Chapter Text
The Pacific Ocean, 400 miles off the coast of Japan, 2022
It was late at night in the Pacific Ocean, rain pelted the deck of the fishing boat as a storm raged above a lone commercial fishing vessel -belonging to some sort of cannery company- as the workers on board of one of the ships worked hard to sort through their catch as currently, the pair of powerful winchs that were connected to the cables that attached to the net that were currently pulling up their most recent catch. While in the captain's deck the captain, named Ren, was watching the radar for if anything Kaiju was coming on the radar.
He had checked up on the current Kaiju movements, which reported that Godzilla was currently resting in his den still, Yamata No Orochi was currently near Nagasaki, and King Ghidorah -who had been placed at the top of the danger list, right beneath Godizlla- was currently making himself at home on a small island off the coast of Sibera. Monarch had updated it's Kaiju Watchers system to keep everyone updated in real time when a Kaiju was moving, especially since how Seattle was left in a mess and a lot of people had died before the city could be fully evacuated.
So for right now, there wasn't anything that could get in their way of fishing up a good catch.
"Any movement on the radar, captain?" Captain Ren's first mate asked in Japanese as he peaked his head into the area, making the Captain sit up in his chair.
"Nope, we're in the clear still." Captain Ren answered as he glanced over at his first mate from where he was standing, noticing the anxiety on his face.
"Okay, I'm just a bit anxious." The first mate answered as he sighed out in relief.
"Relax Kentaro, there hasn't been a Kaiju attack on anything human related for years now, we have nothing to worry about." Captain Ren said, hoping to ease his first mate's anxiety.
"It's hard to relax nowadays." Kentaro answered with a tone of honesty as he then turned and left the room, going back to help on deck in sorting fish.
"You'll be fine, Monarch's Kaiju Watchers keeps us posted on every Kaiju's movement, so even if there was a Kaiju on the move while we're out here, they'll let us know." Captain Ren spoke to Kentaro was walking away from where the captain was
However, as Captain Ren was relaxing in his captain's chair, staring out at the ocean, he noticed something large float to the surface just beyond the reach of the lights and he stood up to look at it. Grabbing a pair of binoculars as he did so. Whatever it was, it was large and was dark in color.
He wasn't the only one to notice either as the crew shone their lights on the object and as Captain Ren looked at the object as the lights illuminated it. He saw what was the absolutely mutilated corpse of some kind of whale as it was missing it's head and was ripped in half, as in it was missing its tail and it's organs were spilling out and blood turning the choppy sea water a deep red shade. As the sea birds that had been following the fishing vessel and had even been resting on it despite the stormy conditions suddenly flew off in a panic.
Which was a strange and very nerve racking sight to see none the less for the crew along with the sight of the floating corpse of the whale. Which suddenly had disappeared from view after everyone looked up at the fleeing sea birds. It was a terrifying sight to look at, because after all, there was nothing alive in the world currently besides a Kaiju that could kill a whale like that and send sea birds flying off in a massive panic unless.
If it weren't for the sight of the whale carcass, the crew would have assumed that a massive wave was coming towards them as for now they all just stood around, looking for what could have possibly caused the sea birds to flee or have killed the wale.
But it was impossible for them to really see anything off their boat.
But his radar didn't pick up anything at all, that is until suddenly, both the metal that connected to both winches suddenly began to creak and groan for a few moments, before suddenly being snapped off by some sort of force and were pulled down into the water, leaving the captain horrified as he watched one of his crew members get killed by the whiplash from the cables while everyone else hit the deck as to be not hit by the flailing cables.
Time seemed to slow down as then, the radar suddenly pinged, picking up a massive object which seemed to be right beneath them, but in reality, it was directly behind them near the back end of the fishing boat. As then Captain Ren then grabbed his speaker and then spoke to his crew in what seemed like a panicked voice.
"All hands, prepare brace for impact!" He shouted over the intercom as then the boat suddenly rocked violently as it was hit from behind by something.
