Odd One Out

Summary:

Izuku has done it, he made it into U.A. High and got in the hero course. Now he can work on becoming a hero and make All Might and his mom proud. That said, he didn't expect to be the only boy in the whole class. That's a bit nerve wracking.

One Shot. Could become a full story later on.

Would/will be an Izuku x Harem.

Notes:

Back with another one shot to do! Granted this one does have a potential to become a story of its own, but if that happens it won’t be anywhere near anytime soon. But I wanted to do this to once again clear my head from a few ideas I have so I can focus on other things I’ve been working on.

This one, like my previous one shot I did, was inspired by a fic that had a similar premise. It involved certain characters genderbent and I think Itsuka was a childhood friend of Izuku and Katsuki (More so the former than the latter for obvious reasons). Can’t remember the name of it plus I don’t think I finished reading it cause I got lazy. But yeah, this one will have more differences which will become apparent as you all will see.

So let’s dive into this, and see how things will go. And should I decide to turn this into a full story at some point, join to see the start of such a future story. And yes from this premise if one is wondering it would/will be an Izuku x Harem cause those are fun to do.

Enjoy, or not, I don’t care you all have your opinions.

Everything belongs to their respective owners.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“1-A… 1-A…” One certain dark green haired teenager muttered to himself as he made his way through the large hallways of U.A. High.  While nervous immensely, he couldn’t help but have a large smile on his face.

Izuku still couldn’t believe it, even after everything that has happened recently.  It was like a dream coming true to attend U.A!  That alone would be crazy enough for him, but he’s in the hero course!  Something he dreamed of becoming since he was a little boy.  Now he would be able to work on achieving such a dream!  All thanks to All Might, he wouldn’t let him down, he wouldn’t let his mom down, no matter what challenges may be thrown at him!

He hoped his classmates would be friendly, admittingly nervous about that considering past experiences he had.  Maybe that cute brown haired girl who saved him in the Entrance Exam would be here, or even that cool orange haired girl who helped him also!  He would like to meet them again and properly thank them for their help.  If it weren’t for them, he didn’t know what would have happened.

Eventually, he arrived in front of the 1-A classroom.  Looking up at the rather gigantic door, the Ninth holder felt his nervousness grow.  He didn’t know how many of his new classmates would already be here, but the idea was still nerve wracking.

‘Breathe Izuku, you can do this,’ Izuku thought to himself, taking a moment to ease himself.  Breathing in a deep breath, he slowly began to open the door and enter inside, ‘I hope they’re all nice…’

To his relief, not many students have yet arrived.  Counting him, there were only six students present.  Few already in their seats, while the remaining still stood up.  Either left to their own devices or were talking with their fellow classmates already making acquaintances with each other.  All of them girls oddly enough, but Izuku didn’t pay much attention to that.  Mainly due to knowing he would blush like a moron if he focused on that.

That said, Izuku couldn’t help but get a look at his classmates while he made his way into the classroom out of curiosity.  A beautiful girl with black hair tied in a ponytail sitting at her desk all elegant-like waiting for everyone else to arrive.  A pink haired and pink skinned girl with yellow horns happily chatting up with a girl who looked completely invisible and a dark green haired girl with sharp teeth, all three clearly becoming fast friends.  The sixth student sitting at her desk double checking that she has everything, having long wild crimson hair that went to her upper back with a few bangs over her green eyes while beautiful in her own right.

Izuku felt his cheeks warm up from seeing them but did his best to shake that away before refocusing on finding himself a seat.  He didn’t want to make a fool out of himself in front of his new classmates or give the wrong impression.

“That curly hair!” At least, he was about to go find a seat until a familiar voice grabbed his attention.  Turning around with wide eyes, his cheeks once more flushed red upon a certain brown haired girl, Ochako, entering the room and running up to him with a wide smile.  Behind her a familiar girl with her hair tied in a high ponytail also smiling from seeing him, “It’s you!  The boy from the exam!”

“How about that?” The orange haired girl, Itsuka spoke, a smile on her face as she continued, “What are the odds of us all being in the same class?”

“It’s you two!” Izuku managed to respond back despite his stutter and the fact his face being beet red from the attention of two pretty girls talking to him.  Still, he managed to give them both a smile despite his embarrassment, “I never got a chance to thank you both from helping me out.  If it weren’t for you two I don’t think I would have made it.”

His face still beet red while saying those words, Ochako simply grinned while Itsuka’s smile grew more fond and soft.

“Nonsense!  We should be thanking you!  You saved our hides from that giant robot!  That punch you did was awesome!” Ochako thanked him back, making a motion of a punch all excited like.  This only made Izuku feel even more embarrassed, nearly hiding his face from how red it was from blushing.

“How has your arm and legs been?  Considering the damage…” Itsuka asked trialing off, recalling how shattered his limbs were from his action saving them.

“Oh, they’re all good now!  Recovery Girl healed them all up!  Had no issues since!” Izuku assured her, giving her his own soft smile while still a bit wobbly from his embarrassment.

Before any of them could continue from there however…

 “It’s the cute bloody boy!”

“HEH?!” Izuku shouted in shock and further embarrassment.  He, Ochako and Itsuka turning around in surprise only for him to be met with the face of yet another pretty girl who had just arrived, golden yellow eyes meeting his green far to close than he could handle.  A big smile on her face, showing sharp canine teeth.

