Chapter Text
As the cold November weather made itself felt, Blue and her daughter Maria went out to dinner to celebrate Maria's 18th birthday. During the dinner, mother and daughter had a better and more fun time than ever before... After a night of dancing, chatting and laughter, Blue didn't take her car because they had been drinking alcohol and they chose to take a cab to home. The first step in a long journey of a case and pain began with a cab ride.
Maria leaned her head on her mother's shoulder, her eyes closed themselves because she was tired. Blue had a feeling of anxiety that she didn't know why. The driver was laughing and making a loud phone call on a small gray cell phone. Blue took her daughter's hand and kissed her forehead, breathing deeply.
"Maria, you know I love you, don't you?"
Maria smiled sleepily and squeezed her mother's hand, murmuring yes, I know.
And suddenly a strong light caught both of their eyes and a huge crash was felt.
When Blue opened her eyes, the blue and red colors were mixed together and there were screams and whispers of concern. She could see two young women but she couldn't move, and both young women confirmed this: "They say the woman is paralyzed... Her daughter is dead..."
Blue couldn't feel any physical sensation, but she felt a burning in her heart. The glass shards around her were stinging her hand and she could see the blood... Maria was stuck between the bars on the opposite road away from her... When the paramedics saw Blue's effort, they tried to stop her. Blue could only cry, she wanted to reach her daughter but she couldn't... The paramedic held the young blonde woman's hand tightly.
"Please... I beg you, take me to my daughter... Is she breathing? Is she okay? Maria, can you hear me? Is the driver okay? Where are we? My head hurts so much... My body... My body is like ice... I can't feel it... Is this normal?"
The paramedic woman couldn't answer any of these questions but she had to calm Blue down. She held Blue's hand tightly and smiled.
When the stretcher arrived for Blue, Maria was taken out from between the bars and placed in the body bag... Blue was struggling but she couldn't move, she was so close to her daughter that she could touch her if she reached out and yet there was a gap between her and her daughter... And her daughter was no longer in this world in spirit, how could a whole life fit in a black bag.
November 20, 2018
Pearl and her fiancé Adam had decided to celebrate their anniversary with a dinner out. For the first time since the death of her husband, Pearl was in a relationship in which she was safe and in which she could trust herself. They were not yet married, but they had a relationship on that level. Pearl had not chosen to be a mother, but she loved children, from a distance. Adam was a man who wanted to be a father. Even though she was past biological age, he pressed her with the options of surrogacy or adoption. But for Pearl, her decision were stable... She respected motherhood and those who were mothers, but taking responsibility for a child wasn’t for her. It shouldn't be a scale of love, and she and her ex-husband agreed on that because he had never been a man who wanted to be a father. But Adam wanted to give Pearl a piece of himself, as if he was dying tomorrow.
On the way to the celebration dinner, part of the road was silent because the fire of the argument had not been extinguished, and it was Adam who broke the silence.
"It's ridiculous for us to go to this dinner right now. You don't think about a life with me. What are we celebrating then, what is it between us?"
Pearl was bewildered and very tired of this argument
"Adam, you're really being overly and unnecessarily touchy right now, which you know I don't say that to anyone because I think it's hurtful. Just because I don't choose to be a mother doesn't mean that I don't love you, that I don't want to spend a life with you, that I don't love making love with you, kissing you, going to the movies with you, telling you about my day after work. I respect that you want to be a father, but I'm not that person. I don't want to bring a child into this life or raise a child, I just don't have those feelings in me.
Adam asked “What are we gonna do, Pearl? We're at a dead-end, I want to be a father and I want you to be the baby’s mom.”
Before he could finish his sentence, a car coming from the right hit their vehicle, sending them tumbling down a long cliff.
Pearl opened her eyes and saw her lover Adam lying next to her in a pool of blood.
Pearl was in good condition, she only had a severe pain in her head but she could move. She crawled out of the car, from the outside it looked shattered, when she looked inside she wondered how she had gotten out of here because there was not even a finger's distance left. Adam's eyes were closed and he was not responding to the voice. Pearl looked around and remembered her phone in her purse. She was calm but still like a bomb waiting to explode, she was conscious and knew she had to save Adam. But she stopped for a moment, she was in shock, she sat down and started crying. Now she couldn't move, she was out of breath, she was having a panic attack. She saw a middle-aged woman walking her dog up the cliff approaching them and started yelling for help. The woman didn't hear at first but finally stopped at Pearl's last scream. Pearl was trying to explain the situation but she was shaking and couldn't choose the words, she understood the situation and went to her phone and called the ambulance.