Which had severely damaged the engines of the boat as they could be heard sputtering as alarms went off all over the boat from the damages to the hull as then, the radar pinged again. Showing the object as having moved to the front of the boat. That's when the captain could catch the sight of whatever had damaged his boat as the hull could be heard being ripped apart from below them. As then the boat began to sink but ahead of the boat, emerging from the water, a dark mass could be seen rising from the water above the vessel.
it was impossible for any distinct features to be made out, although what could be seen were a pair of glowing orange eyes as before Captain Ren could react or even scream, the beast had lunged down at their boat. Ripping through it like paper as water rushed into the main area as Captain Ren was swept away by the water that had rushed into the boat, but not before hitting the distress beacon on the console for his boat to alert the Japanese coast guard.
What seemed like a few minutes after the boat had sunk, Kentaro emerged from the waves, gasping for air as he coughed a bit, getting the sea water that had gotten into his mouth out of his body. With him then looking around to see where the rest of his crewmates were, hoping to see if any had survived the mysterious beast's attack. But no one else surfaced. But Kentaro noticed a life buoy and swam over to it. Wrapping his arms around it as he hoped to stay in the same region.
Although he hoped that Captain Ren had activated the distress beacon before the boat had been sunk. Otherwise he would've been left out to die in the middle of the ocean.
But thankfully, after a few hours being stuck in the freezing cold ocean water, and by some luck of not being carried off by the waves, the storm passed and finally, Kentaro could see a helicopter with the colors of the Japanese coast guard flying over head and he flagged them down by shouting and waving his arms. He was thankful Captain Ren had pressed the distress button to inform the coast guard about what had happened to their boat.
Finally, he was fished out of the ocean by them, and he was bombarded with questions, mostly pertaining to what happened. Although he couldn't remember much due to how fast the events had happened. But what he could recall was that the beast that attacked their fishing vessel and sunk it, had glowing orange eyes and was dark in color. So he just uttered one phrase.
"Gojira. We were attacked by Godzilla." Kentaro said to one of his rescuers before he suddenly passed out.
Likely from a combination of adrenaline wearing off, and pure exhaustion.
Although the coast guardsmen looked at each other out of confusion.
"Did he say Godzilla?" One of the coast guard soldiers asked his buddy, looking at her.
"He did, contact command to inform Monarch about this." She confirmed with a nod as then the other coast guard soldier nodded and then contacted their command center to inform them about what had happened.
As in the mean time, the helicopter flew off back towards the Japanese mainland, with the pilot not hesitating a moment longer after he had heard that none other then Godzilla had gone out of his way to attack a boat. Although all of the coast guard soldiers that had been there had one thought on their mind. Was it really Godzilla that had done this? After all, Kaiju Watchers had reported that he was still slumbering in his den.
Something strange was going on.
Notes:
I know this seems a little out of nowhere that I've posted this since your wondering why it's coming out like a day after the conclusion of Heralds' first story, but this has been sitting in my draft's folder for almost a month now. I've been making it since like I've published the first story's last few chapters so now, it's not just randomly coming out.
Besides, it's just a side story.
Chapter 2: Hospital
Chapter Text
Tokyo, The next day
Ishiro Serizawa didn't waste any time going to the hospital that the lone survivor of the recent incident was currently resting at after the newly built Tokyo headquarters for Monarch got word of the incident. As his black SUV rolled into the parking lot of the hospital as he then put the vehicle into park as he then stepped out of the vehicle once he pulled the key from out of the ignition.
The man then walked towards the visitor entrance of the hospital as he pushed open the doors and approached the front desk to speak to the receptionist.
"May I help you, sir?" She asked in Japanese, and Serizawa just pulled out his Monarch identification card, showing it to her.
"I was told he was here." Ishiro responded in a hushed tone, also speaking in Japanese as the receptionist nodded and slid a paper over to him from across her desk.
Which he then took after slipping his id card back inside his jacket, and looked at the paper, which read the out the room that the survivor of the incident that had happened out at sea.
"Thank you." Ishiro said, with a slight bowing movement to the nurse, before turning on his heels and heading off towards the room.
Once he arrived there, he paused right outside the doorframe, allowing the nurse that was currently tending to the young man, who was currently applying bandages to his body, to exit before he then stepped inside the room and sat down next to the bed the young man was resting in.
"Hello, you must be Kentaro, my name is Ishiro." Ishiro spoke, introducing himself, as he looked at the young man as he lay on his back in his medical bed.
