Telegraph plant \Telegraph plant\ (Bot.),
   A tick trefoil ({Meibomia gyrans} formerly {Desmodium
   gyrans}), native of the East Indies; it is a leguminous plant
   whose lateral leaflets jerk up and down like the arms of a
   semaphore, and also rotate on their axes.
