Work Text:
10 Years.
Has 10 years really gone by already?
Ignis could have sweared that he was 22 yesterday.
But he actually turned 32 a couple days ago. Not that he would have remembered then anyways.
He would have just put it on the back burner and just focus on Noctis. Like he always did.
Noct probably would have attempted to make him a cake but he would somehow burn it and then Ignis would have to finish making the cake himself.
It was always a fond memory of Ignis, since him and Noct truly got to bond. Talking life, how things are going, etc etc.
Now, it’s a bitter sweet memory for Ignis. Since he now knows that Noct, once he returns will have to sacrifice himself to bring back to light.
He tried. He really tried to figure out a way to go around this. He tried his damnest to persuade Noct to stop his Journey but he wasn’t having none of it. Ignis understood. Too many people have died. Too many.
But still, He tried. He tried to research anything he could find to stop Noct’s fate. But Alas, there was nothing he could other be the last thing he saw before,
Before Noct would die.
Ignis still had to do research. Something about Ardyn had always bothered him.
Well, he’s always BEEN bothered by Ardyn but he’s always bothered by his, seemingly mysterious origins.
That day, that day he “trapped’ Noct in the crystal, still haunts Him to this day but.. what was his connection?
Well Talcott had offered him to take him to the ancient ruins to learn more about Ardyn and the ruined world. He agreed and is waiting for him to pick him up.
The last few days were hard on Ignis. He had been noticing weird things about his body lately but Gladio just told that it was him getting older and his body is naturally aging, which might be slightly true but Ignis was sure it was more than that but it would have to wait for later.
Then Talcott’s truck pulled up to Ignis’s front side.
“Hey Iggy.” He smiled awkwardly but Ignis didn’t noticed.
“Nice to see you again Talcott. Thank you again for agreeing to take me to the ancient ruins so I can study more about Ardyn.” He got into the left side of the truck and buckled up before nodding for Talcott to drive.
It was quiet but it didn’t feel awkward. Talcott had grown so much. He wasn’t the little 7 year old anymore, he was a 17 year old who could hold his own. He could fight on his own. Ignis, in a way, couldn’t have been more proud. He literally watched Talcott grow up and he’s almost an adult.
Ignis also felt sad that Talcott had to grow up and fight in this literal dark world. Talcott adjusted ok but he shouldn’t have too constantly watch his back for daemons all the time.
Ignis could feel that they were getting close and Talcott confirmed that.
“We’re almost there. Though once we get there, I’m going in with you.” He stated.
Ignis didn’t say anything. Ignis didn’t actually minded him going with him. He could use the company he admitted to himself.
“I’m pretty curious myself about his origins myself.” He admitted.
Ignis nodded. “Let’s just hope Curiosity won’t kill us.”
Just after he finished, he felt a minor pain in the middle of his stomach. He just assumed they were just stomach pains and they would go away, which they did. Plus they didn’t hurt too badly.
They entered in the ruins. Dark, quiet, too quiet. Ignis didn’t like anything that’s too quiet. It usually means trouble but Talcott assured that it was safe, despite that Ignis felt otherwise.
Ignis walked behind Talcott for a few minutes before he felt the pain again but it was heavier and more painful that the last one.
Talcott immediately noticed Ignis clutching his stomach and asked “Are you feeling ok Iggy? We can go bac-
“No!” He shouted. Talcott backed up and raised his hands in defense.
“Sorry Iggy. Just asking.” He lowered his head and kept walking.
“Just… don’t worry about me.” He muttered hoping that he didn’t hear him. He did hear it and was not going to let this go.
“So… Ardyn used to be a …good guy?” Talcott said, confused. Understandable given everything Ardyn has taken from them.
Ignis nodded. “It seems that way.” He wondered what went wrong. Ardyn seem like a hero to those people, why? Just why?
Ignis could feel the pain again but he managed to hide it this time but he didn’t understood why he was feeling this pain. This isn’t getting older, this is something else and it was getting harder to hide. It was becoming stronger and stronger in his Abdomen but continued on.