Although the young man only seemed to look over at Serizawa, with a certain tiredness in his eyes as his head barely moved to look at him. It was like he had no energy and seemed weak with his movements as Ishiro could get a closer look at the man.
"Can you tell me what attacked your boat?" Ishiro then asked, hoping to get an answer out of the man.
"Godzilla." Is all Kentaro said in response.
But as Ishiro watched him speak, he noticed that Kentaro's voice seemed strained and dry, like the man was dehydrated and his voice seemed weak sounding. As if he were struggling to speak out a single word. Then it clicked in Ishiro's mind. The poor man was suffering from radiation poisoning.
However, he was left confused by what Kentaro meant by Godzilla. As Godzilla wasn't known for attacking ships unless provoked first, such as was the case back during the Castle Bravo nuclear bomb test -which Ishiro's own father had been present for-, where according to the official report, Godzilla was pretty much hit face first with the nuclear explosion and responded by sinking one of the aircraft carriers afterwards.
Other then that, Godzilla wasn't known to attack boats for no reason, especially not fishing vessels, even if he was hungry. This wasn't done by Godzilla, Ishiro knew that. But he waited to see if Kentaro was going to say anything else about the incident. However, the young man just seemed to close his eyes and relax in his medical bed again.
Ishiro wasn't going to ask the man anymore questions, especially not in his current state. But unfornatuely the man was left with more questions then answers with this, was the radiation that were emitted by Kaiju's didn't cause radiation poisoning. They were different.
But from what Ishiro heard, there wasn't really any wreckage left at the sight. So it couldn't have been from a nuclear explosion. So it was safe to say that there wasn't any culprits that spring to mind, and it for sure wasn't done by any other Kaiju because there wasn't any others of Godzilla's species left out there.
Aside from the young specimen that had been found frozen in some form of suspended animation underneath a massive amount of ice in the Arctic Circle over a year ago, but that one was suspected to be dead or in deep hibernation. So there was no way it was moving around now and causing harmful amounts of radiation poisoning to people, although there were rumors of another adult roaming around, but those were just rumors. And certainly this wasn't done by Godzilla's herald, because last he heard, she and doctor Graham were currently still in Canada.
Investigating in the legend behind an Inuit god of ice. So it wasn't her, so even if somehow in the two years since Monarch first learned of the heralds, Godzilla's herald had somehow grown powerful enough to sink fishing vessels, Ishiro doubted she could be the culprit. But Ishiro didn't bother to ask Kentaro anymore questions so he then stood up out of his seat and bowed gratefully to Kentaro for answering the Monarch scientist's questions.
"Thank you, Kentaro, for answering my questions. I hope you make a great recovery." Ishiro said, although Kentaro didn't say anything in response as Ishiro then turned on his heels and left the hospital room. But something told him that Kentaro wasn't going to survive much longer.
Although as he left the room and began to make his way towards the exit of the hospital, Ishiro's mind was still plagued with what could've possibly been behind sinking the fishing vessel. But something in his mind told him that they were dealing with something new entirely and not something that was previously known by Monarch. But he needed a second opinion on the matter. So as he exited the hospital and made his way back over to his car, he pulled out his cellphone.
With him then dialing up a number on it as he climbed into the driverside door of his SUV and then slammed the door shut behind him. As Ishiro waited for the person to pick up the phone, and once they did, he spoke up.
"Doctor Andrews, it's Serizawa, we need to speak. Are you available to speak for right now?" Ishiro spoke in English to the person on the other side of the call, the tone in his voice highlighting his urgency.
While Ilene Andrews was Monarch's leading expert on research for the Megaprimatus kong species, Ishiro also knew that she would have some information regarding the other Kaiju that lived on the Skull Island subcontinent. Since the incident was close to the location, which was close to the Hawaiian Islands.
So it could have been one of the Kaiju that have gotten off of the island and had attacked the fishing vessel. Or possibly could have been one of the many sub-Kaiju that roam the island that got off the island and had attacked the boat.
But Serizawa had to make exactly sure what could have caused the attack, before another rampage happened. Seattle and San Francisco were bad enough as it was, and the United Nations made it quite clear that if Monarch failed one more time to stop a rampage, they would be shut down. He had to cover all ideas.