“I knew you had to get in after that awesome move you did!  Saw you punch that robot into nothing like BAM!  And your arm got all busted up and bloody… it was so cool!” The light dirty blonde haired student shared with excitement in her eyes, which Izuku couldn’t help but find cute.  Thinking that only made his blush worse, but at least he didn’t mutter it out or anything, “Aw!  You really think I’m cute?”

He wanted to crawl in a hole and die.  Thankfully, Itsuka would pull the girl’s attention away giving him a moment to breathe when she spoke up, a look of confusion on her face.

“And you are…?” Itsuka asked, getting the other girl to blink before smiling widely once more.

“Oh, I’m Himiko Toga!  You can call me Himiko, I don’t mind!  I was in the same exam area as you all and saw cutie here whack that giant bot to smithereens!  He was so cool!  Especially how bloodied his arm got!” Himiko shared, her grin never leaving her face.  The fact she once again thought he was cute made Izuku even more embarrassed than before, which was impressive considering how red face he already was.

“What had befell your arm?” Another voice joined in, getting them to turn around to see a girl with pale grey hair walking in their way from the classroom entrance having overheard them, “Forgive me, I didn’t mean to eavesdrop.  My name is Reiko Yanagi, it’s a pleasure to meet you all.”

Despite his nervousness and embarrassment still existing, Izuku managed to calm down enough to give her a proper, albeit still somewhat nervous smile.

“It’s okay, I’m Izuku Midoriya.  I damaged my arm and legs during the Entrance Exam but Recovery Girl healed them without issue.” Izuku informed her, though Himiko blinked from hearing that.

“You broke your legs too?  That’s so cool!  Were they bloodied up also?” Himiko asked in excitement, not knowing about the legs due to having seen the punch and only the arm from her spot back in the exam area when she saw him fly upward decking the robot in the face.

“I don’t think having your limbs broken and bloodied up could be considered cool.” Itsuka pointed out with a minor deadpanned look to the light dirty blonde haired girl, who only pouted from hearing that.

“It’s cool to me.” She replied back, convinced that the cute boy breaking his limbs and getting them all bloodied just to punch a giant bot was awesome.

Ochako simply looked on, seeing the discussion the boy and the other three girls were now in.  A smile on her face, she believe she will have a good time being here, already seeing them as friends.  She looked at the rest of the classroom, the remaining students arriving during the initial talk that they started.

  …Wait.

Ochako blinked.  She looked to her left.

  Girls.

Ochako then turned to her right.

  More girls.

Mentally counting how many were in the classroom already, it seemed like all twenty students were now present.  A comical yet blank expression forming on her face, she slowly looked back towards Midoriya ahead of her.

‘Eh?’ She thought, surprise and befuddlement growing in her.  Was… was Midoriya the only boy in the entire class?!

She wasn’t the only one to notice this odd detail.  A few of the other female students also taking note of the skewed ratio of sexes in the classroom.  They looked at each other, wondering if this was supposed to be the case or if something was amiss here.

Izuku however, God bless his soul, didn’t seem to realize or notice this.  The dark green haired teenager too focus on the conversation he now had with Himiko, Itsuka and Reiko, having calmed down a bit and gotten more comfortable with their presence.  A big smile on his face, happy to be making friends.

The door suddenly sliding open with a loud bang got all the students to flinch and yelp in shock, caught off guard by the sudden action.

“IN YOUR SEATS!” A booming voice of a man’s roared out, getting everyone to widen their eyes.  Hastily, with a few students bumping into one another initially before recovering, dived to their seats and sat down frantically.

With that done, the students looked ahead to see a man, presumably their teacher, slowly walking in front of the classroom, his gaze upon them all.  The man wore a long-sleeved black coat that was left open, allowing the light grey shirt underneath to be seen.  Dark grey pants and grey combat boots the teacher also wore, with a black belt on his waist holding numerous combat knives and a pistol in a holster.  He wore a black hat along with headphones that had a mic attached to it on his head.  A black backpack is worn on his back.  What stood out about him was that his skin was a whiten grey tone, his eyes were squint and covering his mouth and nose, bits of his hands, and on his chest underneath his clothing were solid grey rock.

“Four seconds to settle down.  Not bad, but can be improved,” The teacher spoke calmer and with some amusement in his tone, eyeing the class ahead of him, “My name is Deimos.  I am your substitute homeroom teacher for the time being.  As your actual homeroom teacher was called in for a mission, I will be performing the role until that’s settled.  I will also be your history teacher.”

Hearing that Izuku couldn’t help but widen his eyes in surprise yet excitement.  He’s heard of Deimos!  He was initially part of a vigilante group known to taking down villains and criminals before they got recognize for their actions, giving them official hero and legal status!  Sure, they were known to be quite… brutal in their methods, but Izuku couldn’t help but look up to them in a way.  Especially since one of the members of the group was-.

“Up from your seats,” Deimos speaking cut Izuku’s trail of thought off, “Head to the locker rooms, each of you will have gym clothes already ready and waiting for you to change in.  After that, head out to the P.E. Grounds.”

That caught the students by surprise, leaving them confused.

“Wait, what about the orientation?” A girl with brown hair that covered her eyes, Kinoko Komori, meekly raised her hand while asking.

“A waste of time,” Deimos waved it off, already making his way out of the classroom, “Everything that will be discuss there can all be found and read in your syllabus in your desks.  You will also have maps of the school’s layout should you have need for it.  Not get moving, we’re burning daylight!”

That got the students to quickly get up, already making their way out of the classroom.  Ochako couldn’t help but look behind her, seeing where Izuku was at… and noticing his comically wide eyes and beet red face.