September 13, 2024
6 years later, Blue agreed to receive physical therapy with the help of her best friend Linda. For 6 years, she did not communicate with anyone and did not leave the house unless it’s necessary. These reasons were limited to doctor visits, routine shopping and going to the pharmacy. And after her second surgery, in 2020, she was supposed to start physical therapy. She had avoided this process for four years, but the night she collapsed at home, she had to accept it under the compelling pressure of Linda and her doctor. Although everything seemed to have returned to normal since the accident, physically Blue saw a woman in the mirror who could not use her right arm and who had lost her daughter. She was somehow able to carry on, but the fact that Maria was no longer alive was too much for her. She had accepted it, but acceptance is one of the things that comes with the grieving process, but it doesn't mean that the grieving is over, it just means that life goes on. Maria's father, Hassan, continued to blame her during this period, despite the fact that he had been married three times after his divorce with Blue, he easily blamed the death of his daughter on Blue and accused her of failing both in marriage and motherhood.
Blue's phone rang while she was watching Succession, a successful drama series on television, and it was her friend Linda who is calling.
"Roman and Gerri are about to make love over the phone and it better be worth the interruption."
"Yes, I love the show and the couple too, but now you have to pay attention to me. I made your physical therapy appointment, we'll be there tomorrow at 11 o'clock, I'm driving you there. I'll do anything with you but you have to accept that you're lazy, I love you bye bye"
Blue rolled her eyes, hung up the phone and continued to eat her snack and watch the show and the couple she loved.
When she arrived at the hospital for physical therapy, she waited in the waiting room. Linda h ad to go back to work, so she returned after dropping Blue off at the hospital. As Blue waited alone, she and Pearl locked eyes. Pearl was a beautiful, attractive blonde middle-aged woman who had managed to attract Blue's attention. It was obvious that something was wrong with her foot, she was walking with a limp, she slowly sat down next to Blue, they locked eyes again and smiled at each other. Blue broke the silen ce.
"Hello... I want to tell you something, if you don't mind me saying, I don't know if anyone has said it before, but if you watch Succession, you look a lot like the character Gerri Kellman..."
"Can we say that Gerri and Marcia are together again in another universe?"
"I hope Logan doesn't come back to haunt us."
They laughed
"So you like the show"
"Yes, I love it, it makes me happy to be compared to my favorite character Gerri, a beautiful and strong woman"
"Yes, she really is, I like her a lot. I was happy to be compared to Marcia because she's my favorite character too. She's a cool woman.
(at the same time)
"and sexy"
They laughed again. Pearl smiled. “I think we can say that about both women.”
Blue smiled.
"If we're like them, that means we're like them, right?"
Pearl was embarrassed and smiled and tucked her blonde hair behind her ears.
"I guess so, yes, thank you."
"Thank you too."
Thus began a solid relationship between two women. As they got to know each other, neither of them could believe the wind of coincidences they experienced. It was as if God had somehow intended for them to meet from the very beginning. Both of them had the pain of death burning in their hearts, both of them had saved the people they loved, even though their attributes were different. Even if now they thought they would only heal physically, their souls would heal with each other.

When Blue came home, she felt a different excitement, a different stirring inside her. After taking a shower, she went to the kitchen to prepare dinner and was startled by the sound of her phone ringing, the notification screen showed a new message, it was from Pearl.
"Nice to meet you, I was very happy with my doctor and I think we have the same doctor. I wanted to ask you how you are doing, I hope all is well? -Pearl"
A warm smile formed on Blue's face. Love was not an emotion she could imagine right now, but she attributed her happiness to the excitement of finding a new friend, a new companion. Her friend Linda came for dinner and they were eating together in silence and Linda broke the silence
"Blue, I notice you've been grinning into space for half an hour... Obviously the physical therapy went well."
Blue was startled by Linda's voice and recovered, but she couldn't wipe the smile off her face.
"Oh... Yes, yes, it went very well... My doctor is a very nice man, I'm satisfied with his work, it looks like we'll get along... And something happened..."
Linda had a wicked smile on her face
"Yes, I'm listening."
Blue understood her friend's intentions from the way she looked at her and nudged her with her arm, laughing.
"Don't get any fantasies in your head, it's nothing like that... I met someone, a woman. Her name is Pearl. She looks just like Gerri from Succession... She had such beautiful eyes Linda... She has a very different energy... I feel like her friendship will be good for me.”
Linda stared at her friend for a while
"Normally I would make jokes about being jealous, but this doesn't seem like a friendship that would make me jealous."
Blue's wine stuck in her throat and she coughed for a while, wiping her mouth with her napkin and looking at Linda with a meaningless look.
"I'm sorry, what do you mean? What do you mean it's not about friendship? What could happen?"
Linda answered without thinking
"Love..."
Blue felt her face flush, normally she would deny it and get defensive, but this time she didn't feel like it, she kept quiet and smiled, maybe she felt it was time to listen to the side of her that deserved happiness
She picked up her phone and wrote back to Pearl.
"Hi Pearl... I am glad to get your message, it was a pleasure to meet you (and Mrs. Gerri Kellman). I was also very pleased with my doctor, I hope you are well too. I must say that I am excited about our encounter today... It made me happy to get to know you… See you soon. -Blue."
