Chapter Text
Nervous. That's all Taehyung can feel right this moment. Was he doing the right thing? Was he even ready for what he signed himself up for? Well, if you ask him he didn’t even think about it that much. He wasn’t convinced that he will be picked he was just giving it a shot when he was feeling bored after seeing the ad. So, when he got a call three weeks ago telling him that he was picked for the show he was two seconds away from telling them he changed his mind and didn’t want to enter the show anymore.
He stopped himself after they told him that he has a week to make up his mind and confirm that he was going to enter. He had time to think it through. At the end Baekhyun; his older brother convinced him to enter. He has been single for two years with the not so frequent hookups so what was there to lose anyway. What is the worst that could happen? Baekhyun said he was sure Taehyung would have fun and make new experience.
He wasn't sure anymore. What if all the rest were way prettier than him? What if he was the one that no one tried approaching because he’s just too ordinary? Of course he couldn’t voice out all these concerns to Baekhyun cause he would have given him a three hour lecture on self-worth and self-love. But he just couldn’t help it. He wasn’t like that in the past; he was loud, confident, carefree and the most popular in college for his bubbly personality and handsome face but after many failed relationships and all of them saying the same thing of him being ‘too much’ he slowly began building his own little shell and hiding inside it. So, can you really blame him?
Will he be able to take it or will his always self-conscious self be in the way of him taking leaps of faith?
To be honest he’s more worried about embarrassing himself. After all this was a show that will be aired one day and everyone he knows will watch.
But overthinking it right now was pointless it’s already too late now, he tells himself. Show starts tomorrow or well today and he’s well past four in the morning, alarm set three hours from now. He’s been tossing in bed for a good four hours now.
Eventually in the middle of all the overthinking he unknowingly started drifting into dreamland hugging a pillow and praying that it goes well.
He woke up twenty minutes late after snoozing his alarm for God knows how many times. He was running all around his apartment gathering his things and getting ready to leave.
He believed that he was taking too many things, worrying that he was overdoing it with three big bags and one carry on but Baekhyun reminded him that he was staying there for two whole weeks and didn’t even know what he will be needing so he pretty much packed his whole apartment.
He was told to be at the company building by 8 o’clock where he will be filming the intro interview and taking some photos before leaving to the island by a helicopter.
He arrived ten minutes early after parking his car. He then entered the building asking for Mr. Han just like the email said. He was guided to a room that read ‘Production Manager Team 2’ by the front desk lady.
The lady knocked on the door and after hearing a soft come in she opened the door for him to enter. When he entered, he was met by a middled aged man, probably mid-forties. With a grey suit and sparkly clean dress shoes. He bowed to him in greeting after meeting his eyes. “Good morning, you must be Taehyung-ssi.” He said with a warm smile. “Good morning sir, yes that’s me.” Taehyung said nervously, not knowing what to say next. Mr. Han then ushered him to take a seat infront of him.
Taehyung sat down rubbing his sweaty hands on his pants waiting for further directions. He heard a quiet chuckle from Mr. Han, “You look pretty nervous Taehyung-ssi” he stated softly. Taehyung looked up with big puppy eyes while wetting his lips; a nervous habit he picked up on way back. “Yes a bit, I really don’t know what to expect.”
“Well that what I’m here for, you really don’t need to worry about a thing. I’m going now to explain to you all the rules of the show and everything you will be doing for the next two weeks. Then I’ll answer every question that you may have left. Sounds good?”. Taehyung nodded silently.
“Great, now to start off with the main rules, further detailed rules will be stated when you get there. As you know you will not be meeting the other participants now you will all meet there when the filming starts. As stated in the email when two participants pick each other at the same time, you will be granted a night in a luxurious hotel which we call ‘Paradise’.” Taehyung nodded, confirming that yes he has read it. More than three times actually.
“You will get to introduce yourselves in the interview that you will film after we finish here. Just your name, hobbies, your ideal type and an interesting intro about yourself so you would appeal to the viewers. You’re more than welcome to exaggerate here and there. Of course, this is a reality show and everything should be real and not scripted so try to be yourself and as natural as possible. You may feel like two weeks is a long time but it’s basically a time game where you must capture the right timing. So, just a little advice; when you feel something act upon it right away.” Mr. Han paused to take in Taehyung’s reaction, making sure he’s understanding and on the same page as him.
Meanwhile, Taehyung was trying to take all that in, trying not to feel even more nervous and overwhelmed. Nodding here and there to not look like he’s lost.