Ah, looked like he finally noticed the makeup of the class.

‘A FEW MINUTES LATER’

Kyouka admittingly was puzzled from the day so far.  The fact that it barely started didn’t go unnoticed by her either.

First she arrives in the 1-A classroom, nothing major there.  But then she noticed after all twenty students showed, there was only a single boy while the rest of them were girls.  Like, what were the odds of that happening?  Then their teacher shows up and is having them skip orientation to do… something.  She wasn’t sure what, but it was clearly going to be some type of assignment, but what kind she didn’t know.

Now, here they all stands out in the P.E. Grounds in their gym uniforms, standing near one another while their teacher stood ahead of them all.  Hard to tell from the rock covering half his face, but the Earphone Jack-Quirk user had a gut feeling he was satisfied by their arrival.  Specifically, for not being late.

“Good, you all arrived.  Work on showing up sooner, but otherwise not bad for starters,” Deimos told them all.  Clearly his throat, the grey skinned man continued onward seeing he had all the students paying attention, “Alright then, listen up!  We will be conducting a physical assessment test!  This will involve eight tests that you all will be doing, such as softball throwing and upper body training!  While I’m sure you’ve all done such tests before, this time for those who have them you will be using your quirks should you believe them to be beneficial to use for certain tests.  That said, this is a physical test, so it will be your overall performance that will be gauged, regardless of quirk usage or not.”

Deimos then moves his gaze towards a tanned girl with light beige hair with a large bang in between her blue-grey eyes and bangs that curved at the frame of her face, and much to Kyouka’s slight envy had a pretty large bosom.  Though the dark purple haired girl noticed she was far from the only girl here who had such impressive chest size.  She wasn’t jealous, shut up.

“Rosales, how far could you throw in middle school?” Deimos asks of her, getting her to be surprised to be called on.  She got over it quickly, giving the teacher an answer.

“Around fifty-three meters, Sensei.” Sorona Rosales answered.

“Not bad.  Come over here to this circle on the ground.  I want you to throw it as far as you can.  You are not to leave the circle.” Deimos instructed her while pointing to the circle on the ground near him, getting her to nod.

The tanned light beige haired girl walked over to the circle, being handed a ball by the substitute homeroom teacher.  Kyouka along with everyone else watching with interest to see how this goes.  None of them knew what their classmate’s quirk was, would it even make a difference in this exercise?  Kyouka’s gaze moved to the only boy in their class, the dark green haired teen still having a tint of red in his cheeks yet had eyes on Sorana like the rest of them did.  Kind of hard not to look at him considering how he stuck out in a class like theirs.

Moving her gaze back to Sorana, the tanned girl took in a few deep breathes before throwing the ball as hard as she could.  Nothing indicated a quirk being used, but Kyouka figured not all of their quirks would suit certain tests, figuring that was the case here.  Deimos checked the tracker he had on hand, before showing a result of sixty-three meters to the rest of the students.

“Knowing your limits is crucial.  Regardless of how minor they may be now; this will be the first step to learn these limits then working to break them and become even greater than before.” Deimos explained to the students.

Kyouka nodded to that, thinking it was understandable.  Gotta learn what you can and can’t do then move ahead to work on them right?

“Sweet!  This is going to be fun!” The pink skinned girl, Mina Ashido exclaimed excitedly pumping a fist into the air.  Others also had big smiles of excitement in their expressions.  Midoriya oddly enough looked worried, but Kyouka wasn’t sure why.  Did his quirk not fit with most of the tests or something?

 “Fun?”

The cold tone in Deimo’s voice got her to freeze, while getting the rest to look confuse and nervous from the sudden shift in their teacher’s behavior.  Even with half of his face covered by stone and his eyes remained squinted, it was clear his expression showed frustration.

“When you go out there into the world,” Deimos begun to say, his tone still cold and quiet, slowly moving to his right yet gaze remaining on them all, “When you have to deal with natural disasters that decimate cities bringing it all to rumble.  When you have to face psychopaths who’ll have no issue causing as much chaos as possible.   When you have to face murderers and rapists who’ll have no qualm giving each of you death or a fate even worse.  When people are suffering, their homes in ruins and loved ones in danger, begging and crying out for someone to save them.”

Deimos stopped moving, staring directly at them all with a glare so intense that many felt weak in their knees in that moment, Kyouka no exception.

“You’re going to go into that with the mindset that all of it is fun?”

No one said anything, admittingly unsure or scared of what to say.  But then, Deimos dropped the glare and leaned back.  If it weren’t for the rocks on him, Kyouka had a feeling he would be grinning in an unsettling way.

“Alright.  Then let’s see if you have the conviction to back that up.  If I believe any of you are slacking in these tests and not giving it your all, regardless of if it’s just one of you or all of you, you will be deemed unfit and removed from the hero course.” Deimos stated, unbothered by the threat he just put onto them all.

Everyone gained wide and shocked eyes.  Kyouka herself taken back by what the former vigilante gave them which was essentially an ultimatum.  If they seemed to be slacking in his eyes then they would be transferred out of the hero course?

“Wow, he’s really serious.” Himiko muttered to herself.  She figured someone like Deimos would be tough but jeez.  Sure, it wasn’t flat out expulsion but she didn’t want to be transferred out of the hero course.  Plus, she wanted to stay with and hang out with the cute bloody boy still!  If Deimos thinks his threat can scare her then he has another thing coming!

Izuku meanwhile stared at Deimos with wide eyes.

