A catchphrase is a sound, word or phrase commonly used by a person. That may be simply out of habit, or in an attempt to deliver some form of image, like that of cuteness. In fiction, characters often use catchphrases as a way to deliver specific personality traits. Examples include Otohime Mutsumi's "ara ara" in Love Hina, Yang Wenli's "yare yare" in Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Misuzu's "gao" in AIR, Sakura's "hoe" in Card Captor Sakura, Suiseiseki's "desu" in Rozen Maiden, and Ayu's "uguu" in Kanon (as well as several other characters in the same show).