Mr. Han then continued, “You’re also not allowed to state your age and job unless you’re in Paradise and the next day when you’re back you’re also not allowed to say the information you got to know there to anyone else. Deal?”
“Deal.” Taehyung stated softly. He knew he was being too quiet, but his throat was already feeling dry from nervousness and he really didn’t know what to say or do so he just opted to staying silent.
Mr. Han then looked at him fondly, thinking that he was too endearing because of how lost he looked.
“One more thing, you’re also not allowed to use your phone.” Taehyung eyes opened wide. What the hell? Two weeks without his phone? What if he needed to call Baekhyun to ask for advice? What if his parents needed him?
Mr. Han then broke his train of thoughts. “What I meant is that your phone won’t be available 24/7, you have like two hours a day for your phone to do whatever you want but other than that you’re not allowed to, we do that to ensure that you all spend time together and get to know each other. Cause if you all have your phone you won’t really communicate as much” Mr. Han then explained after seeing Taehyung’s panicked expression.
Taehyung then nodded seeing that it does actually make sense.
“Now you can go and start filming the interview. Mrs. Choi here will escort you to the area where we will be filming, after doing your hair and make-up. Any questions, Taehyung-ssi?”
Taehyung thought for a moment if there was anything left unclear. “Will every single second be filmed? And if I disagree in adding any scene of me, will there be a problem?” Taehyung asked.
“No, of course not we won’t be adding anything that’d make you uncomfortable just state what you dislike, and we’ll try our best to make it work so no one is harmed or offended. And about filming, there’s cameras filming nearly everywhere on the island, but most of them without a cameraman so you won’t feel pressured all the time, so yes everything is filmed but of course not everything will be added.”
Taehyung then nodded and thanked Mr. Han before he with Mrs. Choi to do his make-up.
After doing his make-up which was a few touch ups, the staff then adjusted the lightening. He was sat on a chair two cameras directed at him, one infront and one on his left. He always liked his left side more.
There was a screen infront of him where the questions will appear on.
He took deep breaths to calm his beating hard, planning to take an enthusiastic approach with his intro. To not seem as shy. He was scared he’d mess up and then the director will have to take many takes, he really didn’t want to be a burden.
He revised in his head what he was going to say. The director then signaled him that they were ready and they may begin whenever he was feeling ready.
He then signaled the director that he was ready, “Take one.” The director shouted.
Name the screen read. “Hello, my name is Kim Taehyung.” Taehyung smiled softly, gazing at the camera to appear confident. Hobbies. “I enjoy playing golf, tennis and sometimes volleyball. I love classic jazz, blues, and R&B music.” His eyes sparkled talking about music. He really loved music and dreamed of becoming a singer.
Ideal Type. “I’m really not that hard to please, but honesty can go a long way for me. I also really focus on how my partner treats me, I’m pretty much gone if he is a real gentleman.” He chuckled after seeing the staff infront of him laughing.
“Appearance wise, I like someone with big eyes and a pretty smile.”
Your Charm. “People around me always comment about my unique smile so I guess that’s my charm. Also, I’m pretty confident about my eyes.” He smiled his boxy smile to the camera.
“My friends also comment that I’m pretty sassy and I always speak my mind.” Taehyung continued.
Expectations of the show. “I would really like to meet someone here that I can date for the long run and not just for the summer.”
After a few seconds of silence, the director then shouted “Cut!”
Taehyung let out a sigh of relief, patting himself for doing good on the first take and for not stuttering. He saw the director coming his way, he patted his shoulder “Great job, Taehyung-ssi. You did great I don’t even think we need to take another shot!” Taehyung smiled and bowed thanking him.
“Let’s take a look at it and if you are fully pleased with the shot then we’re done, but if you would like to retake it then I also don’t mind.”
He watched and he was pretty pleased with the outcome, he also thought that if he retook it, it won’t be as natural, so he decided to stick to the first one.
He then was taken to a lounge with big beige lazy boy chairs to wait for other participants to finish their interview.
An hour later, he found himself inside a helicopter flying to the island where he will be spending the next two weeks. He was feeling peaceful and calm now, just enjoying the view and the sea underneath them. Preparing himself for what is coming next.
When he landed, one of the producers came over to him. “Welcome, Taehyung-ssi!” He said cheerfully, a heart shaped smile adoring his face. He looked like a literal sunshine with his smile and he immediately made Taehyung feel at ease. Taehyung bowed and smiled in greeting. “I’m Jung Hoseok, I’m one of the producers, but mainly I’ll be managing your scenes and the interviews we do in the middle. So, if you ever need anything or have any questions, ask me right away.”