“Transferred out…?” Izuku muttered to himself, worry only growing.  He still didn’t know how to properly use One for All without hurting himself!  How was he going to do well in these tests if he couldn’t use his quirk in a way that won’t cause a backlash?!  If he didn’t use his quirk, would Deimos think he was slacking off and have him moved out?!

Before he could dive further down such thoughts, Midoriya noticed of the worry that many of the other students had.  Right, they too were at risk at being kicked out of the course too if Deimos thought they weren’t putting all their effort into these tests.  Izuku felt guilty, here he was being selfish when they were at risk at being transferred out also.

Seeing his classmates worried… it stirred something in him.  Whether it was bravery or insanity, Izuku gained a determined look and looked back to where Deimos was still facing them all.  Noticing his gaze, Deimos met him with his own.

“None of us worked this hard just to give up or be scared out from out spots we earned,” Izuku spoke up, getting everyone’s attention while Izuku raised a fist towards Deimos, a nervous but still determined smile on the dark green haired boy’s face, “We’ll show you that we earned our spots!  We’ll handle anything you throw at us!”

His words were simple, yet it seemed to help not only ease the other students but also get them to stand tall and look at Deimos with their own expressions or resolve.  Kyouka among then, looking at Izuku with surprise before a smile formed on her face.

“Yeah, you tell him Green!” She couldn’t help but cheer him on.  The dark purple haired girl unable to stop a small giggle from the big blush the boy got from that.  The fact that he blushed from a plain girl like her felt really nice.

“Green?” He stuttered rather adorably, the quiet tone clearly showed it was meant for himself yet she and others heard it regardless.

Deimos, meanwhile, while hard to tell from the rock on his face, looked pleased from Izuku’s words.  Along with how the girls gaining confident and determined expressions themselves.  Now to see if they can live up to their own hype.

“That’s what I like to hear.  Hope you have the bite behind that bark,” Deimos then turned around, prepared to officially start the tests, “Show me that you all have the strength to overcome it all, Plus Ultra style!  Let us begin!”

‘A LITTLE WHILE LATER’

So far from Deimos’s observations, they were all doing pretty well all things considering.  Sure, some did better than others naturally, but that was normal.  Whether it was how they were built, aid from their quirk, or just having more experience, some students did better on certain things then do not so well on others.

With the 50-meters dash, Yaoyorozu, Ikoi, Tsunotori and Saeko did best, even if Yaoyorozu just made a scooter from her quirk and rode on it.  But it came from her quirk, thus he allowed it.  The rest gave it their all, even if a few among them looked frustrated from their results.  But that showed Deimos that they cared about wanting to do better.  Was interesting to see the other students react to Saeko sprouting characteristics of a demon looking monster with wings, allowing her to easily tie for fastest along with Ikoi.  Midoriya, seeing all sorts of quirks in action acted like a kid in a candy store.

Next came grip strength, pretty solid overall among the students.  Those with quirks that added to their strength like Saeko’s, Kendou’s, and a few others gave them the edge.  Outside of quirk use however, Midoriya did the best.  Even though Deimos knew some hate it when speaking about it, but quirks and their effects aside, when it comes to basic biology boys tend to do better with certain physical activity, and here it showed.

The third event, the standing long jump.  Evenly split on the results here.  Some like Tokage, Yanagi, Asui, Uraraka, and Michiru did better.  Others like Rosales, Hagakure, Kodai, and Toga did worse.  For Midoriya, he did well somewhere in the middle, but even then Deimos would put him on the lower end of the middle.

The fourth event, repeated side steps.  Everyone did pretty decent on that.  Not much to say for this one.

Now, comes the fifth test.  The ball throw.  Since Rosales already did it at the start, she didn’t have to redo it and thus sat out this one on his order.  Yaoyorozu shot her ball out of a cannon.  Jirou swung her earphone jacks to throw the ball.  Asui used her tongue to give the ball more momentum.  Yanagi put a telekinetic hold on the ball before launching it.  Tokage simply detached her hand and simply float it upward while holding the ball, which was creative way to get it done Deimos would admit.  Uraraka touched her ball… and it just float upward forever to infinity.

Yeah they weren’t getting that ball back.

After her, it was now Midoriya’s turn.  The boy looked nervous and worried, but Deimos figured that was a good way of showing that he was taking this seriously.  Besides, he already knew as to why he seemed to struggle to just use his quirk, so he wasn’t going to get onto him for that.  As long as he didn’t try to explode his arm off or something.

Izuku meanwhile stood in the circle, trying to ease his breathing.  He looked at the ball in his hands.  He knew he had to actually use his quirk at one point, right now he needed to prove that he was worth staying here and not be moved out of the hero course!

‘I can do this!’ Izuku thought, gaining a determined look, preparing to throw the ball.  Power building up in his arm, he threw the ball with all he had!

At least, he was going to until the earth shot up behind him, grabbing his arm and stopping him in his track.

“Huh?!” Izuku squawked out in an almost comical manner, taken back from the earth coming to life and putting a stop to him.  He wasn’t the only one taken back, the girls were also surprised by this, all while puzzlement reigned among them all.

“What were you doing?” Deimos spoke, getting Izuku and the rest to look his way.  His hand raised up fingers pointing upward, showing him behind the earth rising and grabbing Izuku’s arm before he could throw.

Lowering his hand and dismissing the earth, releasing Izuku from its hold, the former vigilante walked over towards the dark green teen.  Standing before him, his gaze looking down at the student before him.

