Chapter Text
It was an early Sunday morning and Victor and Yuuri were awake so that they could get in one last bit of transiting before worlds started. They were set to perform their routines the following day.
This was to be Victor's final season and although he wanted Yuuri to win he was sure going to make him try for that gold medal. Plus a little extra practice could do no harm and it may help to calm Yuuri’s nerves.
Worlds this year were in Canada so it shouldn’t have been that surprising to Victor and Yuuri that when they showed up at the rink there was a hockey team practicing, although they were on the other rink opposite the skating rink, the hockey players. were rather loud and rough.
It seems that it was not only Victor and Yuuri who had the same idea to come to the rink as Yurio, Otabek, Phichit, Chris and JJ were there with their respective coaches of course.
The skaters surrounded the hockey rink just watching the players, it was as mesmerizing as it was violent.
To the side of him victor could hear Yuuri comment on all of their plays.
“Yuuuuuuuri, do you understand what they are doing?” Victor asked fascinated by his loves interest.
“Yeah a little. See that guy over there number, 11?” Yuuri directed Victor and pointed his finger towards the player, at this point all the skaters as well as the coaches were intrigued by Yuuri’s knowledge of the sport.
“Yeah, I see him,” Victor assured.
“Well he is attempting to do a bar down, but well it isn’t going very well” Yuuri grimmanced as he saw the continuous failed attempts.
“But i don't understand, the puck thing is going into the goal or net thing? So what's the issue”
Yuuri sighed “In order for it to be a bar down the puck has to hit the bottom of the crossbar and go right down into the net. But what he's doing is well a poor attempt, though I do admire his effort.”
Victor was shocked, was Yuuri his Yuuri commenting on someone doing something other than perfect. And since when did Yuuri ever watch hockey, why does he know so much?!
“'Say Yuuri, why do you know so much about ice hockey?”
“Oh, I used to play it when I was younger. I guess it was something that I did as well as figure skating but more on the side. I mean if I didn’t do what I do now, I either would have gone into ballet or ice hockey. Plus my high school girlfriend was really into ice hockey.” Yuuri said with a shrug, starting to walk away from the other rink with all the other skaters following him like little ducklings.
"High school girlfriend, Yuuri, you never told me you had a high school girlfriend!” Phichit spoke up, hurt by this new revelation. How could his best friend keep something this important from him?
This caused Yuuri to stop and scratch the back of his head. “Well i guess high school girlfriend is really more of a loose term, we weren’t really that serious but we were together intimately. You know what more we were more best friends with benefits. We really only dated each other to hide that I liked guys and she girls but it sort of I don't know somehow evolved?”
“How come you never speak of her?” Victor asked, shocked by the news he just heard, no offense but he had been told that Yuuri had a terrible high school which is why the only two friends he had were older than him and now married. So don't blame him that he found it surprising that not only did his Yuuri have a girlfriend but was also getting laid.
“Well she got into a car accident and she sorta died. I don’t know, I don't really like talking about it. Plus after her death her family moved away to like England or something…anyway um I’m gonna go skate now.” And with that Yuuri was able to flee from that very awkward moment.
But as for everyone else they were left standing there. How did Victor not know this about his soon to be husband…what other secrets was he hiding well, he was going to just have to find out for himself.

Victor trying to pry information out of Yuuri about his old girlfriend
Chapter Text
“Yuuri I’m homeee” Victor announced he came through the door only to be greeted by a sloppy wet kiss from his beloved dog. “Yes, Makka I’m happy to see you too but let’s go find your other papa.” Victor said as he pulled away from the mutt.
He walked down to their bedroom and there on the bed was Yuuri who was on his phone scrolling idly. For some reason just the sight of his beloved lit something warm inside of Victor as he stood in the doorway and watched his fiancé, he was reminded of how lucky he was.
“Are you just going to stare at me?” Yuuri said without looking up from his phone.
“How could i not, when you are the most beautiful person in the world” Victor responded, making Yuuri finally look up from his phone with a blush. Even after all this time Victors complements still make him swoon.
