ID Gaiden: The Secret Links

Summary:

The Inaba's Devils has done a lot for Inaba, and one has to wonder; What do they do on the side? What other missions do they go on? Let us take a look inside...

Or: DMC has Secret Missions, Persona has Social Links, let's smash them together and see what happens!

*Side Stories based on Inaba Devils. Read that first before this for context. Or don't, I don't mind!*

Chapter 1: SM-01 Strength: Come On and Slam!

Summary:

Defeat the demons at their own game!

Notes:

So for those wonder what this is, It's basically my take on the final rank (or at least an important moment) of/in certain social links, and the Secret Missions of DMC. I was planning on doing this after I finished ID, but I was stuck writing CH 29, and I decided to take half a day to write something else, which lead to this story being done by the end of yesterday. Mostly.

On a separate note, I'm probably going to keep the same format for the Beginning/End Notes as in ID; Beginning notes are for comments/concerns I want to bring up, while End Notes talk about the writing process, other notes and possibly rants about the chapter and other shit (Foreshadowing, this is not).

Anyways, enjoy this "Secret Chapter" (Perhaps I can call them Gaidens?) and see ya in the end notes!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

September 18th, 2011, Soccer Field, Outskirts of Inaba

“Go, Daisuke, Go!” The chants echoed across the grassy field as the boy in question tore it up with the ball rolling in front of his feet. The Yasogami Geta, also known as the Soccer team of the school, were playing against a team from a town over, and the stake’s couldn’t be any higher. What were those stakes? The winner would get to go to Tokyo and face off against teams from all around Japan; a prestigious honour to be sure. From the coaches bench, Yu could see how ferociously the other team manoeuvred in their attempts to steal the ball from Daisuke, but he was just as ferocious in controlling the ball, his way his resolve was showing through could only be described as effortless.

‘It’s a funny thing calling it effortless…’ Yu thought to himself as one of the opposing players tried to sneak up on Daisuke from his side only for one of their own, Takayuki, to dive in and push him away from their headman. ‘He always half-assed everything because he hated losing, and it was only because we got him and his ex in a room together, and the two of them talked their feelings out, though I’m quite surprised that she has a girlfriend now. Either way, he’s kicking ass on the field, though I don’t know how much of that was me, and how much of that was simply egging the team to help him…’

“Don’t put yourself down too much, Yu-kun. You’ve done quite a lot for this team.” Kondo-sensei broke him out of his thoughts with a whisper from his place on the bench beside him. He slightly turned his head to the teacher, though his eyes were on the game; They were so close to breaking the damn tie.

“Sensei… I don’t think I’ve done much for this team. Between school and devil hunting, I haven’t exactly hung out with you guys alot. Like, you say I helped them, but there’s not much proof to say that I did..”

“But you did, Yu-kun. It’s not quantity, but quality that matters, and given how you’ve helped everyone on both teams, it definitely shows. From Kou and his family, to Joji and his girlfriend issues, to Tak and his anger, you’ve definitely helped all of us. Hell, you forced me to stop drinking, something my wife is definitely thankful for.” Yu remembered the meal she brought to the Dojima house a week ago, and he smiled at the memory, just as Daisuke launched the ball right past the defenders and through the goalie’s hand, just as the clock ticked zero. “And that’s another thing you’ve helped the team accomplish. Well, let’s go and greet our victors.” Kondo cheekily patted him on the shoulder before using him as a cane to get up, at which point Yu cheekily helped him out of the box via hooking his legs. Once the two were outside, they could see Daisuke and the rest of the team celebrating alongside the ID, who chose to join him in supporting the team in the audience.

“Yo, you guys were sick!” Yosuke patted them on the back, and they accepted the praise in spite of the boy’s reputation.

“You were amazing, Daisuke-kun!” Yukiko praised them as well, Chie clinging around her arm while nodding her head as well.