Chapter 3: Jia
Chapter Text
Skull Island Subcontinent, Pacific Ocean
The canopy of the trees in one of the many jungles on the vast continent-like island of Skull Island shook vigorously as a blur leapt from tree to tree, with a much larger blur chasing after it on the ground and low ragged breaths could be heard coming from the larger blur as it charged after the smaller blur.
Which was Jia, Kong's herald as she was leaping from tree to tree, with a massive playful grin on her face as she had her powers activated -which increased the size of her muscles by a good amount and also made her stronger, and even gave her canine teeth similar to that of Kong's-. The young Iwi girl was now making a game out of being chased by the largest, non-Kaiju predatory animal on Skull Island. Called an Empirotyrannus.
The beast was a Theropod dinosaur similar to that of a Carnotaurus, but also resembled that of a Tyrannosaurus Rex. It had a short, box-like head with a pair of two small forward facing horns above it's eyes. It's scaly skin was like that of a crocodile's and was an army green color primarily with there being darker green stripes running along its spine that was a darker shade, along with that it had a grey underbelly. In terms of size, the massive dinosaur was as tall as a two story house and as long as a school bus. The beast had a stocky build designed to take a beating, but also allow for short bursts of speed when pursuing prey, with powerful leg muscles to help it. It also had short four fingered arms -compared to the rest of it's body- that were used to help keep prey in place and also when fighting rivals over mating rights or territory.
As currently it was chasing Jia on the ground at a speed walking pace, which was still fast, but still slower then Jia since she was still able to avoid being caught in the monster's jaws, and being killed by it. Although the only reason why the beast was chasing after her was because she had decided to anger it by chucking a makeshift spear -which was really just a sharpened branch- at the massive beast to aggravate it into chasing her.
Although doing this was also extremely dangerous since all it took was one slip up and Jia would be a snack for the apex predator. But for now she was safe. Jia found it amusing how the massive predator refused to give up on chasing her as she could hear it charging through the underbrush after her along with hearing it growling and huffing.
Jia then jumped from the tree she was currently in and up into another oner, where she almost lost her balance and fell but he managed to recover just in time as she then continued on with fleeing from the massive carnivorous dinosaur until she managed to reach a cliff face that led up to a higher part of the island. So, without seeing any other option, Jia jumped to the cliff face and began to climb. It wasn't like she hasn't done this before.
But Jia could still hear the Empirotyrannus charging after her still. However, she managed to get away from it quicky enough as she could hear and feel the massive beast's jaws just barely miss her foot as Jia scrambled up the cliff face faster then she had previously. Once she was up the side of the cliff face and over the top of it, Jia looked down at the Empirotyrannus.
Which was currently staring back up at her, letting out a low snarling sound from its throat as it stared at her, and Jia could see the dinosaur's eyes narrowing at her before it let out a low annoyed snarl before turning away and leaving, with it disappearing into the dense undergrowth of the jungle. With Jia smiling to herself that she had defied death yet again, although it wasn't like she didn't almost every day now, especially since Skull Island was an extremely dangerous place for someone like her. Although as Jia turned away from the cliff's edge and began to go somewhere else, she wondered if her friends from the mainland would have as much fun as she did running from dinosaurs.
That thought also reminded her to check her cellphone when she got back to Monarch Outpost Thirty Three. Jia didn't really like being in the outpost and surrounded by Monarch agents as much as she used to, especially after being kidnapped by them and turned into a lab rat. It left a sour taste in her mouth and since then she was always on edge whenever she was inside the outpost.
However, she still trusted her adoptive mother -doctor Ilene Andrews- a good amount. Although Jia internally sighed when she realized that her mother would probably scold her again for disappearing again. Because ever since Jia had become Kong's herald, her mother was always stressing over where Jia was all the time.
But Jia just continued walking through the undergrowth of the jungle as she continued to make her way back to the Monarch outpost she called home. Although she suddenly paused in her walk when she sensed the vibrations of several of something large coming her way, she ducked down behind a massive tree, thinking that it was a pair of mated Empirotyrannus coming her way and passing by. But something told her that it was something else entirely.
