Chapter Text
“I’m sorry but that’s it?” Lucy softly, but teasingly asked Tim.
“Well, if you’re going to criticize me” but before he could finish his sentence Lucy reached out and covered his cheeks with her warm hands lightly brushing her lips with his. After what she perceives as Tim’s initial shock, he sinks into this kiss. It’s soft and gentle, exactly the opposite of how she imagined any kiss with him would be. But there’s something else she has never felt before.
There’s electricity. A buzz flowing through her veins from this light, chaste kiss. She never felt anything like this with her past boyfriends. As these thoughts occupied her mind, she felt Tim deepen the kiss and lower his hand from her shoulder down to the small of her back where his hand hesitantly hovered. The heat radiating from his touch down her body was enough for an audible moan to escape her mouth. With that, Tim’s hand moved to her hip where he started to tighten his grip.
Right as Lucy started to move her hands, she remembered where she was, what she was doing, and WHO she was kissing. With that, she immediately pulled off him and put a few feet of space between them.
“Well, uh I would say we’re good at that” she smirked. Her heart was racing. What was happening? What was she feeling right now?
“Uh yeah. Yeah.” Tim barely scrounged out those words. He looked more panicked than she felt. What was he thinking?
“Okay well now that we’ve got that settled, let’s figure out the rest of our backstory” Lucy says, motioning to the couch where they were sitting previously before all of that occurred. She needs to change the topic and focus on this op right now. Just the op. Not how rough, but soft Tim’s hands felt on her skin.
“Yeah” Tim glanced around as if trying to figure out where he is. Lucy notices but doesn’t say anything. He continues to open his mouth as if there is something else he wants to say, but words seem to fail him.
“We’ve got the most important parts down, but I think we should come up with some key moments in Jake and Sava’s relationship, just in case.” As Lucy finished her sentence, she felt her phone ringing. Tamara was calling her. “Hey Tam, what’s up.” She took this opportunity to stand up and walk to the kitchen where she could talk to Tamara without still feeling the heat radiating off of Tim.
“Hey, I was studying late at the library, and was planning on taking the bus home, but the bus broke down and now I’m stranded here and was wondering if you could come pick me up?” asked Tamara. Praising whatever higher power she might believe in, she quickly agrees and is grateful at the opportunity to get some space from Tim.
“Yeah of course I will. I’m leaving now and will be there in 15 minutes.” Lucy hangs up and starts collecting her keys and shoes when she remembers that Tim is there.
“Is everything alright with Tamara?” Tim questions, looking concerned. He looks concerned and it makes her smile. Even though Tamara is her puppy, he has always had a huge soft spot for her.
“Yeah, the bus broke down again, and her car is now police property, so I’m going to go pick her up. We can work on the rest of our backstory tomorrow at the station” she says. After her shoes are on and her keys and phone are in her hand, she checks through her apartment to make sure she hasn’t missed anything. She stops when her eyes land on Tim. He has an expression on her face that she can’t quite read. If she wasn’t so consumed with her thoughts, she would try to figure out that mystery too.
He glances up and their eyes lock for the first time since before they kissed. “Okay yeah I’ll see you tomorrow” Tim says quietly. She really wishes she could read his mind. Figure out what is behind his conflicted expression.
They both walk out quietly, side by side, from her apartment to her car. As she opens her car door and turns around to say goodbye to Tim, she stops when she sees his face in the moonlight. She has seen his face a million times and knows he’s conventionally attractive. Some would even say handsome.
But that isn’t what caused her to stop speaking. It was the reflection of the full moon in his eyes that made her unable to compose any words. It didn’t help that the way he looked at her was soft, almost adoring. Maybe the shadows were making her think that because there is no way Tim Bradford, her former TO, would look at her that way.
She was pulled out of her thoughts when Tim lightly brushed his hand against her forearm while whispering “Goodnight Lucy”.
The heat was back. And she wanted more.
“Goodnight Tim.”
