Discovery of a White Rose

Summary:

Based on the trilogy 'All Souls' by Deborah Harkness with the TV series 'A Discovery of Witches'.
Weiss is a witch but has long since denied her heritage. During her research one day in Vale University library, she breaks the spell on the very book that is the key to understanding all creatures and is immediately thrust back into the world she had turned her back on: witches, vampires, and demons. However, there is danger in her midst as she becomes hunted by those creatures. Ruby is a centuries old vampire tasked to find that very book, and Weiss is that key. Can a witch and a vampire put aside their differences to achieve a common goal? Or will their world tear them apart?

Hello and welcome.
I am still alive and this plot bunny is begging to be written. So here we go.

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Sapphire blue eye stare aimlessly at the ceiling, her breaths coming out in pants from the physical exertion she had just been through. Her heart was pounding in her chest, causing the blood in her veins to flow quickly throughout her body. She was sure her partner next to her was smiling triumphantly without even looking over at her. She closed her eyes as she felt long cold fingers running up and down her arm, making the hairs rise and her skin tingle with both desire and magic.

Her magic…gods she had never felt so alive nor powerful. For nearly twenty years of her life, she denied herself of her magical heritage. She saw what it had done to her mother and father. Winter tried to teach her with Whitely, told her that her father was weak and allowed himself to be corrupted from a rival coven. Her mother fell into a depression due to her family falling apart. Weiss adamantly refused, claiming she wanted to be normal.

“Weiss…” She opened her eyes and turned to face her partner. The one responsible for her change of heart. She met hypnotic and dark silver eyes that were both filled with love and passion.

“I do not regret this, Ruby. Not at all.” She said as she shifted to her side, running her own warm fingers down tresses of red and black hair. Her partner let out a possessive purr, Weiss noticed how her chest raised with an inhale, knowing that her lover was trying to inhale her scent and ground herself.

“What we did was dangerous. We broke so many rules.” Silver eyes met her own as a response as her hand was grabbed and a light kiss was pressed to her wrist where she knew her pulse was pounding with anticipation.

Weiss smiled and leaned over, pressing a delicate kiss to the lips that had been on her body only moments previously. Breaking away, she says, “To hell with the rules.”

Ruby smiled as she pulled the white-haired witch on top of her. Weiss straddled her waist as her hands found a home on either side, running up and down. She stared up at the bare chest of her perky breasts where temporary red marks had made their home. Her eyes took in every bruise due to their previous love making, knowing that more was coming soon, “I love your bravery.” Ruby muttered, “It is not something I have seen often in centuries. However, the rules of the Congregation are clear. Interspecies cannot mix. I am a vampire. You are a witch. We broke the Covenant.”

Weiss leaned down and pressed a kiss to Ruby’s neck. Ruby let out a gasp as her grip tightened, “Whose fault was that I wonder?” Weiss questioned not worried about that fact at all.

Ruby stopped Weiss’s ministrations, looking Weiss dead in the eye, “I never meant to place you in danger. I was trying to help you. Save you. My weakness has doomed you.”

Weiss kept the stare before breaking it. She sighs and gets off of Ruby and returns to her own side of the bed. She covers herself and sits up, making Ruby to the same. Weiss grabbed Ruby’s cold hand and held it in her own, “You did not make me do anything. I chose this. I chose my own fate. I chose you.”

Ruby nods and leans forward pressing her lips to Weiss’s, “And I am eternally grateful, and I will not make you regret it.”

Weiss was sure she would never regret it, but now that they returned to laying down and just being together, Weiss internally reflected on Ruby’s words. Since she had denied herself of her heritage, she was ignorant of the rules. The Congregation? The Covenant? The nature of the creatures: Daemons, Vampires, even her own species…Witches. She curled into Ruby, allowing the long cold fingers to create patterns on her arms, recalling how her own life had changed with one simple moment- asking for a book.