So when she peaked to see if her feeling was true or not, she was greeted with the sight of several large Sauropod dinosaurs; called Brontotitan. The animals were massive, with bodies longer then two school buses back to back and standing well over being five stories tall, with long tails used for balance and for defense and also making up a good amount of length. Along with that, the Sauropods had long and sturdy necks that went upwards at slight angle and ended in small heads with a small almost circle like crest above its eyes. Supporting the massive dinosaurs weights were two pairs of sturdy elephant-like feet, the front pair of which had a pair of claws on for defense.
The skin of the Brontotitans were like that of an elephant's as well which helped cool them off and even added more protection to the massive titans bodies. Like they'd be hunted by really anything in the first place, as no predator, not even an Empirotyrannus would dare to take one down alone, and Kaiju like Ramarak or Gorosaurus didn't eat non-Kaiju animals since they lacked the sufficent nutrients.
In terms of coloration, the animals were dark grey primarily with navy blue stripes running down their necks and stopping right before their shoulders with a light grey underbelly.
Jia let out a silent breath of relief as she watched the herd of hulking dinosaurs past by her, crushing foliage beneath their feet and even pushing down some trees with their massive bulk. Although she had to wait for a while since there was about twenty animals in the herd. But she was in no rush to get home currently. So she just watched the hulking animals pass by her.
With her only continuing on after the hulking dinosaurs passed by.
So she then scampered off past the trail the massive dinosaurs had left in their wake, she didn't want to remain there long in case one of Skull Island's smaller carnivores, specifically, a species of wolf simply called the Skull Island Wolf which she was quite familiar with as some packs had been domesticated by her people in the past, but that was long before Jia was born. But they resembled the wolves on the mainland except for the fact they has two pairs of canine teeth. They were pack hunting animals and Jia didn't really feel like having to run from yet another predator today,
Especially since the skull island wolves were known to be very persistent with hunting prey and were endurance hunters, and typically would follow herds of larger prey for days to wait for the perfect opening to take down a young or sick individual.
Jia continued on with her way towards Outpost Thirty Three, and when she got close, the guards opened the gate a smidge for her to get in before promptly shutting it once she was inside the outpost. The outpost itself was surrounded by a massive perimeter wall to keep most wildlife out of the area. Although that didn't stop some flying things, like birds and small Pterosaurs, from getting over it.
But she just continued into the outpost, and headed over to where her mother's personal quarters, where she found it her on the phone with someone, but she didn't say anything to her and just went over to her room to get some rest, she was a bit exhausted from having to run from the Empirotyrannus earlier.
Chapter Text
Ilene Andrews could hear Jia entering their private quarters, as she was currently on the phone with doctor Serizawa. What they were talking about was the recent attack on the fishing vessel off the coast of Hawaii. As now they were trying to figure out who the culprit behind the attack was, the theory was that it was one of Skull Islands marine life that had gotten off the island and sunken it. But the only beast that could possibly do that was the Mosasaurs that lived along Skull Island's coast.
But even then, they didn't leave the island, and certainly weren't large enough to sink a fishing vessel and kill all the crew except for one person.
Ilene argued that it could have been a Kaiju. But the question was; which one?
It certainly wasn't Kong, and Ramarak -despite being slightly related to the prehistoric Mosasaurs- didn't really show any swimming capabilities, and Gorosaurus -a Kaiju that resembled a theropod dinosaur called a Giganotosaurus- wasn't able to swim either, so Ilene had to tell Ishiro that it could not have been any of Skull Island's Kaiju. Especially the tracking chips for the Kaiju never registered them having gone off the island at all.
"You're certain about this, doctor Andrews?" Ishiro's voice asked over the phone.
"Yes, doctor Serizawa, I'm certain that it wasn't one of Skull Island's Kaiju that are responsible." Ilene answered, running a hand through her dark brown, shoulder length hair.
Truthfully, Ilene didn't know what could have been responsible, she was Monarch's lead researcher for Kong in terms of behavior. She was a primatologist after all. So she truthfully didn't really have much of an answer for what could have been the cause of the sinking.
This investigation for what possibly could've destroyed the fishing vessel was starting to come to a sudden close as there wasn't really anything else that could've caused it, and both Serizawa and Ilene knew that as there was some silence over the phone call. As both sides didn't know what to say but then, Serizawa suddenly spoke up.
