Getting out of the Proposal

Summary:

What if Merida wasn't the only one that wanted out of the proposal

Work Text:

Macintosh caught the eye of Macguffin, cocking his head towards one of the rooms.

The larger boy seemed confused but he got the idea and followed, politely excusing himself from his father's company as he bragged about him.

Macintosh grabbed a hold of Wee Dingwall's ear, almost getting bit, but sticking with it because this was important!

"Okay, I don't want to marry the princess." he said right away as soon as the door was shut.

"Wha-why?" Macguffin said, at least that's what they thought he said, his accent and dialect were foreign to the other two. But it didn't matter.

"Because she hates me and I have thousands and thousands of admirers back home, I don't need that! So I'll purposefully fail..."

Macguffin babbled something, shaking his head and Macintosh face palmed. "You don't want to marry her either huh?"

He was probably explaining why but Macintosh turned to Dingwall because this was important!

Dingwall blinked slowly for a second and then shook his head. "Too young." He said simply.

"Great so none of us want to marry her...what do we do?"

"Tell her." Macguffin said haltingly.

"Absolutely not, she must love the idea of marrying someone!" Macintosh yelled. "Or else she would have convinced her mother to call this off!"

"We could...tell our fathers?" Dingwall suggested.

"Yeah great, tell them we don't want to be king, they will be quietly disappointed but all in all proud of us for being honest."

"Really?" Macguffin asked.

"No you half wit! We're all going to be dead if we don't at least pretend to compete!"

"What if none of us win?"

"We'll have to do it again."

"I have an idea." Macguffin said.

"Great, we're all ears." Macintosh was the leader of this meeting thing, and he had no plan other than forefeit to someone who actually wanted to marry her. Apparently none of them did.

"Kidnapping."

"We can't kidnap a princess!"

"No no I like that, we're make it totally legitimate with a ransom note and say we won't bring her back until the marriage is called off!" Dingwall yelled.

Macintosh just stared at him. "No."

"We could kill her." Dingwall said after a few seconds of silence.

"No!" Thankfully Macguffin was loud in his displeasure of that so Macintosh didn't have to be.

"No hear me out, we fake her death..."

"And lead to our actual deaths, not pleased." Macintosh was suddenly getting a headache. Maybe he could marry the princess, be king and she could hate him and he could have mistresses of admirers?

There was a shout as Dingwall was looking for his son.

The three boys looked at each other, all silently agreeing that if their parents found out they were together, they were dead.

"Let's just...try the no one wins strategy." Macintosh said, suddenly tired.

"I still say we could kill her." Dingwall muttered.

"Hey Macguffin." Macintosh called before the taller boy could leave.

"Sit by me at dinner?" Hey, Macintosh had no friends, he was the clan leader's son, according to his father all he needed was admirers.

The boy smiled, nodding as he said something.

If Macguffin would be his friend, he should work to understand his dialect a little better.