“You rock, Senpais!” Kanji screamed loudly, before getting an elbow to the face courtesy of Teddie. As Yu and Kondo-sensei approached the group, Daisuke saw them, and calmed everyone down.

“Thanks for the compliment, Kanji-kun, but honestly, this was a team effort, both from us…” He then pointed to the two of them. “...and our sensei’s. Can we get a cheer for the two of ‘em?!” And in turn, the field roared once more with praise.

“You’re awesome, Yu-senpai!” Rise cheered right besides Nami, who gave a slight smile herself.

“We couldn’t have done this without you, Yu-sensei!” Daisuke roared out, a far cry from his usually calm demeanour.

¡Eres un buen entrenador, Neró! ” A moustachioed voice called out from the stands, and everyone turned their heads to face the new voice. The voice was owned by a latino man in his 40’s, with a shaggy undercut, and a large cloth poncho covering a white vest and black jeans. His outfit was finished with a pair of red boots and a red crystalline pendant, but the most notable thing about him was the large, glorious moustache that rested on his upper lip. To most people, this man would have been considered… a weirdo, but to Yu Nero Narukami, he was-

“Uncle Nino? What are you doing here?” Yu untangled himself from the rest of the team to greet the gentleman, giving him a strong hand slap and hug before pulling away, a smile plastered on his face. “I didn’t expect you to be here!”

“Neither did I, little amigo , but I got a job to hunt a demon here in Japan, took the flight over, ANNIHILATED his ass, and found myself outside of the field when I was done. I saw some people playing football-” He then paused to point a finger at the group. “And while I’m here, it’s called football, not soccer, I don’t care if it’s soccer in Japan, it’s football in the rest of the world, and I WILL kill you over the difference!” He then took a calming breath before continuing. “Back to where I was, I saw some people playing football and snuck in through the back. There was some lady lounging about near the front, but she was drunk, and so I snuck in.” Yu turned to the rest of the team, who looked at Nino with a fair bit of confusion, before instantly realising the problem.

“SHIT! I forgot you don’t speak Japanese! Alright, here’s what he said…” Yu quickly translated what he said, which earned a groan from Kondo-Sensei about Kashiwagi’s behaviour, before Yosuke stepped in.

“Uh… Nino-san, is that your name?” Yu opened his mouth to explain, though Nino spoke first.

“I will admit that my knowledge of Japonés comes solely from Anime, so please excuse my lack of comprensión. But to answer your question…” He then pointed to himself to emphasize his next point. “My name is Dantes Fernández Alighieri del Pachuca, Also known as-”

He quickly looked around the area, before switching attention back to Yu. “Anyways, it looks like you’re almost finished here, Chico ; How about we find something to eat and catch up? I’m not usually for noodles, but I’ve been told by your Madre that there is a-”

BGM: No Redemption (No Redemption (Official DmC: Devil May Cry Soundtrack)) (From 0:06)

“DANTEESSSSSS!!!!!” A demonic screech roared from the field, as a crack appeared on the ground before hellish green flames blazed from the hole. In an instant, black tentacles appeared from the ground and waved around in the air.

Everyone was unnerved by the demon, though Nino was surprisingly calm about the whole ordeal as he pulled his hands behind his back. “Oh, I’ve seen enough on the internet to know what’s going to happen next, and I do not consent-!” He whipped his hands forward to reveal nothing in them. “-to… this. Damn it, how did I forget- ” Before he could finish his thought, a tentacle wrapped around his hands, before pulling him away from the group. “ABOUT THE DAMN GUN LAAAWS!!” He screamed in rage for a minute before calming down, just as a demon appeared from the hole from hell.

Its skin was as ink-black as its tentacles, while orange lights made up its eyes and mouth, though the latter seemed to have actual teeth and other features if Yu’s eyes weren’t deceiving him. “Dantes… I have been tracking you down for the last, err… 10 YEARS! Now, I can finally take my revenge, and avenge Lord MUNDIAL!!!” Instantly, the ID went on edge, as everyone pulled out their weapons.

