Suppose Your Squadron of Soldiers Was Saved by A Teenager from Another World-
GATE- Thus The JSDF Fought There x Suppose A Kid From The Last Dungeon Boonies Moved To A Starter Town
Disclaimer: The characters are not mine. No, really. They’re not.
In the Saderean Empire, on the Falmart continent, there are many villages located near the vast forests of the region, and these villages, varying in sizes, have a lot of issues to sort out. Some of these are rather mundane, like local wildlife eating crops, water streams getting blocked or a random barrow wight attack. (Ok to be clear, barrow wight attacks are not random: this only happens when some local idiot tries to impress his friends by stealing a rare sword from the hidden caves nearby. Yes, Oxford, we’re talking about you. You know EXACTLY what you did.)
But sometimes there are problems that require extraordinary measures to handle. For example, how do you respond when a dragon, a young one to be more precise, appears in the local forest areas and proceeds to attack all travelers in sight? For the village of Oakstream, the solution was really quite simple- call in the soldiers of the Empire and pray for the best. And when that fails, then there is option two: have the JSDF come in and handle it.
And that is where First Lt. Youji Itami and the Third Recon Unit come in.
On orders from the higher ups, the Third Recon Unit were deployed to Oakstream to search for the dragon in question and gather intel so that appropriate measures could be taken: the JSDF was already well aware of how dangerous dragons could be after their initial encounters with the Flame Dragon, so they needed a detailed field analysis of the creature before they could engage it in battle.
However, as the team searched for the dragon, it had other ideas. The main one being to try and ambush them from above and attempt to kill them all.
The current team lineup was Itami, Sgt. Takeo Kurata, SFC. Shino Kuribayashi and SFC. Akira Tomita. The squad, while armed with their Howa Type 64 rifles, had been put at a disadvantage; this particular dragon’s scales were just as sturdy as a Flame Dragon’s and it while it may have been a large target (the size of an elephant), it was still quite fast.
Each of the soldiers took up positions behind trees, carefully studying their winged adversary as it currently was flying over their heads. Itami, eyes narrowed, said to Kurata “Any word from the base yet?”
“They’re sending chopper support right now!” Kurata responded, lowering the transceiver from his ear. “They estimate that they’ll reach our position in about 15 minutes, so we need to hold out until then!”
“Easier said than done,” Shino replied in annoyance. “The damn thing’s faster than a horse up there! It’s a miracle we survived this long!”
“In any case we need to do what we can to draw it away from the village as far as possible!” Itami stated. “Tomita, you and Kuribayashi go over there and try to draw it to your position. Kurata and I will cover you as best we can. If we’re lucky, we can wear it down a bit.”
“Understood!” Tomita grunted. Taking a deep breath, the two soldiers quickly dashed for another patch of trees nearby, the sounds of their assorted equipment catching the attention of the dragon. On instinct, it swooped down from the air, talons raised, ready to grab one of them to deliver a finishing blow.
“Ok, OPEN FIRE!”
Quickly raising their weapons, Itami and Kurata, lining up the target in their weapon’s sights, commenced to do just that and unloaded quick, three round bursts of fire at the dragon, hitting it in the side of the head, just shy of its right eye. It turned and looked at the two, as if it could sense that this prey was not to be taken likely. It then opened its jaw wide, and the two knew all too well what that potentially meant.
“It’s going to launch a fireball at us, isn’t it?”
“Looks like it---take cover!”
The two dived behind another set of trees as a large fireball wizzed past their location, slamming into a nearby boulder. A large explosion sent small pebbles flying everywhere as the dragon roared above them. “Commander, are you ok?” Shino yelled.
“We’re ok! But we better be more careful now!” Itami shouted back. Turning towards Kurata, he said “I’m open to new strategies, you got any?”
“I have a couple of flash bangs; we can use that as a distraction.”
