Work Text:
“Marx? Mark please,” Sadie pleaded, her eyes burning from the tears she had held back.
It was clear he was gone. Her world seemed to crash down around her and suddenly, she found herself longing for familiar arms. She mumbled something like his name, and immediately, Sam was at her side. Only then did Sadie allow herself to crumble too. Because she knew Sam would catch her.
He held her. And she sobbed and he did too, and in that blurry haze, that was all there was.
An hour later, Sam drove her home, but she refused to walk inside without Marx.
“No.”
“Sadie, please, you need to sleep,”
“I said no Sam. I can’t be in there alone. I- I don’t know what I might do.”
Sam said nothing, but the car started up again.