“Mundial… as in Mundus?” Yukiko growled at the demon, who fixed its glare on her.

“No, Mundial! Mundus is the Prince of Darkness, Lord Mundial is the Lord of Demonball!” He then looked right at Yu, and a smile creeped onto its face. “Ah, you carry the scent of Sparda. As per Demonic customs, I declare you my enemy, NOT for Sparda’s betrayal, but for the fact that he defeated Lord Mundial in a game of demonball!” He smirked at the quarter-devil, who smirked at him in return.

“Ah, of course, it seems the Sparda knack for acing everything we try is still going strong! Well, if you really want to be salty about your loss, then I’m more than willing to add even more to the pile.” Yu then looked around the field for any other demons, and shrugged.” Though… where are your teammates? I know demonball is supposed to be a mix of basketball and soccer, but I don’t see any teammates on your side.”

Of course, before either of them could respond, Daisuke and Kou walked in front of Yu and crossed their arms. “Oh, soccer and basketball, you say? We can deal with that.” Daisuke then looked back and nodded at Yu. “You’ve done a lot for us, sensei. Allow us to repay the favour.”

“Agreed! Plus, someone’s gotta stand up for Inaba! If we don’t, then you’ll take over, won’t you?” Kou arrogantly called out, seemingly pleased with himself.

The demon looked at Kou like he grew a second head, before he started to laugh, and laugh, and laugh. He laughed for a solid 5 minutes before responding. “Oh ho ho ho, that’s brilliant! Me taking over this town… Hm, it does feel a lot like Bola de Pie, now that I think about it. Yes… Thank you, boy, for giving me this grand idea! I will take over this town in the name of Lord Mundial!” Immediately, everyone glared at Kou for his stupidity while Daisuke took the opportunity to whack him upside the head in response. Before anyone else could scold the boy, the demon raised a few tentacles from the ground.

“RISE, MY PLAYERS!!!”

Resume BGM

In an instant, inky blots formed on the ground as a legion of 4 demons appeared before them. Each of them were thin, almost skeletal, with broken porcelain skin poorly hiding ink and mechanism beneath them. While they were disproportionate, their most terrifying feature were the large blades and clubs attached in reverse to their right arms, which they were slowly discarding in favour of… gloves. “Oh mortals, shall we play?” The ink demon waved its hands as its demonic spawn winded up before hitting intimidating poses.

Kou was not intimidated at all. Daisuke was slightly intimidated. Everyone else was freaking terrified by the demons, so much so that they broke the laws of physics to escape the area, full-on flash-stepping away from the field, leaving only Kou, Daisuke, Nami, and the ID to face the horde. Kou was about to open his mouth when Yu placed a hand on his shoulder. “Kou… you’re an idiot, but I can’t say I don’t see you as anything less than a friend. You and Daisuke have done so much for Yasogami, and it’s high time I got a chance to do something for you. Some of us would argue that what I’m doing is fixing your mistakes-”

“LIKE ME!” Nino screamed, only for a summoned sword to barely miss his legs. “¡Mierda!”

“Like I was saying…” Yu growled out before continuing. “Some would argue that I’m fixing your mistakes, but I would argue that I’m just helping a friend out. Now can the both of you get off the field? I’ve a feeling we’re gonna be messing up this field really hard, and I do not want to see you anywhere near it. Ok?” The two of them nodded dumbly before walking away, alongside Nami, right towards the stands. As they sat down, Yu looked towards his team and considered his options.

BGM” Reasoning (Persona 4 OST)

‘We’ll need speed and dexterity to score against the demons, but also defense, just in case.’ Yu thought as he looked to his team, before pointing at the members he would be using. “Chie, your legwork is amazing, I’m putting you at the front on offense. Yosuke, you’re fast, you’re going to be the midfielder, working wherever needed. Kanji, you’ve got a big shield, you’re going to defend the goal.”