“Good idea, that could buy us a little more time to work out a better plan. If we can bring it down a little lower, maybe we can damage its wings and then—”
“Um excuse me sir. Is this the way to Azami?”
Itami turned around. Standing behind him, smiling nonchalantly, was a young man with brown hair and a plain blue tunic. He had somehow managed to sneak up on him, an experienced soldier, in the middle of a fire fight with a dragon and addressed him casually as if nothing was wrong.
Yeah, something is not right here, Itami realized.
“Hey kid, stay down! You want to get attacked by that monster over there?” Kurata yelled in concern. The young man merely blinked and asked, “What monster?”
“Are you serious? THAT!!”
The young man looked over at the dragon in the sky Kurata was pointing to. “You mean that flying lizard? Are you sure that’s the monster you’re worried about?”
“I AM VERY CERTAIN !!!”
“Kurata, what’s going on over there?” Tomita shouted from his position, keeping an eye on the dragon hovering above them.
“We have a civilian here with us!” Kurata excitedly informed him. “I think he’s a little shell shocked!”
“Wait—where the HELL did he come from?!” Shino yelled out, as she looked and saw the three of them together. Seconds later the dragon made another pass at her from above, forcing her to dive behind another tree.
Observing all this, the young man asked “Hey, are you soldiers? Why are you having so much trouble with a pest like that?”
Itami realized the type of person that he was about to deal with. It was something he had seen a lot of in his favorite manga books, especially early “Dragon Ball” and “Dr. Slump.” So, he acted accordingly.
“It’s a long story, but basically that lizard there is being kind of a pest to the locals,” Itami calmly explained to the stranger as he put his weapon over his shoulder “So we’re kind of trying to remove it from the area. As you can see, it’s being kind of a pain in the butt.”
“Ohh…yeah, my village sometimes has that issue too. The rabbits get really rowdy around this time of year. They can be a real pain if you don’t be careful, a friend of mine almost lost an arm.”
I do not want to know what kind of rabbits he deals with. Knowing our luck, it's probably from Caerbanog!
“Right now, we’re trying to keep it busy as much as possible until more soldiers from my unit can come in and help drive it away.”
“Wait, you’re a soldier? I’m training to be one myself!” the young man beamed with pride as he said this.
“Oh, really? You’re a cadet? Well, I wish you luck. I’d ask more about it but as you can see, we’re still on duty and—”
“I can help!”
“I’m not too sure that you can. It’s a dragon we’re dealing with and—”
“No no, I can do this. My village handles lizards like this all the time!” he insisted.
“Oh? What do you do about them?”
As if he was waiting to answer that question, the young man leapt into action. Literally.
Before Itami could even blink, the young man leapt high into the air, in the direction of the dragon. As it opened its jaws to try to deliver a crushing bite, his body twisted. With a large crack, his left leg smashed into the side of the dragon’s head, delivering such a blow that blood splattered onto the leaves of the trees below them. The dragon roared in pain and swung one of its claws at him, tearing his tunic. In response, the young man spun in a circle, before brining his foot down onto the top of the dragon’s head. The blow sent shockwaves throughout the forest.
Itami, Kurata, Shino and Tomito could only stare up in complete and utter bewilderment. The only other person they knew who could do something so insane was Rory Mercury, the apostle of the goddess Emroy and certified demigoddess. Was this kid another one they were not aware of?
“Am…am I seeing this?” Shino asked Tomita.
“I was going to ask you the same thing!”
The young man soon landed back on the ground, looking no worse for wear aside from the torn tunic. The dragon, however, it landed in a heap behind him, and it was more than likely dead. Soon the rest of the team joined with him, all of them amazed at what transpired.
“Did—did you just kick that dragon in the head?!” Kurata asked in shock.
“Yeah, grandpa Pyrid said that it’s usually the fastest way to take one down. But he could do it much faster than me. He can stop a lizard with just one finger stab. He’s studied pressure points a lot so…”
“Time out, Finger jab? Does he know Hokuto-Shinken?!”
