Chapter 1: in the snow

Chapter Text

The white speckles fell from the sky, plating the ground with a glistening white snow. The cold piercing the skin of any that dare walk out into the cold, snowy night. The thick blankets of snow falling to the ground, shrouding any view of the ground. The fluffy soft snow, gently falling on the cold corpse that lay beneath the blanket of snow, eyelashes frosted over in cold, thick snow. Youve been laying there pondering and looking at the grey tinted sky, snow falling gracefully onto your face. Your cold, pace skin is growing colder by the moment, yet you don't wanna leave. It's comfortable. The numbness and feeling of being devoid of all emotion and feeling, the temperature that drops every moment that you lay in the thick blanket of snow, almost cradling you like a bed. At this rate your hair has been sticking together with clumps of snow and ice forming. The snow creeped into every crevice in the clothing you were wearing. The cold was a comfort in your daily, dreary life. The warmth, yet stark contrast of the cold. The cigarette that lay in your mouth, warming your face. The cold on your skin and heat in your cheeks, the smoke that rises from the old dying out cigarette and the feeling of bourbon that lay in your stomach was a euphoric feeling, one of artificial calmness and enjoyment was a familiar friend. The fresh red lines in your arms that stung with any movement whether it be the snow landing on it or your breathing. It was all slightly and familiarly numb. The lighter in one hand and the cold glass bottle in the other wasn't unusual, but the cold chill of the air was. It was an amenity that you took for granted, one you thoroughly enjoyed and yet one you didn't get often. It takes time to fully realize that the cold emptiness inside your heart wasn't one that needed to be filled, it was one you could exploit. It was mended by that of any feeling of warmth, whether that be a drink, cigarette or even laying lifeless in the snow. It was actually comedic to you. Silently laughing to yourself. Every movement hurt. Yet it was a nice laugh.one well needed but not deserved. You closed your eyes and embraced the cold chill. Drifting off to sleep, the cold snow blanketing your cold form.

When you awoke, you sniffed rubbing your face, only to remember you were blanketed in snow, the hangover you felt was throbbing in your head as you stood up brushing snow off, walking into your apartment building. Beer and cigarettes in hand. As you unlocked your apartment door, you realized it was already unlocked… unsettling. But if someone did break in they couldn't find anything, as your boxes of stuff hasn't arrived. You walked in to find the place the same, nothing out of place other than some towles on the kitchen counter. That was nice of the cleaning crew. You closed your door and set down the stuff, setting your liquor back in its respective cabinet. Walking to the shower, melting snow imprints tracks or water that was soaked up by your socks last night. You got in the shower and got ready for the day. Walking out of the house grabbing a black coat and walking out of the apartment locking it as you left, making sure to slip on your nice shoes. You walked to a place, pulling out a cut out ad from the paper and holding it up to the place to compare, close enough. Walking inside you walk up to the front desk talking to the ass hat who was manning the front desk. You asked about the ad in the paper and he pointed to the help desk to the left of the very colorful 80s water fountain in the middle of the loud, crowded kids entertainment center. Big statues of the animatronics towered over you as you walked to the desk. Talking to the person, you worked out a schedule and they agreed to hire you? Without an interview? You brushed it off, they told you Monday would work. You were to arrive at 18:00 (6:00). You would work the nightshift, caring for the animatronics (specifically sun and moon they said they were the daycare attendants).

Monday rolled around and it was getting colder out and it was affecting you more, sleeping out there was taking a bigger toll on you than expected. You had gotten a cold from sleeping out in the snow and your arm was infected from the bacteria festering. You shrugged it off putting on the uniform that mailed you. It actually fit pretty well, as you packed yourself some food and water and most importantly you little stuffed friend. You packed them all neatly into your bag, pulling on your jacked and putting on your bag and badge. Heading off to your new job. You walked in and a smiley guard who called themself Vanessa met you at the door, giving you the rundown and clocking out of course after handing you a flashlight (torch). You walked through the building looking around for the daycare, and eventually a map bot helped you find the way there. You sniffled and rubbed your eyes walking in. The cold you had was really not too noticeable so hopefully you'll be fine. walking in a breath of chill air mixed with musty and stale oil mixing in your nose, not entirely pleasant or unpleasant. There was a giant statue of the sun person with lots of plants surrounding it with benches spaced in, a bright yellow slide behind the statue seemingly leading into the daycare labeled "slide into FUN!" Caught your eye. You pushed the intensive thought to the side and decided to walk down to an entrance not too far off, shrouded by the mesh that seperated the area you were in to the daycare. Walking down into the area there were some very brightly decorated photo booths, you pause and think back. A long forgotten memory appeared… the look on your face dropped, from one of mild contentment to one of disgust, sadness and anger. You sniffled and rubbed your nose, pulling the sleeves on your jacket down a little to cover scars and fresh wounds that stung like a son of a bitch. Continuing to the giant castle-like doors that led to the daycare you saw an employee door, walking in that door you wound up at the front desk, you could hear music playing in the background as you walked out into the daycare to be suprised by a tall sun? animatronic.
He exclaimed
"Ohhh! A new friend, we can sing and play and paint and even drink fizzy faz till our heads EXPLODE!" His eyes never once left your form, ever watching you.