“Er… not that I don’t want to criticise your judgement, but this is just a game of soccer/basketball, right? Why do you make it sound like we need our weapons?” Yosuke shrugged as he said that, to which Yu smirked in response.

“I’d explain a bit more, but for now I’ll say it’s closer to how we fight demons over a game of basketball or soccer.” He then turned to Kanji, who had pulled out a suspicious looking bag from nowhere.”Kanji-kun, would you happen to have some sort of jersey inside that bag?” And all he needed to know was answered by a knowing grin from the boy. “Alllrighty then. Let’s get changed you three!” They blazed a path to the changerooms where Kanji threw Chie a small package before the group split to enter their specific changerooms.

BGM: Gimme Deathrace (No Redemption (Official DmC: Devil May Cry Soundtrack))

Not a few minutes later, the group exited the changerooms and reentered the field, now wearing their Yasogami Sports uniform with a new tank-top jersey on top of them, though Chie and Kanji had chosen to replace the uniform jacket with the jersey outright. In any case, they all were coloured a bright yellow, with a rainbow patch on the left shoulder, and various symbols on the back representing the powers Yu got from each of them; a fitting design for the misfit team. He looked towards the demon, who was now sitting in the stands opposite them, while the ground had somehow recovered from it’s portal. “We’re ready, Inky! Now where’s Pinky, Blinky and Clyde?”

The demon laughed at the reference before raising his hand. “Ah, have I forgotten to input a name, or so it goes? Well, I am Monarca Manglar, Servant of Lord Mundial, and I challenge…” He waved his hand towards the team, and Yu responded.

“The Inaba’s Devils!”

“...the Inaba’s Devils to a game of Demonball! The rules are simple: Your goal is to bounce a Pelota right into the portal to my right, your left.” As he said this, two portals appeared on either end of the field, each filled with the same green hellfire that his original portal had. A slim demon appeared on the field carrying a green fuzzy ball-like demon, that was likely the Pelota,  with great difficulty, as it bounced around in her arms with endless energy. “Every time you land a Pelota into the portal, you gain a point, though I am free to give an additional point for style. The team who scores 5 points first wins. Other than that, anything goes!” The team nodded at the information, while Chie stared at the slim demon.

It looked quite a bit like one of those Japanese dolls his father had wanted to buy one time until he saw the balk-worthy prices and chose to ignore it. Looking at Chie, she seemed to recognize the demon instantly, and a gasp from their side of the stands seemed to agree with her. “Is that one of… Sakuya’s servants?” Chie whispered to herself, though Manglar seemed to hear her perfectly as he laughed.

“Ah, so my senses do not deceive me, and the rumours about you living in the human realm are true! Tell me, how did you find yourself bound to humans? Have you made another ill-fitting deal like with one of my servants, oh Konohana Sakuya!” Yu turned back to the stands, where Sakuya was sitting alongside Yukiko in her human form, only to summon a mass of petals that ignited instantly, giving the demon a flaming middle finger. He laughed before pointing at the rest of the team. “If I were to bet on the rest of your team, Child of Sparda, I would say the disappointing one is allied with Jiraiya, and the lughead is allied with the King of the Electric Highway himself. Am I right?” In turn, both of the respective demons appeared besides their humans, at which point Takemikazuchi summoned a massive lighting bolt into his hands for emphasis.

Jiraiya leaned into Yosuke’s side, and Yu joined in to hear the ninja’s “wisdom”. “Be wary, you guys. Manglar is known to be a cheat, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he tried to attack you guys when you win.” Yu nodded back, and the two devils returned back to their wielders, while Chie calmed down Tomoe with a whisper. Yosuke grumbled about the music in the arena, and pulled out his phone.

“Alright, I’m putting something more fitting on the speakers. Thank you Hell, both for the speaker-hacking tool and the track.” Yosuke pressed the button, and the heavy metal was switched out-

BGM: Sneakman (Jet Set Radio OST)

-for some nice funk. Manglar was surprised, but he ignored it as he rested in his seat, summoning a scoreboard with one tentacle while another up to signal the start of the game. Yu nodded his head, and the team went to their assigned positions while he walked up to the centre to face the head demon, while the referee held the Pelota above her head.

