INTRODUCTION;
Hyuna took a deep breath. The stars glittered in the sky, but the dim lights of the abandoned building she stood in barely let her see them. She thought she was alone—until she heard footsteps. Familiar, chilling footsteps that sent a cold shiver through her whole body.
Years ago, this sound would have filled her with a sense of safety. Now, it only brought back memories of hatred and disgust. Luka stepped out of the shadows with that familiar, merciless smile that turned her emotions inside out. He hadn’t changed. The same gaze, the same arrogance, the same dangerous allure. Hyuna steeled herself, forcing her eyes to meet his without flinching.
Luka took another step closer, and Hyuna involuntarily took one back. There was a spark in his eyes; something dangerous, frightening, but also irresistibly magnetic.
“Years have passed, Hyuna,” Luka said, with a hint of mockery in his voice. “But you still carry that same fire in your eyes.”
Hyuna clenched her teeth, her fists tightening without her realizing it. “Fire?” she whispered coldly. “That fire was born from the ashes of the world you burned, Luka.”
A satisfied smile played on Luka’s lips as he tilted his head slightly. He moved closer until there was barely any space between them. Luka’s face was so close to hers that she could feel his breath.
“I love it when you resist me, Hyuna,” he murmured with obsessive affection. "But we both know… no matter where you go, I will never give you up."
Hyuna fought to suppress her anger and stepped back. No matter how many years had passed, she hadn’t completely freed herself from the deadly pull Luka held over her. But she had to confront the pain of losing her brother and the twisted affection in Luka’s gaze. With a bitter glint in her eyes, she met his gaze. "Not giving me up only chains you to your own weakness, Luka," she said. "You no longer have a victim, just someone who wants to destroy you."
Luka’s smile sharpened as he slightly pursed his lips. “Destroy me?” he taunted. “Let’s see if you even have the strength for that, Hyuna. My bond with you only grows stronger. And no matter what you do, you’ll come back to me.”
Hyuna took another deep breath, forcing herself to ignore Luka’s manipulative words as she turned her back on him. Yet, deep down, a voice told her that escaping the ashes of their past wouldn’t be so easy. Luka’s hell would not be something she could leave without a fight. She had a plan, but this confrontation had reminded her that it would be much harder than she’d thought.
