Snow fell from the sparkling night sky, laying a gentle blanket over the city. The full moon glittered, small stars coming to life beside it. It was so beautiful, yet it was so freezing. It was the type of cold that would gnaw at every exposed part of your body and freeze your fingers to the bone.
Mikaela sighed into his scarf, trailing the group in front of him. His fingers hurt and he desperately wanted to get some shut-eye, but he had to stay strong for Yuichiro, his “princess” as Ferid would deem him. Mikaela huffed as he reminisced on the memory.
“Shinoa!!! Wait up, idiot!” A blonde girl, Mitsuba, yelled out. Her boots crunched against the pavement, and so did everyone else’s as they followed suit. Mikaela had no choice but to go after them.
“The hotel is right around the corner Mitsu~ It’s no big deal!” A giggle came from Shinoa as she turned her head to look back and smirk deviously. Everyone else sighed exasperatedly in response.
The “telephone pole” known as Kimizuki piped up, “That doesn’t mean you start running at full speed.” A shorter brown-haired boy, Yoichi, nodded in response, smiling playfully.
“I agree too!” Yuichiro yelled even though he was still catching his breath, his green eyes were filled with determination as always. Suddenly, his gaze turned to the blonde a few feet behind him, “Don’t you, Mika?”
Mikaela nodded, thankful the bottom half of his face was obscured with a scarf. Even though he’d known Yuichiro since they were children, his face still turned scarlet. It was embarrassing, to say the least.
Shinoa sighed, feigning distraught, “You guys are such party poopers~ I was just trying to get us to the hotel quicker!”
“Sure you were…” Mitsuba mumbled under her breath, giving Shinoa a dirty look.
They all rounded the corner, the hotel finally coming into view. It wasn’t great, but it wasn’t too horrible either. Some of the lights were shut off and the walls were a little moldy. However, they couldn’t really afford anything better.
“It’s not that bad,” Yoichi smiled softly, his teeth chattering. It was so cold his breath was visible when he spoke.
“Sure it isn’t… There better not be any cockroaches…”
“Oh? Is it not good enough for the Sanguu’s liking?”
“As if you aren’t a Hiiragi!”
The idle chatter of the group died down as they entered the lobby. Mikaela had entered last, thankful that none of the group members spotted the disgusted look in his eyes as he looked around the hotel. The curtains on the windows were ripped and the floor was wet…
“So… who’s rooming with whom?” Shinoa chuckled, trying to break the awkward silence, “I’m with Mitsu~!”
Mitsuba scoffed in response, her cheeks pink, “Fine…”
“I’ll go with Kimizuki,” Yoichi paused, growing a little embarrassed, turning to look up at the taller boy, “If that’s alright?”
Kimizuki nodded, almost too enthusiastically, “It’s either you, the idiot, or the idiot’s quiet friend.”
“I’m not an idiot!” Yuichiro shouted, glaring at Kimizuki, calming down when the person at the check-in counter shot him a dirty look, “Whatever, I’m with Mika.”
They inevitably checked in, lucky that all of their rooms were neighboring each other. The hallway leading up to their rooms was shabby like the rest of the place. The walls had cracks in them and the carpet grew more moldy as they kept walking. Though, Mikaela’s heart was hammering in his chest. All he could really think about was sharing a room with Yuichiro.
Sure, they would have separate beds, but the rooms looked freakishly small. He may have been able to sleep near Yuichiro, even in the same bed as kids, but not now. Mikaela doubted he would be able to fall asleep with such a cute boy so close to him.
The two boys bid the others goodbye as their room happened to be at the end of the hall. It was even more cracked and run-down than earlier… Mikaela was horrified to see what their room looked like and he was sure Yuichiro was too.
“Moment of truth!” Yuichiro smiled playfully, looking at Mikaela, “You have the key right?”
“I do,” Mikaela mumbled, finally speaking as he fished a rusty key out of his pocket. It was just as bad as the rest of the place, he didn’t know if it would even work. Nonetheless, he placed the key in the lock and twisted it open. The door immediately gave in.
The room was extremely small, there was only a single table and bed… Mikaela’s eyes widened, pink coating his cheeks as he stared at it. He was going to share a bed with Yuichiro…
Yuichiro smiled awkwardly, though his cheeks had a similar pink hue adorning them, “It’s not a big deal, we did this all the time when we were kids.”
“You’re right, Yuu-Chan,” Mikaela mumbled, trying his best not to trip over his words as he tossed his scarf onto the bedside table. The bed itself wasn’t all too big either and that sent another electric shock down Mikaela’s spine.
They were silent for a few seconds, standing there awkwardly as they took off their coats before Yuichiro decided to plop himself down on the bed.
“Mika! You should come here! It’s actually really good compared to the rest of the hotel,” Yuichiro scooted to the side a little, patting the empty space.
Mikaela didn’t respond for a few seconds, shying away, “It’s fine Yuu-Chan… The bed is small, I can manage with the floor.”
Mikaela yelped as he suddenly got dragged onto the bed by Yuichiro. He was now face to face with him and his cheeks immediately turned scarlet. Yuichiro giggled, resting the side of his face on one of the pillows, facing Mikaela. His green eyes were glittering beautifully.
“Yuu-Chan…” Mikaela mumbled softly, staring at Yuichiro. He felt so safe in his presence, sighing as he realized that he was overreacting earlier for nothing.
Yuichiro smiled at Mikaela, before pulling the thin blanket up to their necks, shivering, “It’s still cold… Can I come closer, Mika?” His voice was uncharacteristically soft as he asked the question.
Mikaela nodded softly, blushing feverishly as Yuichiro approached.
Yuichiro softly shut his eyes, burying his face in the taller boy’s neck, “Night, Mika.”
“Goodnight, Yuu-Chan,” Mikaela mumbled, waiting until he heard soft sleeping breaths emit from the other boy before softly wrapping his arms around him.