“AND BEGIN!”

The two leapt into the air, though only the demon jumped; No one had stopped Yu from revving up the Black Jack before the match, which allowed him to reach the Pelota with a Charged-up High roller first, incidentally knocking the demon, which Yu remembered being called a stygian, away from the ball. He swiftly used the opportunity to charge up the ball with a simple combo, before knocking it towards the goal. “Chie!” Yu called out, and Chie launched herself towards the ball, landing a hit just as 2 Stygians tried to avenge their comrade by attacking her with the clubs they had earlier.

“I see that shit!” Yosuke screamed as he blasted them back with a blast of wind, which also launched Chie towards the Pelota, before using a dash to follow her. As Yu teleported himself to the ground with Wind Weaver, Yosuke and Chie bounced the ball between themselves as they brought it over the portal, before Chie spiked it downwards. A powerful-looking stygian with a chainsaw tried to block her attack, but Yu got to it just in time to Tatsumi-Buster the demon into the ground, earning the team a point.

1-0

“One point, for team ID.” Manglar announced begrudgingly, while the humans on their side cheered for them loudly. Yukiko and Sakuya had created a banner for the team, somehow, while Teddie had switched out his gloves for massive foam “#1” gloves. However, Rise and Nami had gone all out, the former using Himiko to broadcast their commentary on the game as a countermeasure against Manglar’s taunts, something Yu appreciated. Something he would absolutely appreciate as Manglar’s team found their second wind.

Immediately, a Pelota spawned in the middle of the field and a stygian picked it up, while the rest of the team bar Kanji was still at the portal. “Wait, that’s not fair!” Chie cried out, while Yosuke shook his head.

“That demon did say anything goes…” Yosuke grumbled before launching himself towards the demon, only to be tackled out of the sky via the stygian goalie, leaving only Yu and Chie free to help Kanji from the oppression of the stygian. Sadly, Chie was body checked by one of them, and the other forced Yu to dodge away from Kanji with a well-placed attack, allowing their ally to juke around his shield and claim their first goal.

“One point to my team!” Manglar enthusiastically announced, as his team evened the score between them. The only condolence they had was that Chie was close enough to catch the Pelota when it was summoned, and attempted to kick it towards their goal only for a stygian to intercept the launch and return momentum back to their side, while the other demons intercepted the teams attempts to help Kanji. They scored a point when two demons cycled around Kanji, before it happened again, this time earning the team two points for “Style”

1-4

Pause BGM

Surprisingly, the devil had let the team take a few minutes to break before the “final point” and Yu gathered everyone together. “Look, I know things look bad, but we’ve been through worse.”

Chie wasn’t happy about what he said. “Ok, what about them stealing the ball from us? Once they get a point, they just keep oppressing us since a single stygian is enough to get past Kanji!” Chie accused the boy, and he held his hands up to defend himself only for Yosuke to hold a hand up.

“In his defense, we left him alone when we scored the first point, assuming we’d get a chance to return to neutral. In hindsight, I should have expected them to play unfairly, so that’s on me.” Yosuke admitted, calming the boy down.

“So how are we going to get 4 points in a row? There’s no way he’d give us any extra points for style?!” Chie wondered, only for Kanji to gasp.

“Wait, what if… we threw those chainsaw guys into the portal?” Kanji suggested, and Yosuke opened his mouth.

“Yeah, and that would be against… wait, there isn’t any rule against it…” Yosuke realised at the same time as the rest of the team.

“You know, I'd be against the idea, but we are behind, and Jiraiya did mention his lack of honour… So why not fight fire with fire?” Chie noted, only to look at Tomoe harshly. “Oh don’t say that! You definitely know they would do that, and as far as I’m aware, losing would probably be an insult to Lady Sakuya.” That was enough for her right leg to start waving up and down as an approximation for a silent nod, and the team quickly developed their plan. They quickly returned to their positions, and the ball was launched into the air, just as Yosuke pulled up a new track.