“Oh come here” , Yuuri urged, making grabbing motions with his hands at Victor and to Victor, that was an offer he couldn’t refuse.
Both of them sat there for a while taking in each other's presence until Victor was reminded of the conversation they were having just a few days ago.
“Yuuri, can I ask you a question?”. He asked while cradled in his soon to be husband's arms, a hand gently playing with his hair.
“Mm” Yuuri responded not opening his eyes
“It’s about the other day, remember when you said that you had a girlfriend in high school and were into hockey…well i was…wondering…” but before Victor could finish he was cut off by Yuuri.
“I don't really want to talk about it, it was a hard time in my life and i just can’t…sorry Vitya” Yuuri said with his hand in Victor's hair continuing to rake through it.
“Hey it’s okay, didn’t mean to pry, I guess the other day when you talked about her.. never mind.” And with that Victor pulled Yuuri into him for a hug and cradled his head.
They both sat like that in silence until it was Yuuri who said what Victor wanted to say first.
“I love you”.
“I love you too love.”
Chapter 3: Chapter 3
Summary:
Yuuri’s high school reunion where victor finds more about Yuuri’s life there.
Chapter Text
Yuuri hung up his phone and slammed it onto the kitchen counter and let out a long sigh. He grabbed the bridge of his nose to alleviate his frustrations while closing his eyes.
“What is wrong my love” Victor asked from the couch looking up from his book. He could see the tension Yuuri held in his body and came to the conclusion that whatever news Yuuri received on the phone must have not been good. So Victor got up from the couch and gently made his way to the kitchen. He grabbed the other man's waist from behind and pressed his own forehead Into the smaller man’s shoulder.
“That was my mother, apparently my old high school in Japan is having a high school reunion that I have to attend because the world hates me.” Yuuri said as his head cast down. Victor gave him a little squeeze to get him to look back up.
“Honey, you don't have to do anything, nobody is forcing you to go”. Yuuri was about to interrupt, but Victor turned him around so that they faced each other, upon gazing into eachothers eyes Victor continued “If you want to go to the reunion then you can but you don't have to.”
“I’m just scared, i mean i kind of want to go but, it's been a long time a-and…” Yuuri started trembling as Victor gently patted the smaller man’s head on his shoulder.
“It's okay to be scared baby but if it's getting you this upset we can stay here, in Russia and do anything you want.” Victor said with a half smile.
“If i go can you come with me?” Yuuri asked with tear soaked cheeks looking up at Victor. This was a sight that broke Victor's heart, he never wants to see his Yuuri cry, especially not over something so small.
“Of course ill go with you. I’ll be your hot trophy wife that you can show off to everyone” Victor said with a rising smirk.
“Your an idiot…my idiot” Yuuri sniffled but there was a smile on his face, So Victor counted that as a win.
—————
“Honey, don't be so nervous, '' Victor said, grabbing Yuuri’s hand while they stood outside of Yuuri’s old high school gym door.
Victor had made sure that both of them were in only the best suits money could buy. Even though Yuuri yelled at him for it, it was still worth it. He also made sure that Yuuri was not going to wear his hideous blue tie, as that tie was his mortal enemy, the villain in their live story, the very item threatening them. He’s been meaning to burn it really but every time he goes to, he can’t find the stupid tie thus beating Chris’s spot at Victor's number one enemy, Yuuri is all his.
“Okay, I’m ready” Yuuri responded after he took some time to compose himself, his breathing exercises really helping right now.
The couple checked in, making sure to grab their names tags, with Victor getting a guest one before being greeted with the smell of gym floors as they stepped through the doors.
“Omg, is that the famous Katsuki Yuuri” a woman announced as she walked up to the couple quietly tucked away into the corner of the gym enjoying their drinks. Many people's eyes glanced over to the couple but made no effort to go say hello. Instead this woman made her introductions.
“Yuuri it's been a long time how are you?” The woman said with a smile pulling him in for a hug which Yuuri graciously returned.
“I’m good, how are you?” Yuuri replied back.
