you talk all that sweet talk

Summary:

At first Jeongguk thinks that he breaks his neck with the way he snaps his head so fast that he’s directly facing Taehyung. He can’t believe his ears….did Taehyung just say what Jeongguk heard him say? Did he really just say that? “You’re my husband?” He asks and even if he’s still a bit under and groggy, he can hear the awe in his own voice. “Are you sure?”

-

Or; Jeongguk wakes up from surgery still a bit confused and with the most beautiful man in the world standing next to him.

Notes:

Inspired by that video of that husband being in awe of his wife after waking up from surgery.

Work Text:

Before Jeongguk even opens his eyes, he can feel the heaviness of his own head. There’s this dull throbbing inside of his head, not pain, and it’s making him uncomfortable, to say the least.

He groans then, little by little coming back to life as his eyes tries to adjust to the bright light shining above him. The ceiling is white, so is the light, and seeing as how he has no idea where he is, he guesses that this must be heaven, there’s no other explanation. Jeongguk guesses that when people die, this is how they must feel- confused and slightly in pain.

“Well, well, well,” A velvety smooth voice speaks beside him and Jeongguk turns his head fast, which he immediately regrets, seeing as how it makes his head throb harder. He closes his eyes and tries to stabilize himself. There’s a giggle from the person and it sounds sweet, cute almost. “Look who’s finally awake.”

After what seem like a minute, Jeongguk finally opens his eyes, first the right one, then the left. His sight is a little blurry at first but as his eyes come into focus, he’s most definitely sure that he’s in heaven. Because…. wow . Wow. Besides him stands an angel, he’s sure. There isn’t another way to put it. The man is beautiful, ethereal and angelic. With skin baby smooth, face beyond words, smile carved by the gods themselves, Jeongguk’s sure that the sun must’ve kissed the man, because he looks like a blessing in the form of human.

It hits Jeongguk then that he’s dead. He really must be if an angel is besides him. Huh, it’s weird, he always thought angels had wings but this one doesn’t….it’s fine, he’ll ask about it later. He sighs then, bringing a hand up to his eye and rubbing it. “How long have I been dead?”

The angel’s face morphs into a confused expression as the question leaves Jeongguk’s lips. He doesn’t blame him- not really, he doesn’t think he can ever put blame on this beauty. “What do you mean?” He asks as he tilts his head to the side, fluffy hair framing his face perfectly.

“I’m in heaven?” Jeongguk replies, but it comes out more like a question and has the man holding back a cute smile. “You’re an angel, right?”

This time, the angel doesn’t hold back his smile, eyes crinkling as his lips turn upwards. He looks so fuc- shit, he probably can’t swear anymore. He shakes his head, thinks, he looks so freaking gorgeous. The angel then shakes his head, takes a breath before he leans in. “You’re not dead and I’m not an angel,” He says through a smile. “You actually just woke up from surgery. You broke your leg in three different places and we had to put you under.”

Huh, Jeongguk thinks, turning his head away from the beautiful, very beautiful, man. That explains the medical equipment around them that he’s just now noticing. That also explains the throbbing and pain he’s feeling. But that doesn’t explain why the most beautiful man in the entire world is standing next to him. “Who are you? Are you some sort of person that the doctor sends to help people feel better because you’re so pretty?”

“I am the doctor,” The angel laughs and Jeongguk is struck with this tingly feeling inside of his chest. The sound is melodic and pretty and Jeongguk wonders if he can record the sound and listen to it for the rest of his life. “My name is Taehyung,” The man- Taehyung- says once he’s done laughing.

Taehyung. God, even his name is beautiful, Jeongguk thinks as he stares at him. “Wow,” He can’t help but let out, completely in awe at how someone can be this ethereal. “Are you sure you’re not a model? You’re the prettiest person I’ve ever seen.”

“Thank you,” Taehyung smiles, a pretty blush on his cheeks. He tries to hide it with his smile, but Jeongguk can see it even in his dizzy state. “I’m also your husband, so you should know that you’ve just scored major brownie points.”

At first Jeongguk thinks that he breaks his neck with the way he snaps his face so fast that he’s directly facing Taehyung. He can’t believe his ears….did Taehyung just say what Jeongguk heard him say? Did he really just say that? “You’re my husband?” He asks and even if he’s still a bit under and groggy, he can hear the awe in his own voice. “Are you sure?”

There’s that melodic laugh again, Taehyung throwing his head back as he covers his mouth whilst he’s laughing. It take a good 30 seconds for him to calm down before he’s looking back at Jeongguk and he can’t help but stare. God, he’s gorgeous. “I’m pretty sure, yeah,” He smiles as he brings up one of his hands and lets it rest on Jeongguk’s arm. He feels like he’s burning just from the the touch. “I wouldn’t have told you otherwise if I wasn’t positive.”

Jeongguk needs a moment to collect his thoughts. He doesn’t know how he can’t remember this man, seeing as how he leaves Jeongguk breathless, but he’s sure as hell glad that about the news. This is a pleasantly nice gift when waking up. “We’re married?” He asks again, just to make sure that this isn’t a dream and that he heard it right the first few times. “For how long?”

“A good eight years,” Taehyung speaks softly, letting his hand travel from Jeongguk’s bicep to his face and he caresses the skin there. Jeongguk can’t help but lean into the soft touch. “You don’t remember?”