“Were you seriously about to shatter your arm just to throw the ball?  This isn’t some life-or-death situation; this is just a test.  No need to go such drastic measures.” Deimos told him, his gaze not moving from Midoriya.

“I… I was just trying too…” Izuku stuttered, a bit intimidated from how Deimos looked down on him the way he was currently.

Deimos then sighed, causing puzzlement in Izuku before the teacher looked at him once again.

“Look, I get it.  You’re a late bloomer kid, your file told me that much.  I was the same,” Deimos told him, getting Izuku to widen his eyes in surprise from this.  Granted Deimos’s case was more… complicated than the boy’s, but the less said on that incident the better, “And I get that you want to use your power, but shattering your arm isn’t going to do you any favors.”

While the two’s words were meant for just them, Kyouka couldn’t help but overhear it thanks to the enhanced hearing her quirk gives her.  Hearing what she did got to her by surprise.

“He’s a late bloomer?” The dark purple haired girl questioned, mainly more to herself than anything.  Yet the others heard her, making them look her way.

“Who’s a late bloomer?  Wait…,” Ochako asked, before it quickly dawned on her, figuring out what Jirou was talking about while she looked towards where Izuku and Deimos were at, “Midoriya’s a late bloomer?  Like, his quirk came in late?”

“Wait, is that why he received so much damage when he used it against the zero pointer?” Itsuka questioned out loud, which only confused even more of the girls around her.

“Damage?  What do you mean?” A girl with long green hair that looked to be made of vines reaching her waist, Ibara, asked.  A question that Himiko jumped in to answer.

“Oh, he completely busted up his legs and arm when he launched himself and decked the giant robot in the face!  It was so cool!” Himiko shared, excitement shining in her eyes as she recalled it.  She was looking forward to see that here again too, but Deimos-Sensei had to be a jerk and stop it.

“He did what?!” A girl with certain Cheetah-like features with messy brown hair that passed her chin, along with fluffy Cheetah-like ears on her head and amber colored eyes, Mikami Ikoi, shouted out in shock from hearing that.

“Wow, that’s pretty hardcore,” The girl with dark green hair and sharp teeth, Setsuna Tokage stated with a big grin on her face.  Noticing some glares and deadpanned looks she was receiving, the Lizard Tail Splitter-Quirk user went on to rectify, “The punching a giant robot in the face thing.  Not the breaking his limbs part.”

“Still, to receive such backlash… what kind of quirk does he have that causes such drawbacks?” The girl with wild long crimson hair with bangs over her green eyes, Tomomi Saeko wondered out loud with a hand on her chin.  The fact that, if she was getting it right, Midoriya had no issue with breaking himself just to take down a zero pointer, and if he was about to go through that again just now, it showed he had no issue handling massive amount of pain.

“It has to be some type of physical enhancement, if it gave him the means to take down a zero pointer by punching it.  But I never heard of one that results in shattering their limbs.” Momo Yaoyorozu guessed from what she heard and seen of the boy so far.  But like what Saeko mentioned, she never heard of a physical empowering quirk that causes such recoil to its user.

“Still, that’s pretty sick.” A girl with shoulder length fawn hair and dark brown eyes, Camie Utsushimi stated, finding the boy’s action and willing to break himself to do so, as Tokage put it, hardcore.  Helped that he looked cute too.

While the nineteen female students were discussing that, Deimos turned around to walk back to his initial spot, speaking to Midoriya while he did so.

“Try to throw the ball again.  If you’re going to use your quirk, find a way to use it without causing your arm to explode, okay?” Deimos told Izuku, arriving at his spot before turning around to properly face the dark green hair teen again.

Izuku looked at him, before refocusing his attention on the ball in his hand.  He gripped it, a little frustration, but he knows that Deimos is right.

‘Focus Izuku,’ Izuku thought, trying to ease his breathing while he closed his eyes, ‘I may not be able to properly control One for All yet.  But if I can go full out without breaking as much as I can…’

Izuku brought his arm back, this grabbing the attention of his classmates while Deimos watched onward with interest.  Nothing showed that he was using his quirk, was he just going to try to throw it without it?

But just as Izuku was about to launch it, Deimos saw it.  At the very tip of his finger, right as he was about to let go, the energy of Izuku’s quirk showed.  And before anyone knew it…

*BOOM*

A large shockwave emitted from the dark green haired teen, a finger broken and a ball that went flying across the sky out of sight in an instance.  Many of the students had to put their arms up to protect their faces and eyes from the resulting burst of air that resulted from the throw.  Even the ground beneath Midoriya broke apart from the intensity of the power he unleashed, leaving numerous cracks and pebbles in its wake.

A few moments later did the shockwave died down, dust settling while those who lifted their arms lowered them.  Expressions of bewilderment and shock on the female students.

“Whoa…” A girl with shoulder length dark blue hair with bangs covering her left blue eye, Minato Michiru, whispered with shock and awe.

“So cool…!” Himiko muttered with utter awe and delight.  If one looked closely, they would swear they could see her pupils turn into hearts from the display of power that Izuku just unleashed.  That and the broken, bloodied finger, such things always helps too.

As for Deimos.  If it weren’t for the rock covering his mouth, he would had have massive grin on his face.  Looking at the tracker, it showed 4472 meters, the second highest record from the ball throw.  Nothing would beat that infinity score from Uraraka, but massively impressive all the same.

