In the skirts of the Sacred Mount Fuji, there is an enormous school built in a vast area. Its name is Buou Private Academy. All students are children of samurai and while encouraged to study, they spend their days preparing themselves in battles that sometimes put their life at risk.

A peaceful school at first glance, but even there a shadow of turbulence draws near: the rebellious underground activities of discontents that oppose the Tokugawa clan that rules the school. Against the dissident students, the student council executive committee formed the Toyotomi Faction and began their suppression. Now with the Toyotomi Hunting as it became known, the tyranny of the student council escalated further.

Kousaka Kyousuke, a normal seventeen-year-old high school student, has not gotten along with his fourteen-year-old sister, Kirino, in years. For longer than he can remember, Kirino has ignored him entirely and even abused him. It seemed their relationship would continue this way forever.

In what might have otherwise been just another day, however, he happens to find a DVD case for a mahou shoujo anime by the title of Hoshikuzu Witch Meruru (Stardust Witch Meruru) in his house's entranceway. He mentally inspects every member of his household as potential owners, but discards everyone as impossible cases. Upon carelessly checking the case contents, he is startled to find inside the case not the corresponding DVD, but instead an adult game called Imouto to Koi Shiyo! (Make Love with Little Sister!). Determined to find out the owner of the goods, Kyousuke brings Meruru up at the family dinner table in a roundabout manner. His parents react very negatively towards the subject, especially his father, a policeman with a firm personality and a prejudice against anime fans. Kirino, on the other hand, abruptly ends her meal and disappears into her bedroom. Concluding the box could only be hers, Kyousuke decides to bring the truth out of her.

In the dead of the night, Kirino violently wakes her brother up to talk to him, a completely unprecedented event. She drags him into her room and shows him a massive collection of cute girl-centered anime, manga and visual novels, a large share of which are adult games featuring young girls acting cute towards fictional older brothers, who are in fact the player. Kyousuke is taken aback, but now that Kirino has shared her secret with him, he is part of it, and there is no going back. He is about to be forcefully dragged into his sister's life, in a way he certainly neither expected nor would have chosen had he been given the chance.

* Based on a manga series written and illustrated by Wakaki Tamiki, serialised in Weekly Shounen Sunday.

Katsuragi Keima, a second-year high school student, is an avid dating sim gamer. He is known on the Internet as The Capturing God for his legendary skills to be able to capture any 2D girl in games. However, in his actual school life, Keima is known as otamegane.

Keima receives an e-mail offering him a contract to capture girls. He accepts what is thought to be a challenge, and a demon from Hell nicknamed Elsee appears. She asks for his cooperation to help her in catching the runaway spirits. These spirits hide themselves inside the girls' heart, and Elsee suggests that the only method to force the spirits out is by capturing their hearts — making them fall in love. Appalled by the idea, Keima refuses after clarifying to Elsee that he is only interested in capturing 2D girls and that he detests reality. Nevertheless, with the contract already accepted, Keima will have to help Elsee no matter what; if they fail, both Elsee and Keima will lose their heads.

Note: The first episode was shown during an event at Akihabara UDX theatre on Saturday, September 25, limited to 100 participants chosen through a postcard lottery. The television broadcast started on October 07, 2010. Otamegane is a derogatory portmanteau of the two words otaku and megane (glasses).

I Hate Not Wearing Them — It was love at first sight for the high school boy, Kamiya Jun'ichi, visiting the literature club, seeing Asou Kana without her glasses. Too bad that he hates glasses and that she never seems to take them off.

The Two After Taking Them OffIchinohe Aya, a currently popular idol, prefers to spend her breaks at a cafe wearing a disguise with glasses, reading books and relaxing instead of dating. * Based on Ubukata Tou's Mardock Scramble science fiction novel series.

Rune Ballot is a down-and-out teen prostitute in Mardock City. One day, she's picked up by an ambitious casino manager named Shell who gives her everything she could want. Renewed by a false innocence, a false past, and now the false life Shell has given her, Ballot feels grateful. However, she can't help but be curious about why he's done so much for her, so she does some research about his past on a computer. This turns out to be a mistake which will change her life greatly. When Shell finds out what she's done, he attempts to burn her to death by blowing up her car.

Due to the high crime rate in Mardock, a new law called "Scramble 09" has given police carte blanche to take extreme and otherwise illegal measures to revive crime witnesses. With this in mind, they allow a professor to bring Ballot back from the brink of death by reassembling her entire body with reinforced synthetic fiber. When she finally wakes up, her confused mental state eventually turns toward revenge as Shell is revealed as her killer.

Note 1: The Gonzo anime studio had planned an original video anime (OVA) project of Mardock Scramble in 2005, but had cancelled the project in December of 2006 for "various reasons."

Note 2: New York Anime Festival (NYAF) presented world premiere screening of Mardock Scramble –The First Compression– on Friday, October 8, 2010 at the New York Comic Con and Anime Festival. The film opened in Japanese theaters on November 6, 2010.
