Work Text:

The night Robin wore his wolf skin and made mischief of one kind.

smash!

"Robin! Will you just go away I'm trying to work!" She exclaimed as another lightbulb shattered behind her.

"fine. You no fun anyway" He stormed off, the lights in the house going out behind him.

She yelled after him "If you have blown the fuse again mister, I swear to god."

"WAS NOT MY FAULT. IT WAS BIGGER BOY"

A weary voice from the other side of the house bellowed "It's alright Ali, I'll get it" and the lights flickered back on.

and another

"that one?" the politician checked, pointing to the book that Robin wanted to look at the pictures in.

"that's it"

He started to grunt and pull at the book but it wouldn't come lose.

"pull harder!" he said

"I'm trying, man!" were Julian's words before the entire bookcase came crashing down, phasing right through both of them, but making an enormous thud. It was swiftly followed by a few more thuds of Alison hurrying up the stairs

"What the hell was that?!"

"me want book"

"YOU CANT READ ROBIN"

his mother called him "WILD THING" and Robin said "I'LL EAT YOU UP" so he went to bed before film club.

"That's it I've had enough of this childish behaviour! if you want to act like a kid you'll get treated like one! now go to bed you.. you WILD... THING"

"I'LL EAT YOU UP" he stormed off again, this time with tears in his eyes and fury in his stomach. He stomped into his room and sat down on the floor, he had no furniture anyway, and tried to go to sleep.

That very night in Robin's room a forest grew

He awoke with a start as something dug into his side. Bleary-eyed he got up and looked around. Lots of little trees and shrubs were beginning to grow and the floorboards were slowly turning to grass. The Moonah shone in through the open window.

and grew-

Before his eyes the forest was growing bigger and bigger. The potted plant that Alison had gotten him was now a fully grown bush, the floor had completely changed beneath his feet and the chair that was usually in the corner was now a tree stump. He laughed. He was free.

and grew until his ceiling hung with vines and the walls became the world all around

Robin looked around for the door only to realize it was gone. He was fully immersed in this forest, surrounded by plants and trees and flowers. He looked up at the ceiling to find it was the open sky. He could see Mary and his full Moonah beaming down at him, broken up by thick vines draped from branches. He did a little jig on the spot and went off to explore.

and an ocean tumbled by with a private boat for Robin and he sailed off through night and day

The ocean was hidden through the thick foliage, but he found it soon enough and clambered onto the little red sail boat that seemed to be waiting just for him, it even had his name painted neatly on the side . The wind parted him from his bedroom island and they were off. Floating away from his past life and leaving all his troubles with it.

and in an out of weeks

and almost over a year

to where the wild things are.

It was hard work sailing his little boat through the choppy seas. The days and night started blurring into each other and then the weeks did and so did the months. It must have been a year by the time he reached the island. He was sure he'd been there before, it all looked so familiar. A hideous creature rose out of the water and stared at him. Robin wasn't scared he simply stared right back and pretended he was a monster too.

And when he came to the place where the wild things are

they roared their terrible roars and gnashed their terrible teeth

and rolled their terrible eyes and showed their terrible teeth

Robin got off the boat and was greeted by more of these creatures. He wasn't exactly sure what they were because they all looked very different. But they were all giants, snarling and snargaling and making horrible noises. They all held their hairy limbs above their heads in the most threatening way they could, crashing around and smashing stuff up.

till Robin said "BE STILL"

and tamed them with the magic trick of staring into all of their yellow eyes without blinking once

and they were frightened and called him the most wild thing of all

"Stop the roaring" robin yelled.

"BE STILL"

They all turned to look towards him, fierce and violent. Robin stared, looking straight into their yellow eyes and not blinking. Soon they were all cowering.

"ok ok you are the most wild thing of all, you can stop staring at us now" one of the wild things said.

and made him king of all the wild things

"AND NOW" cried Robin, "let the wild rumpus start!"

The wild things placed a special crown on Robins head and took turns bowing down to him. He stood up to make a speech.

"AND NOW" he decreed "we do dance for Moonah"

and all the wild things got up and started to dance around under the light of Moonah. They danced through the night and into the next day, when he taught them how to climb trees and swing from branches and in the evening he rode on their backs through the woods. He held his head high because he was their king, and was the most wild thing of all.

"Now stop!" Robin said and sent the wild things off to bed without doing film club.

And Robin the king of all wild things was lonely and wanted to be where someone loved him best of all.

"You need to go to bed now. It late" Robin addressed the wild things. He remembered the pain he was feeling earlier.

"And no film club for you guys. Honestly. Acting like a children" There were confused grumbles from the wild things. They had never been sent to bed before, and what even was 'film club'?

But he was their king so they did it anyway.

Robin stayed awake and sat outside. He just wanted to go home now. He just wanted to be loved.

Then all around from a far way across the world he heard laughter

so he gave up being king of where the wild things are.

"Hey! who's laughing at me?" Robin yelled into the dense jungle around him.

"WHATS SO FUNNY"

he took off his crown and set back towards his little boat. He didn't need to be king anymore.

But the wild things cried "Oh please don't go-

we'll eat you up- we love you so!"

and robin said "No!"

As his little boat sailed away, the wild things all gathered on the edge where they greeted him. They cried and called after him but robin just floated away. He didn't need them anymore.

and he sailed back over a year

and in and out of weeks

and through a day

The days and night started blurring into each other and then the weeks did and so did the months. It must have been a year by the time he reached home. He was sure he'd been there before, it all looked so familiar

and into the night of his very own room

where he found his friends waiting for him

Robin rubbed his bleary eyes. He stumbled out of his room and down the stairs.

"There he is! we've been looking for you everywhere mate!"

and he heard them laugh.