“Okay, so what is going to happen now, how will I meet the others?”
“First, all the participants are going to enter in a random order you just walk down these stairs and sit down there.” He pointed down at a cozy seating area with lots of cushions, surrounded by fire poles and a lit fire in the middle.
The place looked really beautiful with the sea infront of it. He couldn’t wait to see the place at night, imagining the stars he will be able to see here.
“Then after you get down there just sit anywhere you prefer until all participants enter and sit down. Want a little hint?” Hoseok smiled mischievously.
Taehyung nodded with his head “Oh yes please.” Giving out his best puppy eyes look.
“You might want to mind you seating, try to play it smart. That’s all I’m saying.”
Taehyung stayed silent, trying to think what that might have meant. He shrugged and just left it to when it happens.
“Then what about the interview I just filmed before coming? Aren’t we going to introduce ourselves to each other now?” Taehyung asked curiously.
“Oh right, that was filmed to be aired as an intro for the viewers, participants now don’t get to watch it. Now you just all introduce yourselves, as in your names. Further information about yourselves and each other will be left to you, to make small talk together at the beginning.” Taehyung stared at Hoseok silently, trying to understand how that was supposed to work.
Hoseok chuckled upon seeing Taehyung’s incredulous expression. “Everything will be clear after a while and every little detail will be explained to you beforehand so don’t worry.”
Taehyung just nodded and thanked him.
He wasn’t really nervous right now, actually he was starting to get a little excited.
After checking his hair and making sure he looked presentable he was told that the filming was about to start and he should get ready to descend the stairs.
When he was at the top of the stairs, he looked down and he realized that he was the first one there. Oh lucky him as usual. Actually, he couldn’t decide if that was a good thing or a bad thing but he figured it’s better than entering and having eight pairs of eyes ogling at him. Outfit/>
When he came out of his head he realized that he was actually infront of the seating area, there was 9 seats there. He decided to sit near the far left end. Not wanting to sit in the middle and grab even more attention. But he still left a seat to his right vacant.
He made himself comfortable and waited. Few moments later, from the corner of his eye he saw someone start to descend the stairs. His heart started pounding, he thought he was calm and ready but only now did he realize that its real and happening at the moment. He took deep breaths, reminding himself that he was being filmed and tried to collect his expression.
Outfit When he came close enough Taehyung started seeing his features. The man had white pale skin, black dark hair and sharp and soft at the same time features. He was on the bit shorter side, he noted. He didn’t look like a person he’d normally try and approach though, seeming a bit cold. He looked cool and collected.
Taehyung stood up, ready to greet him. They bowed to each other in greeting. He looked around to pick where to sit, he ended up mirroring Taehyung’s place but on the right side. After he sat down he looked back at Taehyung. “I’m Yoongi. Min Yoongi. Nice to meet you” He said with a small smile.
Taehyung smiled back, “Kim Taehyung, same here.” Taehyung grimaced to himself, same here? Who on earth says that like that? Now he seems snobbish. He really needs to stop being so awkward.
Thinking hard on how to start a conversation without seeming more like a weirdo. The silence was very loud and it felt so awkward. Both of them looking around and just smiling whenever they make eye contact. He was about to start and say something to Yoongi when he heard him say “Someone’s coming.”
Outfit He looked up towards the stairs and saw a tall man, buff body and raven locks. When he came closer, he saw his very cute dimples. Oh, he’s hot. He thought.
Taehyung saw him come towards him, he sat on Taehyung’s left side. Leaving one place between them. They greeted each other with small smiled and slight head bows. “Hi, I’m Kim Namjoon.” He smiled with his dimples, eyes closing a bit.
They all exchanged names and were waiting for the next person.
Outfit Next person was a girl, with long brown hair. She was wearing a cute yellow dress. She looked really pretty. He came to know that she was called Jennie. Also a Kim. There was three of them now. She sat right in the middle, right beside Namjoon.
Outfit Next was a male with a really cute face, lean body and a warm smile. He was called Park Bogum. He went and sat right beside Taehyung at the far left end.
Outfit After a few moments, another male came in. He was tall, lean but soft muscles were obvious and really so fucking handsome if Taehyung was being honest. Kim Seokjin was his name. Seriously, why so many Kims?
He sat between Taehyung and Namjoon.
Outfit Then there was another girl. She was skinny, tall, bit pale and had beautiful features. Lisa. She sat at the far right end beside Yoongi.
Now there were only two people left.
