Work Text:

The Triwix champions found themselves in the tent, waiting for Bagman to come and tell them what the first task will be.

Viktor Krum was composed, a bit pale but confident. Fleur Delacour pacing, hyping herself up in French under her breath. Cedric Diggory was sitting, staring at the entrance.

The fourth champion, the unwanted underaged tag-along, Harry Potter stands opposite the Durmstrang champion staring down at his feet.

They all jump to their feet when the excitable Bagman stepped in carrying a bag. "Champions! It's almost time, so I will reveal the first task you willbe facing..." He pauses for dramatic effect. "Mother dragons!"

The three older students don't change, they don't seem surprised, but the youngest lets out a gasp, he's fallen to his knees when the other three whip around to look at him, breathes coming in gasps and tears welling in his eyes. "What? How- how am I supposed to fight a dragon?" Comes in his breathy voice.

"Ah-ha! I was hoping for a good reaction!" Bagman calls out, opening the bag towards the Beauxbatons champion. "What's inside this bag will determine what dragons you'll face! Ladies pick first!"

Fleur steels herself and pulls out a small green dragon figure with a 2 on it. "Welsh green!"

Cedric doesn't stop staring at Harry until he steps up and pulls out an ugly gray dragon with a 1. "Swedish Short-snout!"

Viktor looks away only long enough to pull the bright red dragon with a 3. "Chinese Fireball!"

Bagman has to carry the bag over to where Harry is still collapsed on the floor and set the horn covered dragon with a 4 on the ground in front of him. "And finally, a Hungarian Horntail for you!"

Bagman is still grinning as he leaves after giving final instructions.

Viktor glares across at Cedric "He did not know? Yoo did not tell him?"

"I thought he was told! His best friend was the one who told me!" Cedric snaps back, voice surprised. Harry makes a wounded sound and closes his eyes, digging his palms into his eyelids.

"Serves 'eem right! 'E cheated to enter 'e can deel weet' it on 'is own." Fleur snapped, voice hard, turning physically away from him.

"He is a child! Ve are adults. Dere is no way he got in when older students haff not." Viktor snaps, staring at the feench veela, before looking back down at the child with worried eyes.

Cedric leaves the tense tent in silenec after the first cannon.

"Dey resist magic, but deir eyes are a veakness. Aim any spells at deir eyes." Viktor has crouched down in front of the child who is sobbing silently into his knees.

"Do yoo know 'ow to summon spell?" Viktor prompts, nudging the tiny boy.

"No. They teach that later this year." Harry's voice is scratchy, his green eyes look up at Viktor.

Fleur curses in french before spinning around to face the two. "Try leveetating rocks to 'elp yoo 'ide. Yoo can do dat?"

Harry nods. "I know that spell."

The two try to discuss other options until Fleur is called out. Then Viktor shows Harry the wand movements for both the fire-proofing spell and the summoning spell, he gets partway through showing his the disillusionment charm when he's called out. "Stand straight. Yoo can doo vis, and if you cannot you must survive."

Harry doesn't succeed.

Harry succeeds in casting the disillusionment charm, and somewhat succeeds in levitating a rock, but it doesn't matter because the Horntail's fire incinerates the rock and lights him on fire from thirty feet away.

Harry loses consciousness in seconds, he's engulfed in flame and the dragon handlers are already stunning the dragon when the fire dies down. Harry's body is unrecognizable, several onlookers throw up at the sight, the smell has several handlers flinching.
