Notes:

Hey!

Just a disclaimer that I am no expert on the Star Wars universe - nor on how to write anything basically. Therefore it is highly possible that this fan fiction sucks!
I wrote it for myself and just figured it couldn't hurt to publish it, even if nobody reads it.
Leave comments and kudos, if you feel like it, but please have mercy on my poor ego.

Thank you for choosing to read my story. Hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it :)

Chapter 1: Well, this is inconvenient

Chapter Text

"Hey, Betty, copy these security videos in your system and send them to the boss, please. Go home, I'll be there as soon as I can. I've got an idea."

Your loyal BD droid exited through the air vents as you hid in the shadows.

The steps grew closer to the control center, so you slid out the door, but as you rounded the corner a Naboolian guard stopped you.

"Halt right there. Who are you? What are you doing here?"

"Oh I'm sorry, sir," you channeled your inner bimbo, "I got lost in this maze of hallways. I was just trying to find my way out, but lucky me I found you. Could you help me out?" You looked up at him innocently.

"I can't let you leave, ma'am," the man grabbed your arm.

"What are you doing? Don't touch me! Let me go!" Your pitch got higher - a real damsel in distress you were. Your shouting attracted the attention of a couple of men from the control center.

"What is going on here, soldier?" A tall man with an eye patch rounded the corner, followed by a familiar mop of red hair. "Y/n?" The latter muttered looking at the scene confusedly - shit, this is inconvenient.

"Sir, I found her wandering the hall. Should I bring her to the cells?" The young guard asked while cuffing you.

"No, she's harmless," the Jedi interrupted, "I'll question her myself." He gripped your bicep and turned you around, to walk you down the corridor.

As soon as you entered the elevator, the redhead pushed you against the wall, and you yelped, as your head hit the glass. "What in the universe are you doing?" He gritted the words through his teeth.

"Well," your words were strained, "it's nice to see you too, Obi-Wan."

"It's Master Kenobi," he intimated with a furrowed brow, "and again what are you doing here?"

"Just taking a stroll, you know I like to explore new areas of the city."

"You really want me to believe that? You gotta try harder."

"It's boring in the lower levels." You clenched your eyes, grazing the bump on the back of your head with your fingers.

That answer only angered him more, and he took a menacing step forward. When your sight focused again, you saw his stormy blue eyes looking at you intently, as if he were trying to peek into your mind - wait a minute...

"Obi-Wan, if you wanted a kiss you could have just asked, you know," you whispered, amused at his Jedi antics, and that seemed to throw him off. You smirked knowing he was so easy to play with. He quickly took a couple steps back, with a horrified expression and red ears.

"Master Kenobi," he sighed as his gaze wandered around the small space. You wondered if all Jedi were this easily put off by some innocuous flirting. Maybe being cooped up in that stupid temple all the time makes them a bit more socially awkward.

In the deadly silence of the elevator, a loud ding resounded as you arrived at the right floor. Kenobi pushed you into the room and walked off to a younger, unrulier version of him.

"Captain Typho has more than enough men downstairs. No assassin would try that way." Your captor discarded his robe on the sofa, and you sat beside it, manspreading a bit.

"So what about her, Master?"

"She's Miss Y/n L/n." Ever the proper gentleman.

"And what is her business here?" The young man asked with his hand resting on his weapon.

"She's not a killer, Anakin," Obi-Wan replied, "she's just an idiot."

You cleared your throat, "you know I'm right here, don't you?" Your indignation amused the older Jedi.

"Any activity up here?" The master whispered to his apprentice, ignoring your quip.

"Quiet as a tomb. I don't like just waiting here for something to happen to her."

A bleep resounded in the room. "What's going on?" Obi-Wan asked.

"Well she covered the cameras. I don't think she likes me watching her."

"What is she thinking?"

"Can you really blame her?" You asked them, raising an eyebrow at them as Kenobi shushed you - stupid men.

"She programmed R2 to warn us if there is an intruder."

"There are many other ways to kill a senator."

"I know, but we also wanna catch this assassin, don't we, master?"

"You're using her as bait." It wasn't a question.

"It was her idea," the Padawan defended, stepping back from Obi-Wan. "Don't worry, no harm will come to her. I can sense everything going on in that room. Trust me."

"Perv," you muttered, earning a scolding eye from the guy.

"It's too risky. Besides, your senses aren't that attuned, my young apprentice."

"And yours are?"

"Possibly."

You laughed at the scene, unable to hold it in anymore. "It seems your young apprentice knows how to push your buttons, Obi-Wan."

"Who even are you?" The Padawan asked.

"Oh, just an old friend."

"We're not friends," Kenobi spat, standing in front of you.

"Ouch! Thanks for the clarification," you furrowed your brows, yet still managed to sound humorous.

It's true that when you two first met, you were more like foes. He kept on getting in your way and you in his. However, over time you imagined this feud had evolved into an enemies to friends trope. His tone though suggested otherwise, and you won't deny - only to yourself - it saddened you a bit. But no matter, you weren't about to show it, so you swung your legs over the coffee table and plastered on a smile that you knew annoyed the Jedi Master to no end.

"You know, I thought we were past this rivalry. Honestly I consider you my best friend, Obi-W-."

"Enough of this," he interrupted in a venomous tone, "what were you doing downstairs?"

You opened your mouth to reply, but the man interrupted you again. "Don't lie" - at least he knows you.

"I wasn't about to lie, for your information," you lied as Obi-Wan raised an eyebrow. "It's really offensive that you'd think that of me. Just because I live on the lower levels doesn't mean that you can just be rude to me!"

"Oh, don't tell me now that you're just an innocent bystander of the crimes going on in lower Coruscant." He rolled his eyes, but sensed a strange feeling coming from you as you spoke the next words.

"You don't know me. You have no idea what my job is, and you've never even stopped to ask, you know."

"Well, then enlighten me. What is it that you do?" - YES! Your diversion was working.

"I work for intelligence."

"Are you delusional?"

"Your lack of faith in me is really hurting my pride, you know."

"Come on, what is your real job?"

"Very well, I am a doctor," you stated plainly, but after one moment a rambunctious laugh erupted from the Jedi Master's chest.

"The other one was more believable, to be honest."

"You really are an arse, Master Kenobi." You truly were offended now, and it showed, so Obi-Wan left you brooding on the couch, mumbling to himself - "why did you always have to be so difficult?!"

"I've never seen that face," Anakin motioned to the sneer on his master's face.

"She gets on my nerves," he sighed, "you look tired."

"I don't sleep well anymore."

"Because of your mother?" Anakin nodded, "I don't know why I keep dreaming about her."

"Dreams pass in time."

"I'd much rather dream about Padmè. Just being around her again is intoxicating."

"Be mindful of your thoughts, Anakin, they betray you. You've made a commitment to the Jedi Order, a commitment not easily broken. And don't forget she's a politician, she's not to be trusted."

"She's not like the others in the Senate, Master."

Their voices became distant as they moved outside on the balcony, so you stopped listening in. Maybe it hadn't been such a good idea, allowing yourself to get captured. Not in the light of the conversations you had with someone, who up until that night you had considered possibly a friend.

Of course he didn't feel the same. He was an important Jedi on the upper levels. Despite the many times you had seen him around diners and bars in lower Coruscant, he apparently held the same contempt towards you as all the other asshole politicians. Perhaps the two categories - Jedis and diplomats - weren't that different after all. You felt kind of stupid, actually. How could you have thought any differently?!
