Work Text:

Tick, tick.

Eden layed down, warm tears flowing down her face as she watched the broken clock on the wall.

Tick, tick.

As much as Eden wanted to just get up and fix it, she couldn't move.

Especially not with what happened.

"Arei..." Eden mumbled to herself. "She was trying to improve, but Ace--" her voice quivered, the thought of the situation made her want to cry even more. Arei only wanted to be a better person, but her life was cut short before she even got the chance. She just wanted to be better, and knowing she'll never get that chance now made Eden's heart ache.

Tick, tick.

"Eden..." a whispery voice called out the clockmaker's name. Eden quickly stood up, paranoid.

"A-Arei?" She moved back, her entire body shaking.

"No, that's impossible, you're dead...! How are you---"

"Eden..." The voice spoke again. Arei was standing in the corner of the room, staring directly at Eden.

"Why didn't you help me?"

"What? I-I couldn't! I would've if I had the chance too!"

"I helped you with Arturo, and what I got in return is you leaving me to die. How pathetic are you?"

"I'm sorry! I wanted to help, I swear!"

"But you didn't, you weak, pathetic, bitch. You should've been the one to die that day, not me."

"I...I...!

"There's no guarantee that you'll survive this killing game with no one protecting you. Why don't you just give up?"

"You... you're not Arei... are you?"

Eden quickly chucked a pillow at the corner of the room, scooting back and shaking. "Go away!" Eden was shaking, scared from what she just witnessed and heard.

Then, Arei disappeared. Just like that.

Eden couldn't help it, she got on her knees and bawled her eyes out. She didn't want to get out of bed for the rest of the day. She didn't want to do anything. But a small part of her was just happy she got to see Arei again. Even if it was just a hallucination.

"Arei..." she began.

"I miss you."