Outfit Another guy, with blond locks. He was on the shorter side, thick pouty lips, shiny eyes and a dazzling smile where his eyes turned into crescents. Park Jimin. He sat beside Yoongi.
He thought that’d he would face trouble in memorizing all the new faces and names. But he was proved wrong as they were all quiet memorable and each one left an impression. He wondered if he also left an impression.
Now for the final participant. Now Taehyung was confused on why they would put 9 people together? Just to deliberately add drama? There will definitely be some fighting. He was already feeling overwhelmed.
Outfit A guy then came into view. He was tall, his hair was rather a bit long, a full sleeve tattoo and he looked like he spends a lot of time at the gym. As soon as he came close enough for Taehyung to see his face, It actually took Taehyung a few seconds to realize. He knows these bambi eyes, he knows that scrunched up nose, he knows the bunny front teeth even though he hasn't smiled yet. His face paled, eyes opening wide and his heart flew to his throat. Wait. What the fuck. Oh this one he didn’t need to hear him introducing himself.
Jeon Jungkook.
Chapter Text
The first thing that came into Taehyung’s mind after seeing Jungkook is how did he change so much? Taehyung himself hadn’t changed that much. Jungkook has always loved the gym and working out but Taehyung has always had a boarder frame, but now Jungkook was nearly double Taehyung’s size. He had longer hair now and a mullet, he remembers begging him in the past to change his boba hair to something else for a change and he never complied. Now he also had wide shoulders, big biceps, chiseled chest and muscly thick thighs visible even through his jeans. And he still looked lean and had just the right amount of muscle to be sexy. And oh his waist is still as tiny as ever.
Second thing, was he supposed to act like they didn’t know each other? Do they tell the director? Would that mean that one of them had to leave? And why the hell was his heart beating so fast? Okay nevermind it’s normal when you unexpectedly see someone you know.
He opted to the safer option and just avoided making any eye contact with him or so he thought. He really tried okay but he just couldn’t help it. As if looking several times would make the fact change.
Did Jungkook even see him? He wasn’t wearing any kind of expression he just bowed to everyone and said hi and went to sit down on the only vacant seat that was there.
There was an awkward silence all over them which was normal, no one knows the other and they’re all nervous. Taehyung was starting to feel fidgety, trying to stay still and failing. Then Bogum took the cushion he had on his lap and put it behind Taehyung’s back to support it. “You seemed uncomfortable.” Bogum smiled charmingly at him. “Oh. Thank you so much.” Taehyung tried not to seem surprised and be cool about it, like it’s not the first time in years that someone is taking care of him. Well, it’s not like he had many encounters with gentlemen, okay he admits he gets swayed pretty easily by such domestic moves but sue him that’s his favorite trait in a partner. So yeah he might be blushing right now.
But he had to remind himself that they’re on a dating show. They will be deliberately making moves to make him fall for them, he has to play it smart and get a stronger grip on his heart and not just get swayed like a freaking feather.
His eyes found Jungkook again and this time Jungkook was looking back at him. Taehyung couldn’t read his expression right now, they just kept looking at each other, neither of them willing to break eye contact first. Jungkook looked at him with curious wide eyes, oh how he used to love those bambi eyes. Taehyung was a few seconds away from breaking eye contact when they heard a tingling sound from the big speaker. Like the one you’d hear at school signaling the end of a period.
“Hello, Singles. The hottest Inferno in the world; Single’s Inferno.” A women’s voice said. In a way like a MC would talk. Taehyung tried to hold in his laugh because he found the whole situation silly and cringey. From the corner of his eye he found Bogum in a similar situation, trying to keep a straight face. They looked at each other and laughed in a low voice, trying not to attract attention.
Taehyung found the situation silly but he had no idea why he was laughing. He was really starting to get excited.
“I’m the master of Single’s Inferno and I’ll be helping you find love. Now, I’ll inform you of the rules in Inferno. As you can see, Inferno is isolated from the world. You will not be able to use any electronic devices. For food, you must cook for yourselves with the ingredients provided.” Wait what. He actually didn’t think about food at all. He hopes the others can cook as he can hardly make himself good ramyeon. He isn’t lazy he actually tried many times it just never works.
“Here your profession, age and place of residence must not be revealed. Use only your natural charms to actually win over each other’s hearts to become a couple. Those who become a couple will spend a night in Paradise. Luxurious suites are waiting for you there. There you can reveal your profession, age and place of residence to your partner. Whatever information you hear during your stay in Paradise must not be revealed in Inferno under any circumstances. The map of the island is on the table infront of you. Please split into teams of three in the order you are seated and begin exploring the island now.”