“Probably.” Itami sighed.
“I’m still impressed you didn’t get hurt,” Shino said to him, “it looked like he hit you.”
“Nah it was really slow. I’m ashamed that I let my guard down for a second there, and it tore the shirt that Marie made me.”
Shino looked at the tear in his shirt…and almost developed a nosebleed. There was no doubt, looking at his abs; the kid was RIPPED. She only knew a handful of guys with muscles that well developed.
Tomita, nudging her, said in a very concerned for her well being tone “Don’t ask him to spar.”
Shino nodded. “I know I know. I am SORELY tempted to…”
“Don’t. He might have a girlfriend. There’s no way he is single.”
“God I hope not.”
“Huh?” the young man asked.
Itami, deciding he did not want anything else weird happening, cleared his throat. “That was well done there, uh…what is your name?”
“Oh, my apologies. My name is Lloyd Belladonna! I’m a cadet at Azami Academy!”
“Azami Academy? Is that outside of Falmart?
“Falmart? Never heard of it. Did I run into another continent again?” Lloyd pondered.
Kurata raised an eyebrow as he asked, “This happened before?”
“Maybe we should discuss that some other time,” Itami suggested. “Right now, we need to do something about the body here.”
“Oh, let me take care of that!”
Humming lightly, Lloyd walked over to the corpse of the dragon. Then with one hand, he lifted it high over his shoulder and with almost little effort, he tossed it like a rock.
Well, if the rock was a large, winged reptile that spat fire.
The dragon went far into the sky and into escape velocity as Itami, with a nervous sweat drop, told Kurata “Tell the base to cancel the helicopter support. We won’t be needing them after all.”
In the center of Oakstream, at one of the tables for dining, sat Lloyd. With him currently was Itami, Shino and, joining them in conversation, was one apostle and demigoddess: Rory Mercury.
Rory, sitting a little too closely to Itami, said to Lloyd “I hear someone helped out Itami and his team on a routine mission.”
“I don’t think it was what we call routine,” Itami sighed, “even for us.”
“Oh, it was nothing really, it was just a lizard.” Lloyd blushed.
“That was no mere lizard, I’m telling you.” Shino countered.
“Uh Shino…why are you sitting next to him?” asked Itami.
“No reason.” Shino narrowed her eyes at the commanding officer.
“Don’t pry, Itami. After all, you have a few companions that I’ve permitted to be with us yourself—”
“Ok kid, tell us again what happened before you came to Oakstream. I think Rory should hear this.” Itami did not want to give Lloyd any wrong impressions.
“Yes, you’re right. Well, I was in my room, getting dressed for the day. Then, as I was getting my shirt on this strange doorway opened up inside my wall. I figured it was Chief Alka trying to visit so—”
“Chief Alka you said?” Rory asked, her curiosity stirred.
“Uh yes.”
“I see…continue.” Rory put her hand to her chin as Lloyd continued to tell his tale.
“Anyway, I walked through the doorway, and I found myself in this strange city. I think it was called Sadera. I asked around where was Azami and people kept looking at me funny. They suggested I come here. That’s when I found you fighting that lizard.”
“Hold on. The capital is at least 2 days away from here if you walk.” Shino pointed out.
“Walked? No, I ran here.”
Shino’s eyes widened. “Hold on! You RAN here?”
“It wasn’t too bad. I only had trouble with a couple of bandits.”
“That would explain the reports of a small regiment of Zorzal’s men being found unconscious coming in just now.” Itami mused, looking over the report one of the soldiers from base just delivered.
Rory smiled. “Tell me Lloyd…is the name of your village Kunlun?”
“Yes! You’ve been there?!” Hardly any people ever visited his home village. To think there was someone who knew of it blew his mind.
“Oh yes, I am very aware of it. And I am aware of its leader too.”
“Can we back up a second?” Itami said to Rory, "This is the first I've heard of anyone actually visiting Kunlan."