"I need to go, Monarch's been summoned to the speak before the United States senate and I must represent Monarch." Ishiro said with an apologetic tone for having to hang up. "I wish you luck on figuring out what exactly attacked the fishing vessel, doctor Andrews."
Ilene nodded in understanding before speaking again.
"Thank you, and I hope the senate hearing goes well." She said, a soft smile on her face.
"Thank you, doctor Andrews, I hope to speak with you soon." Ishiro said, before then hanging up the call.
With Ilene then pulling her phone away from her ear and pressed the power off button, stuffing it in her pocket afterwards as she then walked off. Going to Jia's room, and was about to knock on the door, but stopped herself. Ilene was so used to knocking on the door and someone responding. However, Jia wasn't going to answer her knock since she was deaf after all.
So, Ilene peaked the door open and saw Jia sitting on her bed, and Ilene's jaw almost dropped as she saw Jia with a pocket knife, carving away at yet another branch. She didn't know how Jia had even acquired the weapon, or the branch, but Ilene was a bit worried that Jia was going to cut herself with the weapon.
But oddly it was like she had used it since the day she was born. Although Ilene reminded herself that Iwi children were taught how to use knives and make makeshift weaponry when they were children. She forgot that Jia was so much different then other teenage girls. Since when Ilene was around Jia's age -which was sixteen by now-, she was obsessed over boys and a flip phone. But Jia was interested in things someone would normally think were boy things. Granted the Iwi weren't known for having gender specific roles in their society, so it was a given.
Although Ilene did get Jia a phone so she could communicate better then signe language, which Jia was sloppy with when she was tired or sore. Jia didn't use it much though, although when she did it was just to ask Ilene what was for dinner and things like that when Jia was in her room, or to talk to her friends from the mainland.
Ilene then sat down on Jia's bed, and the girl instantly ceased what she was doing and hid the two things underneath her bed almost instantly before turning to face her adoptive mother, after sweeping off the wood shavings from her bed into the garbage below. The look on Jia's face was priceless.
It was a deer in the headlights look and Jia almost expected Ilene to scold her for what she was doing, if anything she almost looked scared. But Jia never looked terrified ever, not even when she was apparently facing down the likes of Amhuluk or King Ghidorah's heralds in Seattle two years ago.
"How much did you see?" Jia signed to Ilene.
"Not much, and I'm not mad." Ilene responded with a low sigh that wasn't visible. "Where were you earlier?"
The reason Ilene was asking where Jia was is because she was basically gone for most of the morning, and Ilene was curious to know what Jia had been doing in that time.
"Playing." Jia responded back.
Ilene then let out a more audible sigh as she knew exactly what Jia meant by "playing", she knew her adoptive daughter had probably angered yet another of Skull Island's large animals, and judging by how tired Jia looked. She had probably decided to get an Empirotyrannus to chase after her, or some other carnivorous animal that roamed Skull Island.
"Why? You could have been hurt or worse." Ilene scolded Jia.
"I was bored and I wanted to have some fun." Jia signed back in reply.
Ilene sighed again and paused for a bit, thinking about what she was going to sign before she spoke, especially since she didn't want to upset Jia or anything. So she finally decided on what she was going to say.
"Please just don't do it with the big ones anymore. I don't want you to get hurt, and Kong probably doesn't either." Ilene signed out.
Whenever Ilene brought up Kong, Jia always had a guilty look on her face afterwards. Especially since Jia always seemed to look up to Kong as some sort of father figure, which Ilene understood since Jia didn't really have much memories of her birth father, or her birth parents in general. All Ilene knew was that they had been killed protecting Jia.
Which the Iwi called the Night Prowler, but Monarch knew it as Nyxosuchus, a land dwelling species of crocodilian designed for pursing prey. This had happened when Jia was only six years old and when Ilene and Monarch found Jia, she had practically been banished from the Iwi tribe due to her being deaf.
But since Ilene didn't have a romantic partner, nor anyone who would help her raise Jia in the first place. So now that Jia was Kong's herald, it was like she had a father figure to take care of her. Even if said father figure was a three hundred foot tall gorilla that fought large reptiles for fun.
"Okay, I won't." Jia signed back, having a guilty look on her face as she didn't want to have upset Ilene, or Kong.