Taehyung’s eyes widened. Oh so that’s why Hoseok-ssi told him that the seating order was actually important. He knew for sure that Bogum was going to be paired with him. He looked at his left to see that handsome guy with broad shoulders. What was his name? He has never been good with names and was too embarrassed to ask. He also looked towards Jungkook to check who he was pairing up with and oh the really hot guy and the girl.
Bogum then fetched the paper map that was on the table beside him, different locations were marked like the tents, water place, kitchen, dressing room and another seating area. A big red ‘X’ was marked as in the place they were currently in. Each of the three pairs were deciding where they would go first. Taehyung suggested going to the kitchen and dining place to check it, Bogum immediately agreed and Seokjin (Bogum called for him a minute ago so he now knows his name) shrugged saying he doesn’t mind.
They stood up and got ready to move
Chapter 3: Teaming Up and Uncharted Territory
The trio—Taehyung, Bogum, and Seokjin—walked toward the kitchen area, their footsteps soft against the sandy ground. The map was clutched in Bogum’s hand, guiding their way through the unfamiliar paths of the island. Taehyung tried to focus on the directions, but his mind wandered back to Jungkook.
His brief exchange with Jungkook was still playing in his head. That curious look, those Bambi eyes that once made his heart race in the past, now felt like a double-edged sword. Taehyung wasn’t sure if he wanted to relive old feelings, especially in a setting like this—a place where emotions could easily be manipulated.
As they reached the kitchen area, Taehyung scanned the space. It was a rustic setup—wooden countertops, a single fire pit for cooking, and minimal supplies. Taehyung stared at the ingredients, trying to piece together what could possibly turn into a meal. His hands hovered awkwardly over the vegetables, unsure where to begin.
“I think… we’ll survive with these,” Taehyung said, scratching the back of his head in defeat. “Even if it’s just something edible.”
Seokjin chuckled, tossing a piece of firewood into the pit. “I’ll handle the fire. You figure out the rest.”
Bogum smiled, watching the scene unfold. “We might end up with something more entertaining than a meal.”
Taehyung sighed, picking up a knife with shaky hands. “Hey, I’ve tried cooking before, alright? It’s just… it doesn’t cooperate with me.”
“Let me guess,” Seokjin teased, “the food either ends up burned or over-salted?”
Taehyung groaned and swung the knife down on the vegetables a bit too aggressively. “Exactly!”
Bogum gave a supportive nod. “We’ll figure it out. It can’t get any worse.”
As Taehyung wrestled with chopping, his mind wandered again—this time to Jungkook. His brief encounter with him had been awkward, and now, seeing him from the corner of his eye, the same thoughts crept back in. Jungkook stood a little apart from them, methodically preparing ingredients with calm precision. His movements were smooth and efficient, like he had done this a hundred times before.
Jungkook wasn’t making a sound, only focusing on the task at hand. Taehyung, distracted, kept sneaking glances in his direction—each one heavier than the last. His heart was racing again, though he couldn’t tell if it was from nervousness or something else entirely.
“Would you stop staring?” Seokjin’s voice broke through Taehyung’s thoughts. “It’s a bit obvious.”. And great start Taehyung, you already got caught staring.
Taehyung snapped back to attention, flustered. “I wasn’t—.”
Seokjin grinned as he rotated the skewers over the fire. “Oh don't worry I just feel like you take are going to click. It’s cute.”
Oh if only he knew how much they click. clicked I mean. No guarantee they'll still click now.
“No, it’s not,” Taehyung muttered, pushing his hair back in frustration. Upon observing Taehyung's reaction, Seokjin decided to drop the topic. Maybe he was being too nosy and too soon.
Jungkook finally looked up, his eyes meeting Taehyung’s for a fleeting second before he turned back to his task. That brief moment felt heavier than Taehyung expected.
“Need help?” Jungkook’s voice was quiet, his expression unreadable.
Taehyung hesitated, then shook his head. “I’m good.”
But was he?
As Jungkook resumed slicing, Taehyung’s hands fumbled with a carrot, failing miserably at getting even cuts. His frustration built, and he let out a loud sigh. “Okay, maybe just… a little help.”
Jungkook’s lips quirked up in a subtle smirk as he took the knife from Taehyung’s hand. His movements were precise and fluid, slicing through the carrot with ease. “See?” Jungkook said, his voice teasing, “This is how it’s done.”
Taehyung glared at him, crossing his arms. “Oh, very funny.”
“You didn’t have to volunteer for this,” Taehyung grumbled, leaning against the counter for support. “Honestly, if we didn’t have the basics covered, we’d probably be eating mud by now.”