BGM: Sneakman (Jet Set Radio Future OST)

While the central Stygian was reaching for the ball, Yu took the opportunity to dash towards the end portal, and the stygian guarding it. Before it could react, Yu grabbed it with his claws before dunking it right through the portal, distracting all of the other stygians and Manglar, who had lost his grip on Nino. “Wow, a surprisingly-vicious plan by Yu Narukami-senpai! What’s your thoughts on it, my lovely co-host?” Rise commentated before pointing her mic towards Nami.

“On one hand, it’s probably not legal, but on the other hand, there aren’t any rules. And if anyone is wondering, no, we don’t know where the portals lead.” Nami answered her co-host’s question before she returned to commentating the game, which Yu ignored in favour of focusing on the ball, which was now solidly in Chie’s hands. Two Stygians tried to attack her only for her to kick the Pelota right towards Yu, who swiftly caught it with his sword before bouncing the demon into the air, across the field, and right into the unguarded portal.

3-4

“Ugh, that was a clever trick, 2 points for Inaba’s Devils.” Manglar growled out, though there was now an anxious edge to his voice. The Pelota appeared beneath Chie, and she pulled off a mid-air splits-kick to launch her foes away before landing beside the ball demon, where she started to dribble it forward like an actual soccer, wait no, football. Sorry Uncle Nino. The stygian from behind tried to smash into her only for Kanji to appear out of nowhere to pick him up, and carry him like an american football towards the portal. As Chie launched the ball into the air and then into the portal, Kanji got a touchdown with the demon, adding a point to their score and killcount, respectively and presumably.

4-4

“T-t-t-Tie game…” Manglar was extremely nervous, as his stake on the town was riding on a single point. If there were 4 stygians on the field, then this would have been an even fight, where each side would do their hardest to control the ball demon. Of course, there was only two of them, and they were exhausted trying to keep up with the 4 motivated devil hunters, which lead to the two of them being picked up and suplexed right into the ID’s portal, nearly launching Kanji and Takemikazuchi into hell until Yosuke and Yu were able to pull him back with their arms. Without any demons on their side, the team had an assured victory, but Yu held his hand up.

“Oh we could simply throw it in, but I got a better idea.” picking up the Pelota from Chie’s hands, he threw it into the air, before he started to juggle it with his feet. It bounced and flipped into the air, sometimes hovering over the lip of the portal, before Yu decided that enough was enough and leapt into the air. The target right in his sight, Yu pulled his leg back and launched the ball with all of his force, causing it to bounce all over the arena, before bouncing right off the lip of the portal, and falling right into the portal, earning the team their final point.

4-5

Stop BGM

Wait, what? Yu looked at the scoreboard and the fat lump of ink holding it, and checked the score once more.

4-5

“Wait, I thought we were the guys on the right? Did something change?” Kanji-kun asked aloud, only for the demon to guffaw loudly.

“Oh, you think I would have let you win, didn’t I? You may have defeated all of my minions almost exactly like how that damnable Dantes defeated my lord, and you may have scored the final point, but I, I control the score, something I just remembered, and I say… I WIN!!! AH HAHAHAHA!!!” He laughed loudly as the rest of the team joined up with them in case they would need to deal with him, though Yu was far more relaxed when he saw the demon’s free tentacle.

“Yo, look at his hand, guys.” Yu calmly whispered, which the devil heard instantly.

“Oh, you think I forgot about Dantes? Well, do not worry, because he is right HE-” He pulled up a tentacle only to find nothing in his grasp. “Here!” he lifted another tentacle, only to find nothing there as well. “Where is he, where is he?” He panicked until mariachi music blasted from the speakers.

