Jenna Sue • Design + DIY on Instagram: "How to make fluted concrete planters 👇🏼 1. Grab an old planter. I found these large fluted planters for an absolute steal at Walmart 🙌🏼 2. Attach flexible molding along the top to make them appear thicker. 3. Cover with waterproofing membrane (this step is optional, but I had some leftover so figured I’d use it!) 4. Apply microcement. I mixed in a little black paint and needed 3 coats to fully cover. I also brushed on a layer of taupe limewash paint for color variation. 5. Sand along the ridges to reveal the layers underneath. 6. Fill with shrubs and enjoy! I shared a more detailed step-by-step tutorial on my blog post with my best tips to make these look like real aged concrete. We used simple rectangular planters as a base. We then installed 3 x Volga Panels in the centre of each planter to create a slatted effect backing. We then proceeded to build a frame using some spare composite posts that we had from our recent garden renovation. Lastly, we put the plants in, filled the plant pots with white pebbles and added solar up & down wall lights to finish the look and TA DAAA ! Simple, but so effective!