“Same old same old” the women responded. Her eyes fell on Victor who was watching the interaction between her and Yuuri, he seemed like he was unsure what to think of it.
“Omg sorry, um Isla this is Victor my fiancé and Victor this is Isla, we were….” Yuuri said before being cut off.
“We were in the same friend group before ...you know what happened” Isla continued trying to finish Yuuri’s sentence. “Anyway I'll go get the others so you can introduce your little boy toy.” And with a flick of her hair she was gone.
“Did she just call me your boy toy? Victor asked amused sipping his cheap Champagne, Yuuri’s only response to this was a groan.
“So fiancé huh?” Isla asked while sitting on the bleachers next to Victor, as they both watch Yuuri interact and catching up with his old friend group.
“Yeah, we’ve been together for 3 years” Victor proudly stated, he was the luckiest person in the world and he was sure going to make it known to everyone.
“And you love him, right?” Isla questioned back a hint of concern laced in her voice.
“Of course i love him, he is my everything” Victor responded, how could she think that he didn’t love Yuuri. How could you not love yuuri, he was so kind and sweet and just amazing, he was too good for this world.
“Okay, just making sure because if you hurt him i don't care who you are i will end you.” She said looking Victor dead in the eyes “he doesn’t deserve that, he's been through a lot already.” She mumbled and turned looking away to watch Yuuri laughing with his old friends without anything holding him down. This is nice, she thought, Yuuri deserved to be happy just like before.
Victor was left stunned at her comment, hes been threatened many times before regarding Yuuri’s wellbeing from Phichit, Minako, Mari, Lilia, Yurio, practically everyone and now this Isla chick, does everyone think he is going to fuck up so bad that the threat of death and murder needs to be thrown around, he wondered.
“I know it's none of my business but Yuuri’s old high school girlfriend did…” but before Victor could even finish his sentence he was interrupted by isla.
“Look, I know your Yuuri’s fiancé or whatever but stay in your lane.” Isla said, taking a swing of the drink.
“They loved each other” Isla spoke up after some time, to fill the silence between Victor and herself. “When she died it broke yuuri…h-he shut everyone out…He started being reckless with himself…and when the one person who could help him was no longer here, we knew that he wasn’t going to listen no matter how hard we tried.”
Victor didn’t know how to respond or if he should even respond, what are you even meant to say to that. He knew that Yuuri, well you know, had some problems in the past regarding his mental health, but hearing it from someone else who was there was surprisingly much harder than he thought. He didn’t know what he should do, should he say something, go and comfort his fiancé. This train of thought was quickly cut of as Isla continued…
“It hurt him so bad that he gave up the one thing he had left of her…hockey. She was always there cheering him on, going to his matches. Yuuri was actually on track at playing professional hockey you know, but he gave it all up because no matter how hard he tried he couldn’t even hold the stupid stick without breaking down after she was gone…and none of us could help him because we weren’t her. You know how shitty that made us feel? Eventually though we all went separate ways, all moved on with lives..that is my biggest regret…splitting apart.”
“Um i don't know what to say to that '' Victor answered because truly he was stumped, he just listened to this woman he met only several hours ago pour her heart out to him about his yuuri's messed up love life.
“Nothing Victor, you say nothing. I didn’t tell all of this out of pity. I did it because I sure as hell know Yuuri is not going to tell you and I don't want you pushing him for answers you are never going to get. But he seems happy, so I guess you're not too bad” Isla responded calmly, begging to stand up but before she could take her first step she was stopped with a hand around her wrist.
Victor looked up at her waiting expectantly and then down at Yuuri who was having fun talking to his old friends but without removing his eyes away from his fiancé
Victor spoke up “Thank You...for telling me, i mean”
Isla followed Victor's eyes to see him staring at yuuri. “Whatever” she said “just don’t go walking on eggshells around him because of what i said.” And with that she pulled her wrist out of Victor's grasp and left.
Victor was left staring at his soon to be husband until both him and yuuri locked eyes. His yuuri smiled up at him with nothing but an expression of pure love.
How did Victor end up this lucky he will never know.
