Chapter Text
If someone had showed Tim his future four years, he would of laughed in their face. If they had shown him how much he had grown and changed. How he had fallen in love with the one person he tried his best to keep at arm’s length he would of scoffed at them.
But yet. Here he was. Absolutely in love with Lucy Chen his former rookie, his Boot.
He never would of guessed that she would be the one to make him believe in love again. Because she did. She absolutely reignited his belief in love. Everyday spent with her, made him realize that everything that happened with Isabel led him straight to her.
Isabel had been his wife, his first love a whirlwind romance. They had connected on levels he had never connected with before. She had shown him he was more than his father’s abuse. They had their problems of course, and when Isabel left without a single word. He fell apart
He became a empty shell of himself. Gruff, rude and angry. He was by the book, nobody faulted him for that but his scars.. emotional and physical kept rearing their ugly heads and he just became a version of himself that he didn’t like. That is until her.
Lucy came into his life full of sunshine and happiness and sprinkled it in his life even if he didn’t want it. She saved him over and over again. She called him out on his bullshit. He was an asshole to her, he never denied it and she still wanted to be near him. She was by far the best thing that could ever happen to him and she was his.
He woke up everyday with her in his bed, warm and perfect. He saw her at the station everyday shooting her a small smile. He came home to her everyday and she would kiss him and say she missed him as if they didn’t see each other through out the day.
It wasn’t perfect, what relationship is? They fought sometimes, feelings were hurt, egos were big. They would go to bed angry sometimes but wake up in the middle of the night and talk. Because they were worth the effort
But Tim vowed never to let her go. To hold on to her as tight as he could because losing her was not an option. Isabel was his first love, he would always care for her and remember the good times. But Lucy?
Lucy was the love of his life. His soulmate. His everything. His joy. His sunshine.
She made everything better for him. And no matter how much she protested that he changed because he put the work in, he would always tell her she made him a better man.
He never thought he would love again. He never thought he would be standing in front of his friends and family with Angela by his side and Grey officiating. He never thought he would see Lucy in a white dress facing him with so much love in her eyes it made him want to collapse. But here he was. Lucy looked beautiful as he always imagined she would, he never thought that he would be the one to say everything he was feeling about her with such emotion. He usually could hold it in but today..
Grey was saying something but Tim couldn’t keep his eyes off Lucy. Her hair was beautiful pulled up in a simple updo. Her wedding dress simple but so her. She always looked beautiful and perfect but today it almost took Tim’s breath away.
“Lucy and Tim have chosen to write their own vows.” He heard Grey say and he felt Angela nudge him, he looked back to see she was trying to hold back tears and he smiled. When he had asked Lucy to marry him, he had also made a big deal of asking Angela to be his Best Woman (not to be confused with his favorite woman-Lucy). Because Angela was his best friend and he owed her a lot too.
Tim cleared his throat, he wasn’t sure he would be able to get through this without completely breaking down. But he would try because he wanted Lucy to know how much he loved her and how amazing she was. He wasn’t a speech giver or a talker but he would do anything if it made Lucy smile.
“Lucy, when I first met you, I knew I was doomed. You were an absolute pain in my ass. You talked too much, you would annoy me. I would just want silence and here you were blasting Taylor Swift in the shop and singing along.”
There was laughter in the crowd but all Tim could focus on was Lucy her eyes alight with amusement.
“Despite all that, despite me trying to push you away you worked your way into my heart. You challenged me like nobody has before. You saw me for me. You called me on all my shit no matter how mad I got when you did. You knew I had scars and trauma and you showed me it was ok because it made me stronger despite everything I had been through. You trusted me with every inch of your being.”
He saw Lucy swallow and her eyes alight with tears. He pushed on even as his hands shook making the paper shake. His voice was uneven as he continued.
“I didn’t mean to fall in love with my boot. I didn’t I tried not to, I tried to deny my feelings for you. I tried to push you away, I tried to push you toward UC school and other men. But it didn’t matter because you ruined me in the best way possible. You and I are so different but when we are together we are one and we make a great team.”
Lucy was full on crying now and if he wasn’t mistaken glaring at him through her tears for making her cry. Tim coughed out a laugh, trying to hold himself together.
“I love you so much Lucy. I didn’t mean to fall for my boot. But I am so glad I did and I’m so glad it was you. You make me so much better and you are by far the greatest thing that has ever happened to me. I am glad you never gave up on me. I’m so ready to begin the rest of our lives together. ”
Tim heard Angela crying behind him and he saw Tamara giving Lucy a tissue and then dabbing her eyes. He grinned at Lucy and she just shook her head smiling.
I love you she mouthed just for him.
Tim from four years ago never would of imagined this would be his life. But he wouldn’t change it for the world because it led him straight to the most important person in his life. The most amazing, beautiful person who was about to become his wife.
Lucy Chen. His former rookie. His boot.
He didn’t mean to fall in love with his boot but he did and he was so glad he did.