“I’d take mud over this,” Seokjin quipped, glancing back at the cooking skewers with a bemused look. “At least it wouldn’t set off the fire alarm.”
The light banter helped to ease the tension, but Taehyung couldn’t shake the feeling that Jungkook was watching him again. Every glance was like a weight, pressing down on him harder with each moment. His mind was a whirlwind of thoughts—old memories, feelings long buried, and the unfamiliar reality of the present.
After a while, Jungkook stepped back, his work done. “There. All ready to go.”
Taehyung took a deep breath, attempting to gather his composure. “Thanks,” he said quietly, his voice shaky.
Jungkook gave him a brief nod, his eyes steady. “You’ll get better.”
“Thanks for the vote of confidence,” Taehyung muttered, though a small smile tugged at his lips.
Bogum cleared his throat, bringing them back to the present moment making them break their eye contact. “Alright, let’s figure out what’s next. We’ve got to get out of here soon before we all starve.”
---
Later, the group gathered for their first meal together. The staff had prepared an extravagant feast by the beach, complete with fairy lights and a stunning sunset backdrop.
Taehyung sat between Yoongi and Jimin, hoping to avoid any direct interaction with Jungkook. But, as fate would have it, Jungkook ended up directly across from him.
“So, Taehyung,” Jungkook began, his voice cutting through the chatter. “What have you been up to these past six years?”
Taehyung froze, his chopsticks hovering mid-air. The question was innocent enough, but the intensity in Jungkook’s gaze made it feel anything but casual.
“Just... living,” Taehyung replied softly, not meeting his eyes.
“Living, huh?” Jungkook said, his tone teasing. “That doesn’t sound very exciting.”
“Maybe not to you,” Taehyung shot back, his voice sharper than he intended.
The table went quiet for a moment, the tension between them palpable. Lisa, ever the peacemaker, quickly changed the subject, and the conversation flowed once again.
---
As the days went by, the dynamics among the participants became more complex. Jungkook’s natural charisma made him a popular choice, but it was clear his attention was often focused on Taehyung.
Taehyung, however, wasn’t having it. He kept his distance, chatting more with Bogum and Namjoon, who were both kind and attentive. Bogum, in particular, seemed genuinely interested in Taehyung, which didn’t go unnoticed by Jungkook.
One afternoon, while the group was lounging by the beach, Bogum leaned closer to Taehyung, brushing a strand of hair out of his face. “You have sand in your hair,” he said with a gentle smile.
Taehyung laughed softly, “Thanks. I didn’t even notice.”
From across the beach, Jungkook watched the interaction with narrowed eyes. His jaw tightened as he saw Bogum’s hand linger a moment too long.
---
That evening, during a private conversation, Jungkook cornered Taehyung near the bonfire.
“Are you and Bogum... close now?” Jungkook asked, his tone deceptively calm.
Taehyung raised an eyebrow. “Why do you care?”
“Because I know you,” Jungkook said, stepping closer. His towering frame made Taehyung feel small, but not in an unpleasant way. “And I know when you’re trying to run away from something—or someone.”
“I’m not running,” Taehyung replied, though his voice wavered slightly.
“Then why won’t you look at me?” Jungkook’s voice softened, but there was an edge of vulnerability in his eyes.
Taehyung’s breath hitched as Jungkook’s hand gently cupped his chin, forcing him to meet his gaze.
“You’re still the same,” Jungkook murmured, his thumb brushing against Taehyung’s cheek. “Still as beautiful as ever.”
Taehyung’s heart raced. He wanted to pull away, to push Jungkook out of his carefully built walls, but he couldn’t move.
“Why are you doing this?” Taehyung whispered. “You disappeared, Jungkook. You left me.”
“I had my reasons,” Jungkook said, his voice heavy with regret. “But I never stopped thinking about you. Not for a single day.”
Tears welled in Taehyung’s eyes, and he quickly turned away, breaking free from Jungkook’s hold.
“I can’t do this,” he said, his voice trembling. “Not here. Not like this.”
Jungkook watched him walk away, his fists clenching at his sides. He wasn’t going to let Taehyung slip away again—not this time.

Notes:
Sorry for the LONG pause, hopefully never again..
Chapter Text
The sun was high, casting its golden rays over the island as the group gathered around the central arena for their first major challenge. The production team had set up an elaborate obstacle course on the beach, complete with climbing walls, balance beams, and a tug-of-war finale.
Jung Hoseok, the producer overseeing the show, stepped forward with his signature bright smile.