“Yeah, what the hell is Kunlun?” Shino asked Rory.
“I only heard about it because of my Chinese mythology manga, but it’s supposed to be a place where gods and legendary heroes live.”
“My friends say that a lot. It’s just an ordinary village really, I swear.”
“Lloyd, ordinary villages do not have Treants, man eating fish and demon lords.” Rory stated. Itami and Shino looked at her in shock.
“I’m sorry---DEMON LORDS?”
“Isn’t dealing with Hardy bad enough?” sighed Itami.
“Oh, don’t worry, none of those threats will affect anyone here,” Rory assured them, “we have countermeasures for that.”
“Excuse me, Miss Mercury? How do you know about Kunlun and Chief Alka?”
Rory tapped her finger on the table as she recounted her tale. “It’s a funny story. Many, many years ago, we had a strange gate open in the temple. It wasn’t Emroy’s doing and we weren’t sure if it was Hardy trying to come in and whisk me away…AGAIN…so I decided to investigate. I stepped through and found myself in Kunlun itself. That’s when I met Alka. She was a handful to deal with.”
“If you’re saying this it must have been bad.” Itami reasoned.
“Sadly yes. She’s VERY impulsive.”
“Wait, there is another world like yours?” Shino asked.
“Indeed. In fact, from what I understand it is very much like your world, but something happened in the past to change it.” Rory clarified to her.
“How so?” Lloyd asked.
“I’m sorry Lloyd but I can’t elaborate. Even beings like me have to respect the laws of time, especially with other dimensions. Telling you this may alter events that have yet to pass for you.”
“Oh, I see.” Lloyd sighed. This was potentially a grand tale that he was going to be involved with, like the legendary hero in his novel, but rules were rules.
“I guess this kind of makes sense. Lelei told me that there are people here who originally came from other dimensions that settled down when gates to other worlds opened.” Shino recalled.
“But I thought only gods could open gates. Is Alka a god herself?” Itami asked Lloyd and Rory.
“Not quite.” Lloyd answered.
“Like I said, I can’t tell you too much. But despite her, um, troublesome personality, she is far more powerful than she looks. In fact, I’m pretty sure she’s probably why you’re here.”
Itami blinked. Then, his Anime and Manga senses began tingling. “Oh. OHHHHHH.”
Shino recognized that tone. “She’s that kind of person, huh?”
“Yup. In fact, I wager that she will pop up right about…”
Seconds later, a door comprised of light opened and the voice of a young lady yelling “LLOYD!!” pierced the air as Alka walked out of the portal. Accompanying him was a pink haired girl in a witch’s hat and clothes who looked as if she had to babysit a demon.
“Really? How did you manage to open a portal to another world TWICE in one day?” the young woman said to Alka.
“It’s because I’m a genius!” Alka proclaimed.
“A genius who was trying to peep on Lloyd when he’s changing! No wonder Shoma sent me that warning message!”
“Oh, Alka! Marie! It’s good to see you!” Lloyd waved.
“Thank goodness we found you!” Marie sighed. “I was worried when you went missing from your room. Oh, I’m sorry, did we interrupt something?”
“Believe it or not, we were just talking about you.” Itami replied.
“Hello again…ALKA…”
Alka winced. “Oh no…it WOULD be Rory Mercury.”
“I get the feeling that you did something to upset her a long time ago.” Marie sighed. “My name is Marie. And you are…”
“My name is 1st Lieutenant Youji Itami. This here is Rory Mercury…”
“His soulmate.”
“…and this is Sergeant First Class Shino Kuribayashi, part of my unit. We’re with the Japanese Self Defense Force.”
“JSDF? Wow…that takes me back…” Alka muttered in a low voice to herself.
“What was that?”
“Oh nothing. Anyway, are you ok Lloyd? Your shirt is ripped!”
“Nothing to worry about. I just had a run in with a lizard.” Lloyd assured her.