Ilene then smiled at Jia and then enveloped Jia in a soft hug, which Jia returned immediately. Although the moment was suddenly interrupted by Ilene's phone buzzing in her pocket, signifying that someone was calling her.
So she pulled away and then answered the phone call, which was from Outpost Thirty Three's head of operations, director Hamilton.
"Yes director Hamilton?" Ilene asked.
"The United States Coast Guard found the wreckage on the Hawaiian Islands." The director's voice spoke over the call. "I need you to go out there with a team and investigate it."
"Of course director, I'll be there right away." Ilene answered, although she wasn't sure why she was needed, although it was probably because all the other scientists had other tasks, so Ilene was kind of forced to do it.
With that, director Hamilton hung up the phone call, and Ilene got up and sighed, looking at Jia who without even signing a word gave Ilene a look that said "I'm coming with you". Ilene knew better then to argue with Jia, so she just motioned for her to go get ready and so they could leave.
Which Jia happily did so, jumping up and heading off, while Ilene gathered her own things.

Chapter Text
Maui, Hawaiian Archipelago, A Few Hours Later
It was like a scene straight out a military action movie on one of the many beaches of the island of Maui in the Hawaiian Archipelago several United States coast guard vehicles had set a perimeter around the absolutely destroyed wreckage of a Japanese fishing vessel. Which directly resembled the description of the fishing vessel that had been recently attacked.
There was humvees and other vehicles parked in the area, as coast guard soldiers locked down the entire area, allowing for no one to see what the armed forces were up to inside. As inside the now restricted area, soldier dawning newly developed radiation gear were examining the wreckage. Which was strangely now radioactive.
Said radiation was not deadly by any means, but still could cause life long events with long enough exposure. Although the soldiers were currently working to decontaminate the area.
Although one man, doctor Niko "Nick" Tatopoulus, was studying one part of the wreck specifically. He had tannish skin with dark brown hair and eyes. He was currently wearing a yellow radiation hazard suit, but underneath he was wearing a green t-shirt with a red jacket which lacked as hood along with that a pair of dark green camouflage patterned pants. With a pair of protected boots on his feet.
In the current moment, he seemed to be staring at a part of the hull that had what appeared to be several claw marks running through it, which led into the storage area of the vessel. Which was completely empty, like something had come in and picked it completely clean. Judging by the claw marks, it wasn't by sharks or typical sea life. This was done by something much larger.
But Nick didn't know what. Granted his field of expertise was radiation. Not megazoology- or whatever the study of Kaiju was called, Nick wasn't exactly up to date on this sort of stuff. If anyone were to ask Nick what would have done it, he would've just flat out said Godzilla was the culprit.
Nick then looked at the claw marks one final time, before turning away and walking off back towards the sort of base that was set up at the site that was comprised of several tents containing gear -which were far enough away from the wreck so that none of the on sight crew would get radiation poisoning-. Most of these tents were for cleanup and even one tent was dedicated for weaponry. He didn't understand why there was a tent for weapons, but it wasn't his job to ask questions. So he then went to one of the tents -after being decontaminated of course-, which was an on sight laboratory, with there being a few computers, test tubes and other scientific equipment on tables.
But it wasn't just for Nick, there was someone else inside the tent.
Doctor Elsie Chapman, a well renowned paleontologist and one of the few scientists that also studied Kaiju who wasn't in Monarch, and also one of Nick's friends. Elsoe had red hair that went down slightly past her shoulders and she had tan skin with green eyes. She was currently wearing a long sleeved green shirt, with a beige colored vest over top of it and brown sweatpants. She wasn't wearing a very professional outfit.
But Nick didn't really care all that much. After all, his own outfit wasn't very formal itself.
"Doctor Chapman." Nick spoke, stirring her from her work, which was running DNA tests on a greenish grey colored scale that they had found lodged on the wreckage.
"Hey, Nick." She greeted, looking over at him with a soft smirk on her face.
"Any results yet?" Nick asked after getting out of his radiation suit.
Elsie shook her head in response before answering.
"Not yet, there's nothing currently matching up with the sample, but I currently have the DNA being analyzed." Elsie answered, looking at a screen next to the scale sample, which was analyzing the DNA still, but the progress was slow.
