The battle of the Somme, with English and French fighting the German Empire, was fought the very month Mother was born. In Dublin, Ireland, the Easter Rising took place. In America, President Wilson was reelected--Pancho Villa raided New Mexico--the National Park System and the Boy Scouts were founded. In Talladega, Alabama, a great lady was born---my mother.