Izuku gritted his teeth, breathing in while ignoring the pulsing pain from his broken finger.  Turning to Deimos, the dark green haired teen managed to smile, even if it looked wobbly a bit from the hurt.

“Deimos-Sensei… I can still move!” Izuku exclaimed, lifting his fist with the broken finger his way.

Deimos met the boy’s gaze with his own, an expression of approval and excitement visible even with the difficultly from the stone that covered half his face.

‘A BIT MORE LATER’

Eventually, the rest of the students finished the ball throw test.  The next three, which consisted of sit ups, seated toe-touched and a simple distance run, everyone did well in from what Deimos observed.  They definitely went all in with those ones, doing as much as they could if how sweaty they all were and how a few like Ashido, Tokage, Komori, Rosales and Tsunotori were lying face down on the ground in an attempt for the ground to cool them were any indication.  It was kind of funny to see.

But now, it was time for the results.  Everyone recovering from what they were doing previously and were now standing upward, prepared for whatever may come next.  A few like Ochako, Himiko, Itsuka and Reiko standing near Izuku, who despite standing all couldn’t stop the redness of his cheeks from how close they were.  Not that he minded, it was actually quite comforting in a way.

Deimos stood before them all, prepared to give them the results.

“Alright, time for the results.  Before than however…” Deimos started to say, drawing confusion and a little worry from the students.  Facing directly at them, the substitute homeroom teacher gaze at them all.

Then, his gaze soften along with a bit of amusement visible on his face.

“You all can rest easy, none of you will be transferred out.” He informed them, figuring he would inform of them right then and there.

This brought total relief from the twenty students, many barely keeping it in from screaming to the heavens with joy from this.  Ibara was shown closing her hands in a prayer of thanks to the Lord.  Ashido, Hagakure, Tokage and Ikoi gave each other high fives before owing in utter soreness.  Himiko just flat out hugged Izuku with a massive smile, causing the poor boy to go redder than a tomato with steam erupting from his head, while Ochako looked on with a blank expression from this.  Itsuka looked annoyed from Himiko’s action, while Reiko and Sorana looked puzzled from the light dirty blonde girl’s act to the dark green haired boy.

“What a relief!  I thought I wasn’t going to make it!” Kinoko cried out, barely preventing herself from slumping onto the ground from the relief she had.

“I doubted he would actually go through that.  I think it was just an act to push us to do our best.” Momo told the brown haired girl, a small smile on her face.

“Oh no, I was being serious.” Deimos interjected.

That got her and the rest to freeze from this admission.  Slowly turning towards their teacher again, Deimos waited until they were all paying full attention before continuing.

“When I made that statement, I had full intent of following up through with it if I believed you weren’t giving it your all and were slacking off.  I didn’t because none of you did that.  Each and every one of you pushed yourself as hard as you could, while accepting what worked better for you and what didn’t in these tests.  Whether due to lacking certain skills and abilities, lacking certain resources for your quirk to work,” Deimos shifted his gaze at Himiko at that one, who simply waved back adorably.  Refocusing on them all he pushed onward, “Or from simple inexperience, each of you managed to still give it your all and did whatever you could to prove that you have the drive to keep going no matter what.  That’s a trait heroes need more than ever, to give it their all beyond Plus Ultra.  Especially nowadays ever since the Calamity.”

That got the students to freeze for a moment, before a more somber expression took hold of them all.  Seeing this, Deimos’s own expression softened.

“Yes, the Calamity from eight years ago.  It reached everywhere, affected everyone.  I’m sure everyone here has been affected by it one way or another, right?” Deimos asked yet his tone was calmer.  No one spoke, but the silence and the looks they had was more than enough to answer that question.  Deimos didn’t push on that, continuing onward, “So many lives lost, including many that gave their lives to fight back and put a stop to it once and for all.  But even with that behind us, the world is still reeling from what was inflicted, and there are many who would see it continue to hurt and burn.  It’s up to us to honor those who gave everything they had and continue striving to build a better world where everyone can live free from loss and strife.”

Deimos ended it there, pulling up a flat device that put up a hologram of the scores the students had.

“Anyway, here’s your results.” He told them, snapping them out of the somber mood and getting them to look up at the final scores.

20. Tooru Hagakure

Izuku widened his eyes in utter surprised.  He didn’t think he would react that high up on the score board!  He honestly thought he would be on the lower end.  Tooru meanwhile let out a big breath of relief and nervousness, utterly thankful that she was still able to appease Deimos despite being last.  Both Mina and Setsuna giving her pats on the back for encouragement, ignoring their soreness from the exercises.

“Alright then,” Deimos started to speak again, dismissing the hologram and putting the flat device back into his pocket.  Facing the students once again, the substitute homeroom teacher spoke, “There you have it.  Return to your classroom to get your things and be sure to look at the syllabus and maps in your desks.  You’re free to explore the school if you desire to get a familiarity of the place.  Other than that, you’re free to go for the day.  Before that though, Midoriya.”

“Huh?” Izuku replied confused, until Deimos walked over and handed him a slip to the Infirmary Office.

“Head to Recovery Girl and the others for your finger.  If you thought today was tough, this was only the first step out of many.  Be prepared for it.” Deimos told him, giving him a pat on the shoulder and if he were capable of it, he would grin at him.

With that, Deimos turned and made his leave, leaving the students behind.

The rest remained in their spots for a few more moments before Izuku figured he would go to the Infirmary Office as instructed for his finger.  Ochako offered to go with him, as did Himiko, Itsuka and Reiko.  Crimson once more flooding his cheeks, he agreed and the group was off, leaving the others to return to their classroom.

