Chapter Text
August 18, 1988
Six stood there, watching as the way back to his home world slowly closed with Rachel while he held his sleeping son. He looked at the TV, then at his son Adam, who was sleeping soundly, unaware of what had happened to his mother, Lynn, who was dead because of him. He heard the way back home closing, leaving him, Rachel, and his son at the mercy of the humans. "I thought that could have gone better," Rachel said, annoyed. He looked at her, his eye slightly twitching. "How do you think I should handle it?" he asked her. "Well, I thought you could have explained it better, six!" Rachel responded, walking away from him. He continued to stare at the TV, hoping it would reopen again. Maybe Rebekah or Nicolas convinced Gabriel to let them back, but it never opened back up. All he could do was stare at the black screen of the TV. "SIX! Come on! It's not safe here anymore!" Rachel yelled from downstairs. "Coming, Rach!" he yelled back, going downstairs where Rachel was waiting for him.
After hours, they ended up finding a small shack to stay at; it looked like it was about to rain, which was bad. Once they opened the door, they saw it was completely abandoned. There were holes in the roof, causing water to leak through, and they also saw some small creatures running around. "Are we staying here?" Rachel asked. "We have to! We can't stay out here; we'll be spotted," Six explained. Rachel sighed in annoyance. She turned on the light and looked around the shack. There was nothing but boxes filled with pictures, old clothes, shoes, and a bunch of other human belongings. Rachel dug through the boxes, trying to find something nice to steal, such as a nice necklace or a nice ring. "Why did you do that?" he asked her after she found something she liked. "Do what?" she responded, holding something in her arms. "Why did you stand up to him?" he asked again. She turned her head towards him, giving him her attention. "I had to! Nicolas or Rebekah would do nothing, so I had to," she responded. "Anyway, here! A blanket; Adam needs it!" Rachel said, passing it to him. Six quickly grabbed it and wrapped it around Adam; he didn't want his son to become cold.
Six sat down so that he could rest his legs as Rachel looked for more stuff to steal. He looked down, resting his head against the wall, watching Adam. He laughed to himself quietly. Adam was a heavy sleeper, just like him. Adam had blonde hair, just like his mother. He also had blue eyes, just like his current host, his first and only victim. Jude Murray was an orphan and had no parents, no siblings, no one. He was honestly a perfect target; he knew no one would ever miss him. After stalking him for months, he went to the alleyway by the man's workplace and mimicked a cat. Jude walked down the alley to help the poor 'cat', and when the man came close enough, he immediately attacked him, slamming his head with a large hammer and killing him. After a few more minutes to make sure he was dead, he possessed his dead body, completely replacing the orphan man. Anyone wouldn't miss this man. He smiled to himself, happy that he finally got a host and formed. That smile quickly disappeared when he got back to the man's apartment and found out that the man had gotten a human woman named Lynn pregnant. He didn't know the human was engaging in courtship or had fallen in love with her. So he kept up the act of pretending to be Judas Murray to help her raise the human man's child and to turn him into an alternate. He only got halfway done when Gabriel found out he had fathered a child with a human woman.
The next morning, Rachel awakened him by throwing him some clothes. "You better change! We're looking for a house; I'm not staying here and risk getting burned by the water." Rachel said. He just realized she was in her human form; she looked like the same human that she killed. Her skin was dark, but that was normal since there were some dark-skinned humans around here. Her hair was no longer covered; it was actually quite long, reaching past her shoulders. She was wearing green pants, a shirt with a 'Metallica' logo, and her old nun's outfit in a duffle bag. "While you were sleeping, I found an abandoned house; it used to belong to a wealthy family who left it behind." Rachel said. He quickly handed Adam to Rachel, who went outside to check the area and make sure there were no other alternates or humans who were trying to find them and his son. He quickly changed into the clothes Rachel threw at him. Now wearing a shirt with a logo called 'Green Day' and pants, he stuffs his old clothes in a bag that he found. Following Rachel outside, he quickly changed into his human form; his skin was much lighter, his hair was black, and he had gray eyes. Once he stepped out, he saw Adam was awake, but he wasn't crying or screaming; he was staring while Rachel was gently cooing to him. He walked over and saw that his son had some unusual features, such as horns; his skin had black spots on his face; and he also had a tail. "Hello, little Adam!" she gently cooed, and he giggled back a bit, reaching his hand towards her. She smiled a bit, booping him on the nose. "I can't believe you actually made this!" Rachel said, grinning at him. "So, where's the house?" He asked. "Just follow me! It's not that far." She said this, readjusting Adam in her arms. Adam saw him, but instead of fearing him, his son just kept looking at him, not showing fear or whatever humans are supposed to feel about them; he was just full of fascination and wonder, reaching for him with his small hands.
After hours of walking through the woods near Mandela, Rachel had brought him to a house, which was almost in the middle of nowhere, with the nearest neighbor being 40 minutes away. "This is okay," he said, looking at the house. "I also thought so. If we are going to live here, we have to act like a normal human family. Adam needs a normal family," she said. They opened the door, and it was completely empty, without a single sign of life. "There is also another exiled alternate here. I was friends with them before they were exiled from our home world. They should be around here, somewhere." Rachel said, entering the house. Adam looked around the house with his big blue eyes. "Don't worry, my child! This will be your new home!" she said. Six sat down, resting his feet on the coffee table, finally glad that they had a place to stay without getting spotted or burned. Rachel handed him his son back, stretching her arms out and hearing her bones pop. "I'm going to see if there's any food around," Rachel said, walking towards the kitchen.
Six felt something climbing onto his shoulder, which caused him to jump. He looked and saw a huge black cat, like they were the size of a tiger cub, with big yellow eyes. "Ummm..." Six quickly pushed it off of him and held his son away from them to protect him, just in case this thing had any plans to attack. "Rachel! There's a strange cat here; it looks extremely fucking weird!" He yelled, which caused the woman to poke her head out of the kitchen. She looked at him, then at the cat. "Oh! That's just a cat! Don't mind them; they are the alternates of this house and area, since the Torres' family abandoned it!" Rachel said before turning back to the kitchen. "Oh..." He looked at them. Not only was it a lot bigger than a normal cat, they also had two tails. He also just realized that the cat has over two eyes; it has other eyes around their body and much larger teeth. "Hello there, cat." He said, reaching out his hand to it. The cat immediately rubbed up against his hand, purring like a normal cat would. He looked at Rachel, who was grinning at him, then at the cat, who was making eye contact with him. He then looked at his son, who was reaching out towards the cat. "Maybe this won't be bad after all." He sat his son down on the couch with the cat. Cat immediately sniffed his son out of curiosity, while Adam just giggled, clapping his hands. The cat rubbed up against Adam, purring affectionately. "Perhaps Adam is safe here!" He thought to himself.