BGM: Mariachi Funk (Kobe Mane)

“Here, Pendejo! ” Nino called from above the demon, before leaping off and driving his longsword through greasy, inky flesh on his way down, leaving a massive vertical gouge on his body. Upon reaching the stands, he leapt away before using a chain-like weapon to fly across the arena, as the bleeding Manglar chased after him, only to walk into a wall of shurikens created by a pair of glaives held in his hands. With the devil immobilised, Nino took the opportunity to pull out a wicked looking hammer/axe, before bringing it over his head. “As they say in Japan, Sayonara!” He slammed the weapon down on the demon, ending its miserable life.

Stop BGM

The team had rushed towards Nino as the ink dried up, and started to praise his work only for him to hold up a hand. “Ah-ge-ge-ge, I had nothing to do with this victory..” He then pointed to Yu and his teammates. “ Mi amiguito and his friends were the ones who did everything; I merely cleaned up the trash.” Instantly, the rest of the team hounded on Yu, Yosuke, Chie, and Kanji, praising them for their various feats throughout the game, though Yu was quick to give a few compliments back, namely to Rise and Nami. As for Nino, he cracked his neck and started to walk away, though Yu simply let his team celebrate while he walked towards his honorary uncle.

BGM: A Sky Full of Stars (Persona 4 Golden OST)

“Yo, Compa , you said you wanted to get something to eat, wanna join us in Inaba?” Yu offered the man, only for him to shake his head and crack his back.

Gracias, pero non gracias , Neró . My back is killing me, and I just want to take a nap after that fight. Maybe if I’m still here tomorrow, then I’ll call you up; you still have your phone number, right?” Yu nodded at the man, who smirked as he turned around. “You have to come to my town sometime, eh? My little Mija has wanted to meet you for some time, and mi madre and mi vida have been waiting to see you again. Plus, you’re way too skinny for someone your age!”

Yu laughed at his uncle’s endearment. “That’s just how my metabolism works! I fight demons for one moment, and my lunch is gone the next!” The two laughed in turn, before Nino held his arms out. Yu reciprocated the offer and gave the man a hug, which they held for a moment before Nino pulled back and walked away with a wave. Yu smiled, before turning around to catch up with his friends.

“Oh, one moment! That pendejo had this on his ass when I killed him. I don’t need it, so take it, Chico !” Yu sensed something being tossed at him, and held his hand out to catch a blue gem-no! A Blue Orb Fragment! He inspected the gem before placing it into his pocket, just as uncle Nino got out of his sight via the trees around them.

Walking back to the team, they were all chatting with each other, with a few exceptions in their midst. “Yo, you finished chatting with your uncle?” Yosuke barked out to Yu.

“Yeah, but, where is Chie and Yukiko? I’d swore they’d still be here.” Yu looked around, along with the rest of the team, though Yosuke merely shrugged in response.

“Eh, they’ve been here before, they can find their way back to Inaba.” Yosuke casually said, while Rise bumped past him to speak to Yu.

“So, Yu-senpai, you wanna tell us more about your uncle? Is he actually your uncle?” Rise started to question herself, though Yu nodded at her question.

“He is related to me, but it’s through my grandmother, Eva; to explain any more than that would require us to sit down, and given how low the sun is, I don’t think I’ll have the time today to do so. Maybe tomorrow?” Yu suggested, and the rest of the team nodded in agreement. After a few minutes of faffing about, the group split up, and went their own ways home.

