Work Text:

Alec stood in front of the mirror, running his fingers through his dark hair. It was a small thing, a single strand of grey nestled among the black, but it stood out like a beacon. He leaned in closer, his heart sinking as he confirmed what he had seen. His first grey hair.

For a moment, he just stared at it, a wave of emotions crashing over him. It was a stark reminder that he was aging, that time was moving forward relentlessly. Unlike Asmodeus and their children, Alec was mortal. He would grow old, and one day, he would be gone. The thought weighed heavily on him, filling him with a sense of melancholy he couldn't shake.

He thought about his children, their laughter, their energy, and their boundless love. Dean, with his intellect and strength; Kira, with her fierce determination and compassionate heart; Percy, with his mischievous grin and adventurous spirit; and Lucerys, with his wide-eyed innocence and unwavering trust. They would grow up, become adults, and face the world. And one day, they would have to do it without him.

The thought of his children losing a parent was almost too much to bear. He had always strived to be there for them, to protect them, to guide them. But he couldn't shield them from the reality of his mortality. He wondered how they would cope, how they would grieve.

Asmodeus. The thought of his husband brought a lump to Alec's throat. They had shared so much, built a life together, raised a family. Asmodeus had been his rock, his partner, his greatest love. The idea of leaving him behind hurt Alec like no other. But he knew that he had to talk about what’s next for him and the kids.

Alec stood in the doorway of their bedroom, watching Asmodeus as he sat by the window, his large black wings folded behind him. The setting sun casts a warm glow over the room, highlighting the ethereal beauty of his husband. Alec took a deep breath, steeling himself for the conversation he dreaded but knew they needed to have.

"Asmodeus," Alec began softly, stepping into the room. "We need to talk."

Asmodeus turned to him, a smile lighting up his face, but it faltered as he saw the serious expression Alec wore. "What is it, love?" he asked, concern etching his features.

Alec crossed the room and sat beside him, taking Asmodeus' hand in his. He looked down at their intertwined fingers, finding it difficult to meet his husband's gaze. "I've been thinking a lot lately," Alec started, his voice shaky. "About the future... about what happens when I'm not here anymore."

Asmodeus' expression darkened, and he pulled his hand away, shaking his head. "No, Alec," he said firmly. "I don't want to talk about this."

"We have to," Alec insisted, his heart aching at the pain in Asmodeus' eyes. "I'm mortal, Asmodeus. I'm going to grow old, and one day... one day, I won't be here."

"No!" Asmodeus stood abruptly, his wings unfurling slightly in his agitation. "I can't bear the thought of losing you, Alec. Not after everything we've been through.”

Alec stood too, reaching out to touch Asmodeus' arm. "I know it's hard, but we need to face it. I need to know that you'll be okay, that the kids will be okay."

Asmodeus turned away, his shoulders tense. "How can you ask me to be okay with losing you? How can you expect me to just accept that you'll be gone?"

Tears pricked at Alec's eyes as he stepped closer, wrapping his arms around Asmodeus from behind. "I'm not asking you to be okay with it. I'm asking you to be prepared. I need to know that you'll find a way to keep going, for our children, for yourself."

Asmodeus sighed, his body relaxing slightly in Alec's embrace. "I don't know if I can," he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. "The thought of a world without you... it's too painful."

Alec tightened his hold, pressing his cheek against Asmodeus' back. "I know. But you have to promise me you'll try. Our children need you. And I need to know that you'll be there for them, even when I'm not."

Asmodeus turned slowly, facing Alec, his eyes filled with a mixture of love and anguish. "I promise I'll try," he said, his voice thick with emotion. "But please, Alec, let's not dwell on this. Let's make the most of the time we have."

Alec nodded, tears spilling down his cheeks. "I love you so much," he whispered.

"I love you too," Asmodeus replied, pulling Alec into a tight embrace. "More than you can ever know."

Alec pulled back slightly, looking deep into Asmodeus' eyes. "When you love, you love hard," he said softly. "I don't want you to break or do something you'll regret because you can't handle my death. I don't expect you to wait 1000 years like the prophecy said. I just want you to experience love, to live. The thought of you being lonely, of you rotting away in your grief, it hurts me."

Asmodeus' eyes filled with tears, and he cupped Alec's face in his hands. "I don't want to be with anyone else," he said, his voice trembling. "I can't even imagine it. Stay in the present with me. Please, let's not think about the future. Let's just be here, now, together."

Alec's heart ached at the depth of Asmodeus' love. He knew this conversation would have to be revisited, but for now, he nodded, leaning into Asmodeus' touch. "Okay," he whispered. "We'll stay in the present. Together."

They held each other close, and Alec could hope that Asmodeus survived the millennium before he returned again.
