Blood and Tears

Summary:

Synopsis: After having a secret love affair, Cole Cassidy was knocked up by his commander, Gabriel Reyes. He never got the chance to tell Reyes that he was going to be a father after Talon attacked base and Reyes was believed to be KIA. Now after tackling single parenthood and being recalled into action, a familiar presence starts popping up.

Note: Since Overwatch can’t seem to figure out its own Timeline I made my own in this fanfic because I’m not going to figure all of this own and try to untangle all of this. Cole will be 25 at the start, Reyes will be 38, their age gap is 13 years, a year after their daughter’s birth Overwatch gets disbanded and it’s disbanded for a decade Cassidy will be 35, Reyes will be 48. That’s the basics, I’m done with it.

Reyes also isn’t a willing traitor in this fanfic. I won’t say too much but I decided to change that too.

Work Text:

“You know, you aren’t going to be able to hide it for forever. You’re already 13 weeks along.” Angela said, sipping her cup of coffee. “And everyone is already suspicious as to why they haven’t seen you smoking or drinking, you might as well come clean”

Cole let out a deep sigh as he kicked his feet, having perched himself on the examination cot Angela had him laying on for his ultrasound over twenty five minutes ago.

“I just don’t feel ready yet” he huffed. “Every time I try to work up the nerve to tell Reyes, he looks at me with those eyes and I just chicken out.” He rubbed the back of his neck. “And I’m not ready to be taken out the field.” He then looked at Angela “And what if we get in trouble ? There has to be some code against getting your soldiers pregnant when you’re a commander”

“Well you have to come clean at some point. You’re already starting to show.” Angela hummed. “It’s best you just get it over with.”

“Luckily I’ve been able to pass it off as a beer belly, and too much food and all.” Cole said, resting a hand on his tiny swell of a bump. “Moira’s comments on it still cut like a damn knife though.”

“If you break the news, I’m sure we can all figure out how to tell Jack and we can all figure out how not to get you in trouble.” Angela said, sitting her coffee cup next to the journal. “But you just have to tell Reyes first”

“I know I know, I’ll tell him by the end of the day I swear on it.” He said holding his hands up. “Now can I go now or are you gonna keep houndin’ me ?”

“Have you been taking your prenatal vitamins?” Angela asked.

“Every day, like you said.” Cole said, not mentioning that he did indeed might have forgotten to take them this morning.

“And what about your caffeine intake ? Have you cut down ?” Angela asked

“One cup of coffee a day, decaf.” Cole replied, not mentioning that he fact that he might have had two cups today, that definitely weren’t decaf.

“You are a terrible liar Cassidy.” Angela said, shaking her head. “You’re going to need to start shaping up soon, for the sake of you and your baby.”

“I know, I know…” Cole said before staring at the ceiling. “It just feel strange that’s all.”

“Just promise me that you will tell Reyes about your condition by the end of the night, don’t make me have to break the oath just because you’re too scared to tell him.” Angela pleaded.

“Alright, I promise that I’ll tell him !” Cole said before getting off the table. “Can I go now ?”

“You can go now.” Angela nodded, watching as Cole sauntered out of the room.

Cole just hoped that he could work up the nerve to tell him.

-

Cole stared as Reyes ate his dinner, a real treat tonight, roasted chicken and rice. Genji sat next to him, sipping a cup of green tea. Moira was absent for dinner, as she usually was. Cole had opted for the second option, beef stew, since the smell of the chicken had made his stomach turn.

Cole took a deep breath and cleared his throat, which made both Genji and Reyes look up at him.

“Uh, jefe ?” Cole asked, his voice cracking a little. “Can we talk after dinner ? It’s kinda important.”

“I wonder what you screwed up this time” Genji said, in an attempt to make a joke. He was getting better at socializing with the team, but his joke still sounded harsh when coming from a scary cyborg with piercing red eyes.

“I’ll make time after dinner” Reyes said with a huff as he went back to his food. Cole stiffened up and absentmindedly put a hand on his stomach underneath the table. This was it. He was finally going to tell Reyes that he was pregnant. He was going to bite the bullet and tell him.

Cole took small bites of his beef stew, not really having an appetite. It felt as if his stomach was in knots and his heart was going to burst out of his chest.

Would Reyes be pissed off ? Most likely. Would they be able to figure it out ? He didn’t know. Would Reyes even want the baby ?

All of these questions raced through his mind as he started to panic slightly, that he didn’t notice that Reyes had finished his food until he suddenly spoke.

“Walk with me cowboy” Reyes said, in that deep husky voice that Cole couldn’t resist. Cole abandoned the last few swallows of his stew and stood up to follow Reyes out to the hallway.

It was silent for a few minutes, as they continued to walk down the long stretch of hallway until Reyes broke the silence.

“So what do you need to tell me ?” Reyes asked, not even glancing at him. Cole froze.

This was it. He was going to tell him the truth.

“Well I..” he stopped as Reyes stopped in his tracks to look at him. Cole froze in place as Reyes leaned in and pressed a kiss against his neck.

Cole muffled a moan and pushed Reyes away gently, though he was still close.

“What’re you doin’ ?” Cole asked, feeling his face heat up as he gazed into Reyes’ eyes.

“You’ve been eyeing me all night” Reyes huffed, as he leaves back in to nip at Cole’s neck. “Figured you wanting to ‘talk’ was your cover story so you could get me to yourself” he chuckled “Unless I was severely mistaken.”

Cole bit his lip. On one hand, he really needed to tell Reyes that he was pregnant. On the other hand, feeling Reyes’ breath on his neck was enough to make him crumble. He let out a soft whine and wrapped his legs against Reyes’ waist, rutting against him, signaling to take him to his quarters.

Reyes grinned, his hands gripping Cole’s ass, holding him up as they made their way to Reyes’ office.

He’d tell Reyes the news another time.