Talcott was trying to read some of the broken statues but to no avail.
Meanwhile, Ignis was trying to manage his pain. He wanted to scream so badly but he didn’t wanna attract daemons and scare Talcott, so he suffered in silence.
Ignis and Talcott was able to a little bit more about Ardyn and their situation but there was no information on how to save Noct. Ignis couldn’t have been more disappointed. He really couldn’t save Noct, no matter how he tried. No amount of research, will ever save Noct.
After 2 hours of being there, they left with the little info they know. They weren’t 100% sure what to make about all of it but they had to tell the others, for sure.
“Aaahhh!” Ignis fell on his knees while still clutching
his stomach. It was the strongest stomach pain he felt and it was too much to bare.
“Iggy! Oh my god, what’s wrong?!” Talcott immediately got to Ignis’s level and tried to raise him back up but Ignis couldn’t move. He had to let the pain pass.
“I-I don’t know! Just… let it pass.” He tried to reassure and stay calm but he was panting and he wasn’t 100% sure what else he could try to say.
Talcott only stood there. Hoping that the pain will pass. After about 15 minutes, it eventually did.
Ignis could only let a sigh of relief but he knew that it would be long until another one would come.
“Talcott… Talcott you have to take me to the hospital.” He muttered out but Talcott was already one it.
“Oh, you didn’t have to tell twice!” He raised him up again, this time succeeding and quickly getting Ignis to the left side of car and rushing to get the car started.
Ignis only breathed in and out as he put his hand on his stomach and wondered what the hell is going on.
The was the last thing he remembered before he passed out.
When he woke up, he was in a hospital bed with bright lights on him that he felt very intensely. The room was empty (except him of course) with other medical equipment there. There was a television in front of him but it was off. Ignis sat up a little bit to get more comfortable.
He noticed that he wasn’t feeling any pain anymore, which was good since it was one of the most painful things he’s ever felt in his life (aside from the ring of course) but he wondered what was the cause of his pain to begin with? Ignis keeps a very healthy diet and stays away from anything that upsets his stomach, so what was the cause of his pain? Hopefully he wouldn’t have to wait long.
A few minutes after he woke up, a nurse came in and saw that Ignis awake. They asked the usual questions like ‘How are you feeling? Do you need anything?’ Etc. He shook his head no. He was feeling alright and he didn’t need anything in particular other answers for his sudden pain.
The nurse explained that the doctor would be with him in a few minutes which, really means 30 minutes but Ignis nodded as always.
Ignis tried to enjoy some television but the shows that were playing were very boring so he didn’t pay attention much to what was going on.
Finally, the doctor came.
“Hello Mr. Scientia, how are you feeling?” They asked politely.
“I’m… fine.” He answered. He really just wanted them to get to the point.
“That’s good. Your friend rushed you in like you were dying.” They chuckled a bit. Ignis did not find it funny.
“So… I’m fine right?” Ignis asked hoping that there isn’t anything else he had to worry about.
The doctor coughed before continuing “Actually… there is a cause to the pain you felt earlier.” Clearly They were unsure on how to deliver the news to Ignis and he saw right though them. He could feel there Uncomfortability but Ignis wanted to know.
“What is it?”
“Your Pregnant.” They answered straightforwardly.
Ignis sat there in silence for what seems in eternity. Shocked by the news.
‘No. There’s no way I’m Pregnant.’ He thought to himself.
Ignis shook his head. “There’s no way…” he muttered.
The doctor knew that Ignis was blind so they couldn’t do an ultrasound on him to prove it but they got other idea.
“Would you like to hear the heart beat?”
“The heart?”
“Yes.”
Ignis thought for a moment before nodding. There’s just no way but he wanted to be sure.
The doc got the gel and put it on Ignis’s stomach before trying to find the baby so they could actually hear it.
Ignis is just nervous the entire time. There’s no way, there’s no wa-
Then he hears a beat. A heart beat. Ignis was only in shock.
“Do you hear it?” They stupidly ask. Of course he can hear it.
Ignis nodded. He was actually pregnant. He was actually carrying a child.
