Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Not everyone is blessed with a simple life for their family in a cozy house on a hill. Some leave their hard-working families in hopes of living lavishly only to fall into a life of crime. Some lose everything they ever loved and end up wandering without a place that feels like home at all.

Ace never meant to become a pirate, he didn’t dream of growing up and spending his days sinking ships, stealing, and killing. He dreamt of a big house, a beautiful partner, and a simple life. However, he wasn’t blessed with that. Instead, Ace was thrown into a life of poverty in a family who fought tooth and nail to stay alive, a family who didn’t care what Ace did or didn’t do. He had left to carve a better life for himself. Things didn’t go as planned and in a desperate attempt to get coin fast, he joined a pirate crew, it required nothing but wit and that was all the man had.

Felix used to have everything he ever wanted, a wife, a child a cave in the nicest city the ocean had to offer. He had a job he enjoyed and hobbies he loved. However, he wasn’t blessed to get to keep it. As merfolk, the city's biggest problem is killer whales. They don’t strike often but when they do it’s never good. Felix had seen his wife and daughter off for the day only to be told by his best friend they were both dead within a few hours. He used to have everything and now nothing but pain awaits him at home.

The world has a strange way of putting you where you belong. They learn this the hard way.