“Good morning, everyone! Today’s challenge is a physical one, and the stakes are high,” he announced. “The winner gets the power to choose their first date for tonight’s trip to Paradise. So, bring your A-game!”
The contestants exchanged excited glances, but tension was thick in the air.
“Let’s pair up,” Hoseok continued. “Each of you will compete against someone else in the preliminary round. Winners from each pair will move on to the final showdown. Ready?”
The group murmured their agreement, and soon the pairs were chosen:
* Taehyung vs. Lisa
* Jungkook vs. Namjoon
* Bogum vs. Jennie
* Yoongi vs. Jimin
Round 1: Taehyung vs. Lisa
Taehyung felt a mix of relief and nerves. Lisa was athletic, and though he kept fit, he wasn’t particularly competitive.
“Go easy on me,” he joked as they stood at the starting line.
Lisa smirked. “No way. I want that date with Jungkook.”
Her words sent a pang through Taehyung’s chest, but he masked it with a nervous laugh.
The whistle blew, and they were off. The course was tougher than it looked, but Taehyung surprised himself by staying ahead, his long legs giving him an edge on the balance beam. By the time they reached the tug-of-war segment, Lisa was catching up, but Taehyung dug deep, pulling with all his might.
Cheers erupted as he crossed the finish line first, his face red and sweat dripping down his neck.
“Well done, Taehyung!” Jennie called, clapping enthusiastically.
Jungkook, standing nearby, smirked proudly but kept silent.
Round 2: Jungkook vs. Namjoon
This round was an intense clash of titans. Both men were muscular and competitive, and it showed. Jungkook’s agility gave him the upper hand on the climbing wall, but Namjoon caught up during the sprint segment.
It all came down to the tug-of-war, and with one final burst of strength, Jungkook slammed Namjoon’s side of the rope into the sand, securing his victory.
“Nice try, hyung,” Jungkook said with a grin, offering Namjoon a hand up.
Namjoon sighed but laughed, brushing the sand off his clothes. “You’re scary when you’re determined.”
Round 3: Bogum vs. Jennie
Bogum and Jennie’s match was more lighthearted, with Jennie laughing through most of the course. Bogum, however, was focused, his goal clear in his mind.
“I’m coming for you, Taehyung,” he teased as he crossed the finish line.
Taehyung rolled his eyes but couldn’t help the slight blush that rose to his cheeks.
Round 4: Yoongi vs. Jimin
Yoongi, not the most athletic, still gave it his all, his eyes constantly darting to Jimin, who was laughing and teasing him throughout.
“Hyung, you’re too slow!” Jimin called, skipping across the balance beam.
Yoongi chuckled, shaking his head. “You’re lucky I like you.”
In the end, Jimin won easily, but Yoongi didn’t seem too upset. He leaned back on the sand, watching Jimin’s bright smile as he celebrated.
The Final Showdown: Taehyung, Jungkook, Bogum, and Jimin
The final round was more competitive than anyone expected. The producers added a new element: a scavenger hunt across the beach.
Taehyung found himself paired against Bogum and Jungkook multiple times, their silent rivalry becoming more obvious with each passing second.
At one point, Taehyung tripped over a rock, and before he could even move, Jungkook was there, pulling him up.
“Be careful,” Jungkook murmured, his hand lingering on Taehyung’s waist for a moment before he ran off.
Bogum, noticing the interaction, frowned but kept his focus on the task.
In the final seconds, it came down to a footrace between Jungkook and Bogum. Both men were neck and neck, but Jungkook’s raw determination propelled him forward, his chest hitting the finish line just a split second before Bogum’s.
The crowd erupted in cheers, and Jungkook stood there, catching his breath, his eyes scanning the group until they landed on Taehyung
That evening, under the glow of lanterns, Jung Hoseok gathered the group. “Congratulations, Jungkook! Now it’s time to make your choice. Who will you take to Paradise tonight?”
The group held their breath, the tension palpable.
Jungkook’s gaze swept over the participants before settling firmly on Taehyung.
“I choose Taehyung,” he said, his voice steady and confident.
Taehyung’s eyes widened in shock. Around him, the reactions varied: Lisa and Jennie looked visibly disappointed, while Bogum’s jaw tightened in frustration.
Taehyung, however, couldn’t find the words to protest as Jungkook extended a hand toward him.
“Shall we?” Jungkook asked, his voice soft, but the underlying intensity was undeniable.
With a hesitant smile, Taehyung placed his hand in Jungkook’s, allowing himself to be led away.