"But... all I know now is that whatever this scale came from is for sure a type of large animal with scales, but of what species, I don't know." Elsie continued, as Nick just listened along.
"Any theories of what could have caused the wreckage?" Nick then asked.
"For now, my leading theory is that the wreckage was caused by a scaled Kaiju. But the ones that can be eliminated from that list immediately are Mokele-Mbembe, Yamata No Orochi, Ghidorah, Rodan, Ropen, and Godzilla." Elsie responded.
Most of them were understandable, as Mokele-Mbembe was just too large- and also a herbivore. Others like Rodan, Ghidorah, and Ropen were just too far from here to be the culprits. Plus Yamata No Orochi was a serpent, there was no way it could leave claw marks in the hull of a fishing vessel. There was also the fact that none of the Kaiju's scale colors matched the sample.
"Why eliminate Godzilla as the culprit?" Nick asked. Purely just to see why she thought so.
"The scales don't match. Here, look at this." Elsie then pulled out an image that was a clump of black scales, which was unmistakably Godzilla's. Which were a deep shade, almost as black as charcoal, and looked almost crocodilian. "This sample's scales are a completely different color, along with the fact it doesn't even have the same appearance of Godzilla's scales."
"I see." Nick replied, a slight smile on his face as he got ready to say more.
However, their discussion was suddenly interrupted by a soldier entering the tent suddenly.
"I apologize for intruding, but doctor Chapman, Tatopolous, I need you to come with me." She spoke, looking at both of them.
Nick then looked to Elsie, who just simply shrugged and stood up. As they then followed the soldier out of the tent. Although Elsie followed out after she secured the sample so that it couldn't be contaminated. However, as they walked, Nick heard the sound of helicopter rotors overhead and he looked up to see an osprey helicopter flying over head of them.
Although when it landed, Nick's face darkened into a glare as he saw the familiar white, sideways hourglass shaped insignia on the tail of the aircraft. Of course Monarch had to be here. Nick wasn't a big fan of Monarch in the slightest. He found them sloppy with their work and uncaring with their actions. They held all the information on the Kaiju and only published said information to the public after three of the beasts ripped up San Francisco in 2014.
Even then they didn't publish everything, as evident with the fact that there was now a three headed alien now living on the planet. Which just made Nick despise them more. Because thousands of people died to said alien Kaiju before it was put to a stop by Godzilla. This was exactly why he turned down Monarch's requests for him to join them in researching the radioactive beasts. \
But, Nick was drawn out from his thoughts by Elsie speaking quietly to him.
"I wonder who they sent to investigate this." She murmured quietly as they approached the osprey helicopter.
As the landing ramp then deployed downwards and out from it stepped a woman, likely in her mid thirties, in a white button up shirt underneath a black rain jacket and wearing a pair of blue jeans. She had deep brown hair that ran down just past her shoulders. Along with her was a few other monarch scientists, and most strangely, a girl that looked to be sixteen years old.
She had tan colored skin with black hair that was done up into a semi messy braid, and she was wearing a simple black t-shirt underneath an unzipped deep green hoodie and a pair of grey sweatpants. On her neck was a necklace that had a recurved tooth on it, which looked like the tooth of some kind of dinosaur.
Nick then walked up to the lead scientist, reminding himself internally to be professional and respectful with her. So, he outstretched his hand for her to shake. Which she did.
"Doctor Nikko Tatopolous, and you are?" He asked, introducing himself as they shook hands.
"Doctor Ilene Andrews." The scientist responded with a slight smile. "And this is my daughter, Jia."
She was referring to the girl she had brought with her, and Nick just waved at her slightly, which she just returned before slinking over to her mother's side as Elsie introduced herself to Ilene. Who was apparently Monarch's lead researcher into King Kong and other primate-like Kaiju. Which was a bit confusing to Nick as to why Monarch would send a primatologist to investigate a wreck cased by a reptilian Kaiju.
But he didn't say anything at the moment as Elsie explained the situation to doctor Andrews while Nick just listened in.
Notes:
Going to put this thing on hold, been experiencing some Kaiju burnout as of late and I want to take a break from this to focus on other things. I'll be sure to update it whenever I get my motivation to do Kaiju stuff back again.