“They baby’s pretty far. If I had to guess, your probably about 15 weeks.” They estimated.
Ignis was completely lost for words. How could he not realize he was pregnant?
“Oh and if you were wondering why your were in pain, I imagine it’s due to all the stress you’ve been putting on your baby. I know you hunt, so that might be it.”
He wanted to cry. He really wanted to but he didn’t. It was a lot to take in. He wasn’t sure how to take in all of this.
The doc eventually stopped the Machine and clean off the gel from Ignis’s belly.
“You baby is in good health but take it easy. You could have a miscarriage.” They warned.
Ignis agreed but he didn’t know when Noct would come back and he was going to go with him, Pregnant or not.
Ignis kept his pregnancy hidden from everyone, Though at 15 weeks, he wasn’t sure how. Ignis did feel a small bump in his thin frame but it wasn’t noticeable, yet. He eventually told Talcott that it was stomach pains and he was taking some medication for it and Talcott believed him.
Then, a week after he found he was pregnant, Noct returned.
Noct came back and true to his word, Ignis was going with him. He knew that he was putting his baby in danger but he promised to stand with Noct. He wanted to be the last thing that Noctis would see and not his own slowly dying body.
“Noct! It’s you! It’s really you!” Prompto shouted out, happily.
“Is it? I haven’t noticed.” Noct replied back playfully.
“Well well, you kept us waiting.” Ignis said smiling before he suddenly felt an arm on his chest.
“Not like I wanted to. We’ve got catching up to do.”
Catching up they did. They talked for hours. They were having fun being together as a group again. They ate some food that Ignis made, which he liked but hated the smell but he chalk that up to the pregnancy. No one else knew that Ignis was pregnant and putting himself and his unborn child as risk. No one saw the bump. No one suspected a thing.
Everyone acted like everything was fine but they knew. They knew what they dreaded was happening. Just wanted to pretend that it wasn’t happening. Everything is normal. Everything was fine.
After dinner, Prompto and Gladio headed in to get some sleep while Ignis cleaned up the dish’s.
Ugh the smell. He couldn’t stand it.
Once that was done, he was about to head in himself when he noticed that Noct wasn’t inside.
Noct was standing over yonder, dreading what’s about to come.
Ignis went over to comfort him.
“Ya know, looking back, it wasn’t all bad.” He said in retrospect.
Ignis responded. “I suppose we had some fun along the way.”
“And our far share of trouble to. But I don’t have any regrets. Luna and you guys brought me this far and now, I’m on my own.”
Ignis objected. “Uh no. You won’t be going alone. I’ll-
“No. You’re right. I mean I wouldn’t made this far without you guys. Why stop now? In the end, I might not have you at my side, but I’ll always have you in my heart.” He bought his hand on Ignis’s left shoulder while he struggles not to cry.
“Thanks. Thanks for everything Iggy.” Noct smiles.
Ignis gets a Flashback to the first time he ever saw him. A young, scared, three year old. He raised his hand for the little boy to shake, which gladly accepted and wasn’t afraid anymore.
Now, a much older Ignis does it again and Noctis gladly accepts while smilingly nodding at him.
A few tears came from Ignis. He knows Noct won’t live to meet his future niece or nephew and it breaks his heart.
He then takes Noct’s hand on put it on his now hard stomach.
Noct was confused at first but realized that his friend was pregnant once he felt Ignis’s hard stomach.
A few tears then came from Noct. He would never meet his future niece or nephew but he was determined to Bring back the light so they wouldn’t have to grow up in the dark.
5 months later, Ignis was now sitting in a hospital bed after successfully carrying the pregnancy to the 9 month and giving birth to a healthy baby girl.
Ignis was in complete amount of tears. He givin birth to a miracle and she now lives in a world of light. She wouldn’t have fight. She could live a normal life.
Ignis got her closer to him, while he tried to compose himself.
“I’m gonna call you, Zoey Noctis Scientia.” He stated at the newborn before giving her a small kiss on her little head.
She yawned before opening her bright blue eyes at him and cooing.
