Diary Entry #1: What the Hades Is Going On?

Dear Diary (or whatever this is supposed to be):

Well, let's start with the obvious: today has been a total disaster of epic proportions.

The day seemed to be fine, my life the same, for what might be expected of a demigod, and without the occasional anxiety about doomsday prophecies. You know, typical morning stuff.

I had just returned from New Rome to spend Christmas with Mom, Estelle, and Paul. And Annabeth is supposed to come over after Christmas to spend New Year's with us.

I was about to start writing this, as journaling is supposed to be therapeutic

One moment I was thinking about how I should start writing my memoirs, my thoughts, which couldn't be more difficult than writing some books about the gods (from my personal opinion) (1) and the next... Puff ... I disappear faster than... A bad date. And before I could shout "Percy Jackson is too cool for this!", I found myself in the middle of a forest that looked like it was straight out of a postcard for "Travel to Canada! Comically large moose included in the premium package!" Seriously, I almost expected to see a moose in a lumberjack shirt at any moment. Not that I'm complaining, but this was definitely not on my agenda today.

When I finally got up and shook off the snow (and tried to ignore the fact that I was a little wet, thank you so much, Dad), I took a quick look around. It was like a winter wonderland. Snow-capped mountains rose in the distance, and the air smelled of pine and confusion to me. But here's the kicker: I was alone. As if he were "lost in the snow without hot chocolate". I almost preferred to face a giant crab or any other monster on Long Island.

I looked at the new watch Tyson gave me, which, somehow, still worked despite the cosmic madness that had taken me away. I realized that it had only been a few minutes since I last saw my entire family, but now my brain was racing with a million possibilities. Was anyone else thrown here? Was I going to have to find them? And why did he feel like he was in the middle of a boring survival movie where everyone gets eliminated one by one? Ugh.

As I walked through the trees, I tried to find my way around. The thing is, the forest didn't look so much like a well-laid out hiking trail, but rather a place where bears discussed their latest hunting plans. It was not at all reassuring. My instincts kicked in. I knew I had to find out if anyone else was sent here, (which I hope is Canada) before we ended up like (insert here a dramatic moment from a movie)... separated and alone. So I took a deep breath and shouted, "ANNABETH! GROVER! ANYONE WHO CAN HELP ME NOT TO DIE HERE!"

Silence. Well, at least the sound of owls hooting comforted me to know that I wasn't the only one struggling with existential fear in the woods. But I wasn't in the mood to chat with them, so I started walking again, watching for signs of life. As if the universe had heard my silent prayer, I stumbled upon a clearing where the snow gave way to some patches of unusually bright green. There, to my surprise, I didn't find just any demigod, but the blond Superman himself, Jason Grace.

"Percy!" Jason shouted, his trademark blonde hair practically shining against the white background and glasses he's worn for the past two and a half years. "I thought I was the only one!"

And so, suddenly, I had a traveling companion. But we weren't done yet. Oh, no, not while there were still half-breeds, hunters, and Amazons to track. And speaking of Amazons, I could practically feel the gaze of one of them even before I saw some footprints that seemed suspiciously made in a hurry.

We press on, calling out any nearby demigod, Roman or Greek, apparently desperate times call for desperate measures. Along the way, we met other lost souls and also bumped into some local nomadic tribes. And let me tell you, those guys were as aggressive as they were confused and kind of stupid. It turns out that their survival plan involved screaming a lot and waving their spears, as well as their maces (if you can call them spears or mallets, to the branches of trees) as if they were trying to scare away mosquitoes. I can safely say that I was not very willing to provoke them.

So we departed as quickly as possible despite complaints from some members of the group.

We avoided chaos, by running faster than the locals could follow us and after a few minutes or an hour, I saw a silver flash: a flash of Artemis's hunters. We moved in that direction and when we reached them I discovered that their bows were taut.

I was about to speak and ask them not to shoot at us, then I realized that they were fixing their fury on the "savage savages," as I so eloquently referred to our pursuers. Maybe Jason or me should have unleashed a small blizzard to erase our tracks and prevent them from tracking us. They had gathered more allies, a hodgepodge of mostly ugly and rather dirty people who looked like they didn't know what a shower is.

Anyway, Jason and me rushed to intervene; After all, teamwork makes dreams work.

Finally, after more screaming (both from us and the tribe) and breaking their weapons we realized that they were deadly, which I appreciate, I don't like to kill non-monsters... or evil non-gods, but it's something I've had to learn to live as demigod.

But then they fled in a hurry when I manipulated the water in the snow to turn it into an ice sword.

I guess wherever we are, there's no Mist and they're scared to see some "magic" I did. That gives me a bad feeling because I don't think we're in Canada, I hope we find Frank and he tells me I'm wrong.

Now, as I sit here in the middle of a half-made peace treaty (ah, the joys of diplomacy!), among the Romans, huntresses, Amazons, and Greeks in our group, while we stand around a campfire because night has come, I can't help but laugh at the absurdity of it all. I guess it's just another day in the life of a demigod. All I want is to go home and figure out how to avoid being transported to who knows where in the future.

Well, let's hope tomorrow's adventure includes fewer angry tribes and maybe a good old-fashioned breakfast. Until next time, Diary.

Yours sarcastically,

Percy Jackson
