"Will you four hurry up? If I'm going to drive all of you to my favorite fireworks spot, we need to leave right now!" Kitt is impatient, and it shows in the tone of his voice. The car is waiting inside the semi, ready to go at any time.
New Year's Eve has arrived. The four humans and AI eagerly await this time of year.
Leaving the old behind and entering the new.
However, at the moment, all the humans in Kitt's life are arguing over what to wear and what food and drink to bring.
"Does it matter?" Kitt adds, his tires begin to spin: "Come on, let's go."
Michael Knight, dressed in his typical jeans, open-button shirt, black shoes, and customary black leather jacket, glances at the awaiting automobile and laughs, "Hey, Pal. Usually, that is my line. Okay, I'm ready; I have the chips and dip. Trunk, please." The trunk quickly opens, and Michael places two extra large bags of chips and enough dip to feed a sizable army inside. He opens the driver's door and settles into his seat.
The trunk remains open for the others to deposit their belongings within it.
Kitt thinks *One down, three to go*. He's almost shouting at the three remaining individuals, "Devon, Bonnie, RC, get a move on!"
Bonnie is the next to show, dressed casually in slacks, a blouse, and sneakers. She has a cardigan draped over her left arm and a bag with a long strap falling from the top of her right shoulder. Inside, the bag contains four glasses, napkins, and enough paper plates for a large group. Bonnie stares at the impatient automobile, "Kitt, I see you picked up a couple of Michael's bad habits." She places the bag into the trunk, proceeds to the passenger side, and sits in the rear seat directly behind Michael.
Glancing at his technician with his optics, Kitt chides, "Bonnie, Michael, and I have been together for ten years. Did you expect me not to develop one or two negative habits?"
Bonnie sighed and decided not to answer the question.
Kitt turns his attention to the remaining two men and asks, "Devon, RC, are you both finally ready?" The Trans AM's wheels are spinning so fast that they emit smoke and begin to spread inside the trailer.
"Wow, Buddy. Stop it! "We still have to breathe in here." Michael begins to cough and embellishes his coughs to make a point.
Kitt stops spinning his wheels and engages the semi's air filter; he knows Michael is accurate but remains antsy.
Devon is the third to arrive, dressed in his favorite gray suit. The Brit looks as prim and proper as ever. He is carrying two bottles of champagne, each with a bow wrapped around the neck of the bottles. He stares at the automobile with a slight smile, "We can't ring in the New Year without champagne, Kitt."
"Really, Devon? I am aware that humans like to drink alcohol on this occasion. It's a good thing I'm here," Kitt says, barely controlling his annoyance.
RC is the last to arrive. It's fortunate to be a minute behind Devon. The semi-driver is dressed in jeans, a t-shirt, sneakers, and a Chicago Cubs jacket that he received as a present after recovering from a semi-truck hijacking. He is carrying an extra-large blanket and an extra-large bucket of chicken. The aroma of chicken makes everyone hungry except Kitt. "Boss, the semi is secure. I'm ready to go." When RC placed the two objects in the trunk, it immediately closed. He enters the passenger seat and sits next to Bonnie in the back.
Devon, holding bottles, sits in the front passenger seat and looks directly at the voice modulator. "Where are we going this year, Kitt? The usual spot?" The location that Devon asks about is the hills outside Los Angeles, around the Hollywood sign.
Both doors are secured, and the AI responds, "No, Devon. I'm thinking about somewhere else." Kitt instantly turns on the AUTO indicator, "Michael, if you don't mind, I'm driving tonight." Kitt's voice has finally calmed. It happens when it's just Michael and himself.
Michael isn't startled because he knows his best friend is up to something. Kitt was caught off-guard a few times when Michael approached him over the last two days. Amused, he takes his hands off the steering wheel, "All yours, Pal."
Checking his internal chronometer, Kitt backs out of the semi, spins around, activates the passive restraint system, and lights up his SPM button, "We're running late, but we should make it. Hold on." Kitt drives on the quieter side roads and reaches the maximum speed of three hundred miles per hour.
Thirty minutes later, they arrive at their destination.
Aside from themselves, no one is in sight. The four humans exit the automobile and glance about. "Are you sure this is the spot, Buddy?" Michael asks as he retrieves the food and other goods from the trunk.
"Yes, Michael. It's the place. We have twenty minutes till the show starts." Kitt's headlights are still on, allowing his friends to set up their New Year's Eve picnic.
The four of them swiftly spread the blanket and arranged the chicken, chips, dip, and champagne in the center, along with the glasses, plates, and napkins. While they dine, Kitt dims his lights so that the stars shine brightly. It's a lovely winter evening, not too cold. Michael pulls Bonnie's cardigan over her shoulders and kisses her cheek.
Until one minute before midnight, the five discuss all that has transpired in the previous year. Devon opens the champagne and pours a glass for Michael, Bonnie, RC, and himself. He raises his glass to toast the car: "Kitt, obviously you don't drink, but here's to you anyway."
Humans holding champagne, with Kitt closest to Michael, all five count: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Happy New Year! Kitt electronically illuminates an indicator in his interior, and massive fireworks appear in the sky. For twenty minutes, the sky fills with pyrotechnics of rainbow colors. The four humans stare up at the sky with joy while Kitt, happy with everyone's happiness, watches the fireworks through his optics. He, too, appreciates the gorgeous hues.
Michael enters Kitt's cabin before the presentation ends, saying, "So this is what you had in mind; I know this is OUR favorite spot. You ARE the best, Buddy." He pats the dash gently, saying, "Happy New Year, Kitt."
Kitt answers to Michael's soft touch with a warm, "Happy New Year, Michael."
