Decent reimagination of the original episode, albeit slow and lengthy.
The original was nothing special and the expanded plot didn't really change that, but I guess was necessary for a movie length. Most of my enjoyment came from the nostalgic value and the updated visuals, rather than whatever was actually happening on screen.

but damn too many crying chirrun.
That's unfortunately a common issue with early Gundams... I appreciate the homage, but that's something I definitely don't miss.
I haven't seen original Gundam so I was confused and quite bored for the first 20/30 minutes..
Then, it started to be entertaining on it's own, with better introduction of Doan and the kids and Amuro's life there, where he gradually became more useful and much more liked
Finally, it presented some almost godlike moments when Amuro started to pilot his mecha again and when he continued to pilot it to save the whole situation, perfectly closed by him throwing Doan's mech into the sea.
Amuro doesn’t mess around, he just acts and wins!
I only wonder: Is it normal that the mech moves so slowly and crudely, even including the croaking metal sounds? I thought it was a cool touch on how some early prototypes of such machine would work in reality. Certainly much more believable than them doing the gymnastic moves they do with it in most other mecha aniíme..
All in all, definitely worthwhile even as a stand-alone, but damn I wished I had seen at least first 14 eps of Gundam, maybe even the botched original 15th one, I believe I would have enjoyed this tons more.