‘LATER’

When the group of five returned to the classroom to get their things, they were surprised to see the rest of their classmates still present.  Mina was the first to notice their return, a grin growing on her face.

“You’re back!” She greeted them, running over to them with her grin still on her face while grabbing the attention of everyone else.  Arriving in front of Izuku, she wouldn’t deny how adorable it was seeing the boy’s face grow red from her presence in front of him, “Is your finger all good now?”

Despite the redness of his cheeks, Izuku managed to nod back, lifting said finger up showing it fully healed.

“Yeah, Recovery Girl was able to take care of it.” Izuku informed her, able to stop himself from stuttering too much from the cute pink girl before him.

“She’s a lot shorter than I thought she would be.  And old too.” Himiko admitted, figuring with a hero name like that would imply her being young and not look like an old lady.  She should rename her hero name to Recovery Granny or something, Himiko figured that would fit better.

“I don’t think you should be saying that.” Ochako told her, figuring it was impolite.  Himiko simply shrugged, not getting what the dig deal was.  In her eyes, she was just being honest.

“So, you’re all good then?” Minato questioned from her spot near her desk, getting Izuku to look her way as he nodded again in confirmation.

“Great!  Since we’re all together, we should go hang out!” Setsuna spoke up with a grin, getting everyone to look at her, “We’re classmates now, and what better way to get to know each other better than grabbing a bite to eat and doing something fun!”

“Only if Izuku comes too.” Himiko stated, grabbing a hold of his left arm and latching onto it, causing the dark green haired boy to go nuclear red while gawking from how she casually used his first name.  She didn’t noticed how Ochako and Itsuka slightly glared at her while Reiko looked puzzled.

“Duh!  I said everyone, that includes him.” Setsuna told her, already telling that the light dirty blonde hair girl had it bad for the boy.  Not like she could blame her; he was quite interesting.  And adorable on top of it.

“I’m for it!  Would love to hang out!” Pony spoke with a big smile, her accent in broken Japanese but was still able to get across to the rest.

“I believe it would be good to become more acquainted.” Reiko joined in after getting over her previous puzzlement, liking the chance to make new friends.

Izuku while still blushing red from Himiko holding onto his arm and trying to ignore how nice and soft she felt, managed to form another smile, liking the idea to hang out with his class.

“Yeah, I would love to come along!  If none of you mind, would it be okay if I asked more about your quirks?  It’s been a hobby of mine since I was little.” Izuku managed to answer and ask his own question, and he didn’t even stutter that much from embarrassment or nervousness this time!  He would have pulled his notebook out, but hard to do that with the cute girl still latching onto his arm.

“I’m curious to learn more about all of your quirks too,” Tomomi admitted, wanting to learn more about the abilities of her classmates and hopefully friends.  She turned to look at Himiko who blinked from the look she was getting, “Like you, Toga.  I don’t think we saw you use yours during the physical assessment right?”

“Right, Deimos-Sensei mentioned you not having the resources needed to use it.  What is your quirk if I’m allowed to ask?” Momo asked her, curious herself of what her classmate was capable of.

Blinking from the question and attention, Himiko smiled as she let go of Izuku to properly answer.  The dark green haired teen calming down now she wasn’t holding onto him… yet couldn’t help but feel a bit disappointed, but that thought made him blush hard again.  Luckily no one noticed it however, more focus on Himiko.

“Call me Himiko, but my quirk is called Transform!  I can take the appearance of anyone who I consume the blood of!” Himiko revealed to them, her grin still on her face.  A few of the girls looked surprise at this, while Izuku gained an excited expression.

“That’s so cool!  With a quirk like that you could easily infiltrate enemy groups and gather information all without anyone every knowing!  I wonder-?” Izuku’s words was quickly lost while he pulled out a notebook and starting writing down in it, muttering to himself all the while.  He didn’t notice Himiko’s own cheeks growing red from hearing his compliment and how he thought her quirk was cool.  A softer smile of genuine happiness forming on her face.

“Where did he get that notebook?” Itsuka questioned with a raised eyebrow.  His backpack and stuff were still at his desk, so where did he pull that out from?  Sadly, her question went ignored by everyone.

Still, seeing him looking so excited and focus like this did make him look cuter than normal.  The orange haired girl blinked from this, wondering where that thought came from.

“Oh, I thought your quirk had something do with an animal like a cat.” Tooru admitted, considering she could see the slit-like irises and the sharp canine teeth the other girl had.

“Isn’t that your quirk?” Yui Kodai asked towards Mikami, speaking for the first time that the others realized since they met each other today.

“Nope!  Cheetah, similar but different.” Mikami told her, putting up her furry paw-like hands up, showing off the golden-brown and black spotted fur color while her tail moved happily behind her.

“That explains it then,” Tsuyu stated regarding Himiko’s own quirk.  The frog girl wondering if her quirk involving blood causes her to have an interest in blood in general.  Would explain why she thought Midoriya shattering his limbs making them all broken and bloodied would be cool.  Turning to Sorana who noticed the look she was getting, the dark green haired girl spoke again, “What about yours, Rosales?  I don’t think we saw you use it during the assessment either.”

“Oh yeah, what is your quirk?  Is it something like Himiko’s?” Ochako asked, curious as well while everyone focus their attention toward the light beige haired girl.

Said girl looked taken back from being put on the spotlight like this, a small sense of nervousness creeping onto her.  Slight embarrassment forming on her face, she refuse to leave them hanging.

