Silent waffles

Summary:

Wylan is autistic. That's it.

Work Text:

"Wylan, can you bomb open the safe door?" Kaz asked. Wylan pulled his backpack off his back: "Sure. But isn't that kind of your job?" "We knocked out the guards, the dogs we didn't know about started barking... By now everyone knows that we're here, no need to be careful anymore, just melt the door open." Wylan laughed silently and attached the bomb to the safe.

Then he gave Kaz a match and walked a few meters away, covering his ears. "Are you being autistic or will that kill my ears?" Kaz asked but didn't get an answer. He sighed and light the match.

Even though he had covered his ears, Wylan flinched when the bomb went off. Kaz who had also covered his ears had expected much worse. He just shrugged and opened up the safe, taking out what he was searching for.

Wylan played with his fingers, his lips pressed into a thin line. "Are you okay?" Kaz asked and shoved the papers into his pocket. Wylan nodded but Kaz didn't believe him. In the end, he knew Wylan's stims. He looked at his watch. Just about half an hour more and they would be back in the Slat. "We're back home soon, don't worry." Kaz softly stroked through Wylan's hair.

Wylan nodded and followed Kaz out of the office they'd broken into. They barely made it down the stairs when Wylan started to feel dizzy. The railing of the stairs was too far away and Wylan knew Kaz wouldn't like if he grabbed onto him. So he ended up just falling.

"There he goes." Kaz mumbled, letting his cane fall to the ground so he could catch Wylan before he hit the ground. He picked Wylan up completely, holding him like an oversized baby now. Wylan wasn't really unconscious but he also definitly wasn't really clear and Kaz didn't want to risk him falling again.

"Is he okay?"

Kaz flinched a tiny bit. He had been too concentrated on Wylan to notice Inej. "Yeah, I assume he just hasn't eaten again and now his body is giving out. Can you take my cane?" Inej nodded and picked up Kaz' cane.

Kaz was heavyly limping but he refused to put Wylan down. He wouldn't be able to hold himself on his feet anyway. And even though Inej was a lot stronger than she looked, she wouldn't be able to carry Wylan back to the Slat.

Kaz gave his best not to think about the pain in his leg. He wasn't sure if he would be able to carry Wylan all the way back to the Slat. But he'd told Jesper and all the others that they would meet back at the Slat. Now he regretted that decision.

"Do you want me to get Jesper? Or maybe Matthias? They're for sure able to carry Wylan back to-" "I'm fine." Kaz said, "We'll make a stop and get some waffles into him. Tell that to Jesper. And tell him to bring my cane with him because I'm very sure my leg will give out like Wylan's body." Inej nodded. Caring, she laid her hand on Wylan's leg for a moment, then she disappeared into the night with Kaz' cane.

Wylan put a bunch of applesauce on a waffle, then laid another waffle on top. "That will never fit into your mouth." Kaz said. "Oh, I put bigger things into my mouth." Wylan grinned cheekily. Kaz pushed his plate away from himself: "I'm not hungry anymore."

Wylan laughed and picked up his waffle-sandwich, took a big bite out of it. He had already eaten half a glass of applesauce while wating for his waffles.

"Hey. Are you guys okay? What happened?" Jesper asked. The panic in his voice was very clear. Worried, he looked at Kaz and then back to Wylan. Wylan smiled at him, his ears flushing pink, his mouth smeared with applesauce.

Kaz chuckled: "We're fine. Wylan didn't eat and he fainted. We just stopped to get some food into him, I woudln't have been able to carry him all the way back home. And thanks for the cane."

"Did you get hurt?" Jesper asked and sat down with Wylan, gave him a worried kiss on the temple. "No, I'm fine." Wylan smiled, "I just... You know how it is..." He shrugged and leaned against his boyfriend.

"Autism..." he mumbled just to be sure Jesper got what he meant. "I know. I'm sorry, I forgot too. I'm not even sure when I last ate." Kaz shoved his plate over to him: "Here, you can have mine. I ate a while ago and Wylan ruined my appetite anyways." "I made a dick-joke. It was a good one." "I'm sure it was." Jesper smiled and gave his boyfriend a soft kiss.