The villa was breathtaking, nestled between lush trees and overlooking the turquoise waters. The air smelled of salt and sweet flowers, and the gentle hum of the ocean created a soothing backdrop. They were alone now, no distractions—just the two of them.
Taehyung hesitated for a moment as they entered, his eyes wide in awe at the beauty of their surroundings. Jungkook, already inside, turned to him with that soft, knowing smile that always made Taehyung’s heart race.
“You’re quiet,” Jungkook teased, stepping closer to him. “What’s going on in that head of yours?”
Taehyung smiled faintly, shaking his head. “I was just thinking… we’re really alone here, huh?”
Jungkook stepped even closer, now just inches from him, his hand brushing against Taehyung’s as he reached to adjust his collar. “I like being alone with you.”
Taehyung’s breath hitched in his throat. The intensity in Jungkook’s gaze was like a fire, drawing him in. The distance between them seemed to disappear, and for a brief moment, Taehyung forgot everything around them—the cameras, the competition, even the others. All that mattered was Jungkook.
Jungkook lifted his hand, gently cupping Taehyung’s jaw, his thumb brushing over his skin. “Taehyung,” he whispered, his voice rough with emotion. “I’ve been wanting to do this for a while.”
Before Taehyung could even respond, Jungkook closed the distance between them, capturing his lips in a kiss. The world seemed to stop around them as Taehyung’s heart raced in his chest, his body reacting instinctively, leaning into the kiss as Jungkook’s strong arms wrapped around him, pulling him closer.
The kiss was soft at first—tentative, exploratory—but as Taehyung sighed into it, Jungkook deepened the kiss, his lips pressing harder against Taehyung’s. Taehyung’s hands found their way to Jungkook’s chest, feeling the muscles beneath his shirt, the warmth radiating off of him. The sensation sent a thrill through Taehyung, his chest tightening with desire and something deeper—a need to be close, to be more than just the teasing moments they’d shared before.
When they finally pulled apart, both were breathless, their foreheads leaning against each other as they tried to catch their breath.
“I—” Taehyung began, his voice shaky. “I didn’t expect that.”
Jungkook smiled softly, brushing a lock of hair away from Taehyung’s face. “Me neither, but I don’t regret it.”
Later, as the evening set in and the stars began to twinkle above, the two of them made their way outside to the villa’s private pool. The water shimmered in the moonlight, inviting them to relax and enjoy the quiet, private night.
Jungkook, ever the playful one, immediately kicked off his shoes and walked into the pool, the cool water lapping at his calves. Taehyung watched him with a smirk, knowing exactly what was coming next.
“You’re not gonna leave me out here, are you?” Taehyung teased, already toeing off his shoes.
Jungkook turned, his gaze intense. “Come in, Tae. The water’s perfect.”
Taehyung rolled his eyes but couldn’t hide his smile as he followed Jungkook into the pool. The cool water enveloped him, a sharp contrast to the warmth between them. They swam for a few moments, splashing each other playfully, laughing together in the quiet. But then, the mood shifted.
Jungkook swam closer, his chest brushing against Taehyung’s as he reached out to grab his waist, pulling him toward him with a soft but firm grip. Taehyung froze for a moment, his breath catching in his throat as he looked into Jungkook’s eyes—those dark, intense eyes that always made his heart race.
“Jungkook…” Taehyung whispered, his voice barely audible over the sound of the water.
Jungkook didn’t say anything in response. Instead, he leaned in slowly, his lips brushing against Taehyung’s ear. The sensation sent a shiver down Taehyung’s spine as Jungkook whispered softly, “You’re mine, Tae. Don’t forget that.”
Before Taehyung could fully process his words, Jungkook’s lips found his again, kissing him with an intensity that stole his breath away. The water splashed around them as they kissed, their bodies pressed together, the heat of the moment overwhelming everything else. Taehyung’s hands found their way to Jungkook’s shoulders, his fingers digging into the muscles as he pulled him closer, if that was even possible.
They finally pulled apart, their faces flushed, breaths coming in quick, shallow gasps. Taehyung smiled, his heart thudding in his chest as he looked into Jungkook’s eyes.
“Do you regret it?” Taehyung asked softly, his voice barely above a whisper.
Jungkook’s lips curled into a confident smile. “Not even for a second.”
As they stood there in the moonlit pool, the world around them seemed to vanish. There were no cameras, no other contestants, no competition—just the two of them, caught in a moment of shared desire and growing affection. And in that moment, Taehyung felt something shift, something undeniable between them.
This wasn’t just about the competition anymore.
This was about them.