“I think I would’ve remembered marrying the most beautiful man in the universe,” Jeongguk can’t help but say back, because the dizziness and confusion in his head can’t let it be otherwise- also because this man, his husband, deserves to know how in awe he’s leaving Jeongguk. “Do we have a family?” He asks, because he wants to know if this model of a man really is his.

“We have a little dog,” Taehyung laughs softly and Jeongguk can see why he decided to fall in love with him. Wow. Wow, Jeongguk really did hit the jackpot with this. “His name is Yeontan. You got him for me as an anniversary gift a year back.”

Jeongguk just nods, trying to be careful with his head, not wanting to move it too much. “Did I sell my kidney or something so that you would marry me?” Because Jeongguk still doesn’t believe him, needs to hear how he got so lucky as to end up with this gorgeous human being.

Taehyung laughs again as he pulls his hand back and Jeongguk almost whines, wanting the softness of his touch on his skin again. “Go back to sleep, okay? You’re still confused from the anesthetics.”

“Do we….do we kiss?” Jeongguk’s full of curiosity now, wanting to know everything and anything from the details of this marriage that he’s supposedly in. “And if we do, can you kiss me now?”

There’s a grin on Taehyung’s face as he shakes his head, his eyes shining with amusement as he shifts from his one foot to the other. There’s another person in the room, probably a nurse, but Jeongguk’s focus is on Taehyung and Taehyung only. “I’m not gonna kiss you when you barely even know who you are. Besides, I’m still working.”

Jeongguk is really struggling to wrap his head around this entire situation. He wakes up and suddenly he’s married to someone so beautiful that even words aren’t enough to describe him. He shakes his head, glances upwards towards the ceiling but then looks back at Taehyung’s face again. “Wow,” He can’t help it. He really can’t. “I must’ve saved an entire country in my past life to be that lucky so that I got to marry you.”

“You don’t know what you’re saying,” Taehyung grins, crossing his arms over his chest. Even his arms are beautiful and Jeongguk wonder how that’s possible. “You’re gonna be embarrassed when I tell you about this in the morning.”

“I don’t care, baby,” Jeongguk lets the petname slip, but oh well. This is his husband and Jeongguk has the right to call him any  loving name if he wants to….he just wants to make sure, once again. “Can I call you baby? Or do I call you something else? Angel? Darling? Sweetheart?”

“Just Taehyung is fine for now, okay?” There’s this soft tone to Taehyung’s voice, like he genuinely cares and Jeongguk’s heart bursts up in flames because yes, that’s who he married. “Try to get some more sleep, okay?”

“Can you climb in bed with me?” Jeongguk asks, because he really just wants to hold this beautiful man.

“I wish I could,” Taehyung shakes his head, smile somewhere between soft and amused and it’s very difficult for Jeongguk to look away. Damn. He really must’ve done something right in his life for him to have gotten married to Taehyung.

He scoots himself to one side of the bed, lifting the covers up and making space so that his husband can fit in besides him. “I made space for you.”

“I’m still working and you’re still confused,” Taehyung explains as he takes the cover from Jeongguk’s hands and lets it down. He tucks it into Jeongguk’s side and takes a tiny step back from the bed.

Jeongguk’s head is starting to spin again and he feels the tiredness crawling its way back into his bones. But...he can’t sleep now. There’s still a few things he needs to find out. “Can I,” He mumbles, blinking his eyes open lazily. “Can I see your ring?”

Taehyung looks down at him, then his hand before he decides that he probably won’t win the fight against him. He places his hand in front of Jeongguk and he takes the smooth, soft hand into his own. He opens his eyes and shakes his head and wow….he must’ve really loved Taehyung because the ring looks expensive. He takes the ring off Taehyung’s finger, looks it over. On the inside, there’s an inscription that reads “JK + TH” and heh, Jeongguk thinks as a smile takes over his face, at least this confirms that Taehyung is his husband.

Taehyung takes his ring out of his hands and places it on his finger again, seeing that Jeongguk is starting to fall asleep again. He looks adorable, eyes fighting to stay open and mouth pulled into a pout. He guides Jeongguk to lay back down on his bed and leans down, wiping away the hair that’s on his forehead. He places a kiss there, on the bare skin and feels the eyes burning on him when he pulls away. Jeongguk is still looking at him like he’s in awe. “Go to sleep,” Taehyung murmurs softly, watching as his husband looks at him with those cute little eyes.

“Promise,” Jeongguk starts, breathing in and out softly as he turns his head to the side again to face Taehyung fully. “Promise me that you’re still gonna be married to me when I wake up?”

Taehyung can’t help but let out a soft giggle, taking the words that Jeongguk’s spoken in the last few minutes to heart. “I promise I’ll still be married to you when you wake up.”

Jeongguk just nods then, head lulling to the side as sleep starts to take over him. He’s almost asleep when he murmurs, “Can’t believe I married the most beautiful man on earth,” and then he’s asleep and it makes Taehyung’s heart dance with nothing but love and adoration.

He places one last kiss on Jeongguk’s forehead before he turns around walks out of the room, still having work to do.

At least he knows now that Jeongguk still finds him beautiful even after all these years.

-

Later, when Jeongguk’s fine and completely awake, Taehyung tells him the story with a little laugh and he feels his heart melt all over again when Jeongguk takes his hand and kisses the back of it, eyes shining with love. “Did I lie, though?”