Marie, who had by now noticed the tear in his clothes and was staring at his exposed abs, said “Let me guess, it was a dragon.”
Nodding to confirm the guess, Shino said “He killed it in two hits. What do you feed him?”
“Now that we established why he is here, and I’m sure it’s because of the drooling loli-grandma who is trying to sit between my sergeant and Lloyd here…”
“Why is she sitting that close to my Lloyd?!”
“…maybe we should shorten this meeting,” Itami said, “because I’m sure the higher ups do not want to know another interdimensional portal is opening up.”
“I agree with you,” Marie said. “And we better do it soon before---”
“WHAT ARE YOU TWO DOING WITH MY LLOYD?!!!”
3 more girls stepped out of the portal, one of them being held back by a tall blonde girl. The girl yelling at Shino and Alka was Selen Hemein, another blonde haired, smaller girl, with a red belt that seemed to be assisting in holding her back. The taller girl trying to rein her in was Phyllo Quinone, a fellow student from the academy (and the 3rd girl that was in love with Lloyd and, like Marie, also a princess). Behind them walked Riho Flavin, looking as if she knew an impending war was about to erupt. (For the record, she may or may not be in love with Lloyd as well. Jury is still out on this one!)
“….hello Master,” Phyllo said to Lloyd. “…we were worried.”
“Yes, we were, that’s not important, now WHO IS THIS WOMAN? And why is she sitting so close to Sir Lloyd? Did she tear his shirt?! No one gets a peek at his magnificent body before I do!!”
“Not if I have any say in it.” Alka growled.
Riho sighed. “Um, if I were you, I’d probably put some distance between Lloyd and yourself. These three are…kinda obsessive.”
“I’m not too worried. I suplexed a monster off a helicopter.” Shino grinned wildly.
“You’ll never let me forget about that, will you?” Itami sighed.
It was at this point that Kurata ran in, a piece of paper in his hands.
“Sir, we just got word from HQ---ZORZAL IS DEAD!!!”
Everyone (apart from the Azami crew) looked at Kurata in shock.
“Zorzal, dead? How?!” Itami asked.
“Well…”
1 HOUR BEFORE
He sat in the throne room of his headquarters, sulking, lost in thought.
Zorzal El Caeser’s campaign against his sister, Princess Pina Co Lada, was going as you would expect.
That is, if you expect to be completely outclassed by his sister’s forces and the JSDF in every possible way.
Before him stood his servant and long-time suffering victim, Tyuule. She had been subtly controlling his actions and decisions, making sure that whatever he did would ultimately lead to his downfall. But today was particularly vexing as he was trying to think of how to ambush Itami and his unit.
“Word is that Itami and his team are helping out a small village called Oakstream a few miles away from the capital,” Zorzal said to her. “Is this true?
“Indeed, it is, your majesty,” Tyuule confirmed. “So perhaps we should send a few spies to monitor them and—”
“No, this is the perfect time to strike!” Zorzal exclaimed. “They will be far away from the resources they rely on so much and they’ll be focused on assisting the village. It’s a good chance to take advantage of their kindness and strike them down…”
I wish the gods would strike YOU down, Tyuule thought.
And that’s when it happened. Before anyone could register a thought, the ceiling above Zorzal crumbled and a large mass dropped directly on top of Zorzal and his throne. When the dust cleared and Tyuule could adjust her eyes, she gasped at what was before her: the corpse of a large dragon, which had seemingly plummeted from the sky at a speed no dragon could achieve on its own. Blood was leaking out from below its body and, most certainly, a human arm was on the floor nearby.
Maybe he survived, I mean he’s so stupid he probably won’t notice he is missing an arm---no wait, his head is over there in the corner. What’s left of it at least.
At a lost for words, Tyuule knew there was one thing she could do at this moment…
“I guess I can finally take Furata up on his offer.”
Smiling a genuine smile she happily exited the throne room, to a life of freedom.