‘Ergh… Oh, I really shouldn’t have brought the Jagermeister to the game, my head’s killing me.’ Noriko Kashiwagi was always as pretty as a picture, though sometimes she had her off-days, like today, or the day before, or the day before that. But that didn’t matter, because she was the absolute pinnacle of beauty in Inaba, and no one could argue otherwise; not that whore idol, nor that white-haired 3rd year, or the Amagi princess. Speaking of Amagi… “That damnable little shit is always doted on by all of the boys, taking every ounce of attention away from me. It’s not fair! I’m the mature woman, she’s just some piece of-”

“Chie, you were amazing out there!” The object of her hate spoke lovingly, and Kashiwagi turned around to find a stupid bush in her face, and Yukiko Amagi standing by a vending machine alongside Chie Satonaka. The latter was not a threat, not with her shitty outfit and shitty vest, but Yukiko was. How the two of them were still friends was beyond her, since she figured that either of them would have hunted down Yu-kun for themselves. Noriko couldn’t have that, but she could… why was Chie getting closer to Yukiko, why were they-

They were kissing. Yukiko Amagi was kissing Chie Satonaka, and Kashiwagi’s face warped into a smile as she hid behind the not-so-stupid bush, an evil idea forming in her head.

Nothing would stop her from claiming “Most Beautiful Woman” in Inaba, no one.

Notes:

So, what do you think?

When I said I wrote this in about half a day, I wasn't lying. Yes, I did have a rather filled-out outline to work with, but this story was a nice way to break the monotony of writing ID, even if it was basically the same format as the main story. Hell, the only reason I didn't finish writing it last night was because I watched a Mario Oddysey Hide-and-seek vid for almost an hour, and it was almost 12 AM when I stopped for the day. Kinda wish I didn't, but that didn't really take up to much time for me, not gonna lie.

Back to the content, I want these stories to fill in the world of ID, especially since I don't feel like I go into enough detail in the main story. From the start, I wanted to make sure I wasn't writing a single story for years on end, so I gave myself a hard limit for chapter numbers, which I am doing surprisingly well at, though this definitely comes at the cost of "Slice of Life" content, like Yu going to school and living his life beyond the big events. Then again, I don't want to narrate EVERYTHING that happens to Yu in Inaba. There may be people that like that sort of content, but I feel like it would only be fun if YOU, the reader/player, were the one playing it, something the written medium can't do as well as video games.

Then again, Steal the Truth, Reach Out For Your Heart by Chrising exists, where Nanako is a part of the Phantom Thieves, and it has rocking a decent following from an outsiders glance, so maybe people would like that sort of content.

Either way, I don't want to write a single story for years on end, which is why I'm doing this; ID covers the big-ish story beats of the story, while this covers the side missions of the cast. While I am definitely doing the non-party social links here, mostly because I feel like they can be very different, I'm not so sure about the rest of the cast, though I might consider it.

Speaking of the main cast, I'm not a big fan of how Ultimate Personas are handled in P4/P5. In P3, linking them to the main story allows the characters to have a permanent marker on their development, one that carries forward into canon spin-offs (Like P4A, which is why I'm waiting for a p5A, give us aged-up Yu, Atlus!) However, the Ultimate Personas require Social Link completion in P4 and P5, which means that the protagonist is effectively the catalyst for the characters growth to a greater extent, AND they don't stay in any of the spinoffs. I can excuse the greater influence the protag has on the character's growth, but the lack of Ultimate Personas in the Spinoffs imply that the characters have somehow rollbacked on their development in the main game, or even never had them at all, which in turn implies that they never had that grouth. I mean, I could probably go on and on about the consequences of tying Ultimate Personas and character growth to :"Optional" content, but that's not the point of this, isn't it?

How about I focus on something else? OH, Donte! I've a soft spot for the reboot, even if I expect quite a few people to hate it for the story/how Reboot Dante works, even if DMC5 exists and is probably the reason why Dragon's Dogma 2 was even developed in the first place. I wanted to integrate him into this universe, and I came up with an idea when I factored in the El Donte memes into the idea. A little bit of thinking later, and I got a concept. I'm a bit vague about his origins here, but I hope that what you see now is interesting. I do have plans to go into more detail about him, but that will have to wait until I finish the other chapters about this Universe's version of DMC (Spoilers!). As for when that may come out... Imma pull a meme from the Warframe community, and say Soon(tm).

Anyways, I feel like I've covered all I wanted to here, so I will leave you be.

May Writer's Block be never in your way.