Wylan licked the sauce of his finger and happily flapped his hands. Jesper smiled and kissed him softly, pulling him even closer.

"I'm about to make you both a reminder too eat. I don't know who let a guy with ADHD date a guy with autism but I'm suprised the two of you haven't starved to death yet." "Besides starving it works very great with us, thank you very much." Jesper snapped back at him. Kaz just laughed it off.

He knew their relationship was great. It was probably the healthiest one Kaz knew. And normally, they managed to take care of eachother or themselves pretty well. Wylan had even somehow managed to stop Jesper from gambling.

Just... Sometimes they both would end up forgetting to eat or stay hydrated. And Kaz was pretty done with having one them faint next to him. Especially, because he was barely able to carry Jesper.

Kaz and Jesper talked about the news in Ketterdam, some thing that had happened in the Barrel. Wylan was just sitting next to them, happily eating his waffle-sandwich, his mouth still smeared with applesauce. Jesper was softly petting Wylan's hair.

"Are you feeling better?" Kaz asked and looked back to Wylan. He nodded and accidently kicked Jesper under the table when he started to move his foot like a dog would wag its tail.  He didn't even realize it and since it didn't hurt Jesper wouldn't bring it up.

It was one of his stims that showed that he was happy. There was no need to ruin it over nothing.

Instead Jesper grabbed a napkin and wiped over Wylan's mouth to get rid off the mess his boyfriend had made in his own face. "You look like an apple exploded in your face." he laughed. Wylan just shrugged. He was very happy with his waffles and the unholy anmount of applesauce between them.

He kept wagging his foot under the table while he was eating up but Jesper started to suspect that he had gone non-verbal anyway. He didn't have a problem with that but he had started to notice the signs. Kaz either didn't seem to notice or didn't really care either. He just kept talking to Wylan, accepted nodding, shrugging or shaking his head as an answer, sometimes switched to smalltalk with Jesper. He was acting like everything was normal. And it was.

Wylan seemed fine and there weren't any signs that he was about to have a meltdown or something like that. So Jesper didn't really worry.

"I'll pay. We'll meet outside, I'll be right back." Kaz said and got up, putting more weight than usual on the cane. Carrying Wylan must have been really painful. His leg must be killing him right now. And Jesper would offer help but he knew Kaz wouldn't take it anyway. So he grabbed Wylan's jacket and helped him put it on because he was a bit uncoordinated sometimes.

They waited outside for Kaz. Jesper had laid his arms around Wylan, softly looking down on him. "Are you okay? Ready to go home?" Wylan nodded, a sweet smile on his face that made Jesper feel like he could melt. "Did you go non-verbal, Sunshine?" Shyly, Wylan pulled his shoulders and leaned his forehead against against Jesper's chest to be able to hide from him.

"It's okay." Jesper smiled and gave him a soft kiss on the hair, "Any reason?" Wylan shrugged and looked back up to Jesper. "Just a long day and you need some time to process everything?" Wylan nodded and Jesper gave him another kiss - this time on the tip of his nose.

"You two are disgusting. Ready to go home?" Kaz asked when he stepped out of the small restaurant. He would never admit that Wylan and Jesper actually made a very cute couple.

But he didn't have to anyway. They all knew he thought that.

"Yes, let's go." "Nobody's gonna faint? Because I'm not carrying anyone again. Not today, at least." "No worries, we are all fine. Now stop pretending you're a crumpy old man and not just fucking 18 years old." Wylan couldn't hold back a snorted laugh. Jesper grinned and Kaz just rolled his eyes at them.

Saints, he loved those idiots but sometimes he was really done with them. No right now, though. He actually liked the evening. At least, after Wylan had eaten enough to be better and not to be carried.

Not like Jesper wouldn't carry him anyway... In fact, Wylan was already piggybacking on Jesper because of course he was.