“No, it’s not like Himiko’s… it’s not like anything because…,” Sorana took a breather before she would continue, slight nervousness in her voice and expression, “I don’t have one.”

Some blinked from this while a few widened their eyes in surprise.  Izuku especially, looking at the girl with wide eyes.  Sorana’s quirkless, just how he used to be?

Moments passed while looks of impressiveness and grins form on the other girl’s faces, while Sorana only felt a bit more embarrassed with each passing moment.  Luckily, the silence would be broken first by a soft smiling Izuku facing directly towards the girl.

“That’s really cool.” Izuku told her, his tone soft but showed nothing but honesty and awe.

Him having such an expression and saying those like that got a massive blush to form on Sorana’s face.  She turned away, yet it didn’t stop the blush or embarrassment she was feeling, nor the nice feeling that flustered in her chest from Izuku looking at and thinking of her in such a way.

“Yeah, that’s totally radical!” Camie spoke up, walking over and giving her a pat on the back.  Others smiled or nodded in agreement which only made the light beige haired girl even more embarrassed.

Thankfully for her, the attention would be moved away as Ibara went to speak up.

“Perhaps we can continue our discussion once we go find somewhere to eat?  I think it’s best we go ahead and head out.” The Christian girl shared with the rest, figuring that would be the best thing to do if they were going to hang out.

“Oh!  I know a great place we can dine at!  I’ll treat!” Momo offered, excitement in her eyes from being able to go and eat out with friends.  The sparkling eyed expression she had, Izuku couldn’t help but find it adorable… which got him to blush hard and embarrassed from thinking that.

“Then what are we waiting for?  Let’s go!” Mina exclaimed, rushing over and grabbing Izuku’s right arm with a big smile on her face.  She took satisfaction from how the boy became beet red in the face from her action, finding it way to adorable.  She knew she was going to have so much fun with him.

“Yeah, let’s go!” Himiko cheered out too, latching herself onto Izuku’s other arm which only made Izuku go even redder with steam erupting from his head.  Both Himiko and Mina didn’t notice how Ochako gawked at their action, didn’t notice how Itsuka gained a glare of annoyance from them, and once more Reiko looking confuse while Sorano looked annoyed from their act too.

Nevertheless, the two girls dragged Midoriya and themselves out of the classroom, with everyone else following suit.  Yui and Ibara make sure to grab Izuku’s and Himiko’s stuff for them since those were still at their desks unclaimed.  With that, all twenty students headed out.

Izuku, despite his complete embarrassment from the two girls still latching onto him and dragging him along, couldn’t help but have a big smile on his face.  He was now at U.A, he now had new friends, and despite it all he hoped to get closer to each and every one of them further.  Unbeknownst to him, the rest had similar thoughts, hoping to become great friends and stick together for the rest of their time at U.A. High.

All of them couldn’t wait for what the future may hold.

Notes:

And there you have it! One shot done. As I stated before, this can easily become a full blown story in the future, but right now I’m content with what I’ve done.

Also holy crap writing the quirk assessment was difficult. How do people manage to rewrite this in all sorts of ways in different stories so easy? Rewriting an event and scene from canon is hard, but hopefully it was still fun to read.

But yeah, as you all saw, there are differences aside from just 1-A being mostly girls except for Izuku. Even Himiko is here as a hero in training and not a villain! Sure, that concept isn’t new, there’s like a million stories out there where Himiko isn’t a villain, but yeah she’s here and working to become a hero. Still has a few screws loose though, but overall she’s on the side of good! I know her and Camie being in 1-A might be a stretch due to being a year older than the rest, but I figured it was still fine.

And yes, Deimos is inspired by the character of the same name from Madness Combat.

Now, for the original female characters in the class. Even if I do come back to this and expand it to a full story, I figured I would share and explain the quirks they have in case anyone was more curious of what they could do. Except for Sorona, since she’s quirkless. But here are the other three’s abilities!

Tomomi Saeko’s Quirk: Demon Visage. This allows her to change her appearance to take on the characteristics of a demon, giving her a major boost in all aspect of her physical prowess. This includes bat-like wings which increases her speed and gives her access of flight. Scales covering her hands and forearms, the sides of her face, chest and stomach, and her legs. Horns that emerge from her head, her ears become pointed like an elf’s and sharp claws form on her hands. Her hair also grows longer and more wilder. The quirk also grants her darkness-like energy she can unleash upon her foes. In short, think of Demon Take-Over Magic that Mirajane from Fairy Tail uses.

Mikami Ikoi’s Quirk: Cheetah. This gives her the characteristics and abilities to that of a cheetah. This includes heighten senses, impressive endurance, incredible speed, and claws that she use to cut through anything and anyone. Think of it like Nakanishi’s cheetah abilities from Killing Bites (I will admit I haven’t watch or read it yet, but it did inspire Mikami’s appearance to an extent and her quirk. Plus, I just wanted another animal theme quirk for a character to use.)

Minato Michiru’s Quirk: Adam’s Ale. This allows her to produce, control and manipulate water. Through this, she can use it in all sorts of ways such as producing blades of water, unleashing large waves of power and force, and can trap others in mini prisons made of water. She can even turn herself into water rendering any physical assault ineffective as well as traverse and breath underwater, though this takes far more effort for her to maintain. In short, think of the Water Magic that Juvia from Fairy Tail uses.

There you all have it. What did you all think? Good? Bad? Want me to kill myself? Let me know.

See you all next time, whenever that will be.
