Esguerra Farms' Kurobuta Cochinillo

I would like to take this opportunity to express my feelings about what I consider the absolutely finest pork available. The Kurobuta pigs from Esguerra Farms are raised in a fashion that just makes you proud—the first of its kind in the country (and probably the only kurobuta farm as of this writing!) The non-use of hormones or antibiotics as well as the fact that pigs have everything they could have sans stress was enough to get me to buy my pork from them. The meat is extremely marbled and a very dark rich color. It’s the best I have ever tasted. I became an instant fan and customer of Korubuta pork.

Sir Hermie Esguerra and Cochinillo

Esguerra Farms' proprietor, Mr. Hermie Esguerra mimics the Japanese method of raising Kurobuta Berkshire pigs which he learned and studied during his visits to Japan. By doing so, the flavor of pork his farm in Lipa City offers is intense, and the texture, is sublime. Their Cochinillo is another story altogether. These are mostly milk-fed, suckling pigs which are brined and roasted for hours until crisp. Their Kurobuta Cochinillo is the first of its kind in the market. I can testify that Esguerra Cochinillo has a natural clean and almost buttery taste. It is also juicier and tastier plus far more tender than the rest I've previously tried in the market.

Esguerra Farms raises Kurobuta, the Japanese term for "black pig." But not just any black pig! Kurobuta is a coveted title reserved for purebred Berkshire pigs raised with the utmost care and accuracy.

The health of the Kurobuta pigs is the first focus at Esguerra Farms. They're enjoying the dream, frolicking freely in Batangas' spacious, stress-free meadows. The barns are deliberately planned to provide little stress during the pigs' many life stages, and these joyful hogs are even offered music therapy.

Esguerra Farms' has an assortment of Kurobuta offerings such as  Tomahawk, coppa, ribeye, and more - each bite is a taste explosion that will leave you wanting more. It's no surprise that top-tier restaurants and elite hotels can't get enough of this premium pork. Esguerra Farms caters to the dietary needs of every Filipino family with domestic cuts and processed foods for health-conscious households.

If there's a special occasion, don't forget to try their milk-fed Berkshire Suckling Pig, better known as Cochinillo weighing 5 to 10 kilos. It is a treat you don't want to miss!. It's a feast fit for royalty, with crispy skin and juicy, ultra-tender flesh that erupts into delicious savory sensations in your mouth.

Esguerra Farms’ Kurobuta and other meat products, visit the Esguerra Kurobuta Pure Berkshire Meat Shop at Herma Building, located at 94 Scout Rallos Street, Bgy. Sacred Heart, Quezon City, or stop by the Esguerra Farms Pasalubong Center, located near the entrance of Esguerra Farms & Stud Inc. along Indian Tree Street, Lipa City, Batangas. You can also place your orders online through its official website, www.esguerrakurobuta.com, or reach its sales team via email at esguerrakurobuta@esguerrafarms.com.

The Relief Brought Mint Relief Soft Gel Capsule for Tummy Aches

Mint Relief eases tummy pain, indigestion, flatulence, dysmenorrhea and many others.

Mint is the name for over a dozen plant.species which includes peppermint and spearmint, both belong to the genus Mentha. These plants are more popularly known for the cooling sensation they impart. They are usually added to refreshing drinks for both aesthetic reasons and for its thirst-quenching cooling effect. They can give extra boost to any drink or food regardless if they are fresh or dried. Mint is a popular ingredient in several foods and beverages, ranging from salads to teas and alcoholic beverages, sauces even some desserts. But when they're used for food supplements, how do you think these mint will fare?

I recently tried using Mint Relief, a newly launched food supplement that is believed to relieve tummy aches, flatulence, indigestion, IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), dyspepsia, and even dysmenorrhea. Mint Relief is said to be made from all-natural ingredients with both peppermint and spearmint components.

I had IBS quite recently and I needed something to help ease the pain and discomfort. It's a common digestive tract disorder characterized by digestive symptoms like stomach pain, gas, bloating, and changes in bowel habits. Upon taking Mint Relief, I noticed that it contains a compound called menthol which has helped alleviate my IBS symptoms through its relaxing effects on the muscles of the digestive tract.

Mint may also help relieve indigestion as well as other digestive problems such as upset stomach. Indigestion may occur when food sits in the stomach for too long before passing into the rest of the digestive tract. Multiple studies have been shown that food passes through the stomach quicker when people take peppermint based food supplements like Mint Relief with meals could ease out symptoms from indigestion.

Mint Relief speeds up mint's ability to relieve indigestion by using peppermint and spearmint in one food supplement soft gel. You really can't go wrong adding some mint supplement to your diet. I have just proven it myself. But please don't take my word for it. You can try it yourself. Check it out via Lazada, Shopee or on its website at www.wellnessrefill.com. It's being sold at Php150 each box for 10 soft gel capsules.

Sarangani Bay Prime Bangus Product Review: Freshest Bounty from the Sea

Sarangani Bay Prime Bangus

I have always worked as a freelancer because it was a personal decision on my part to be with my family and to manage the family household closely. By that I mean, I take care of Kyle, my nephew whom I had raised as my own child personally. I personally plan, market and choose the food that I cook for the rest of the week. Of course, I get a little help from my mom, but modesty aside, I do better than her at the kitchen.

Cooking for me is like my way of expressing my love for my family. I’m not saying I’m such a good cook because there have been many instances where I end up cooking a hit or a miss. What I’m proud however is that at least I can whip up a nice dish once in a while. I am happy when I make a meal worth remembering as well as when I am able to cook up something delicious and healthy for my family.

Kyle is already in his teens (he’s turning 17) while my mom is already a senior citizen who happens to have some heart issues so I make sure they eat well. I’m very partial in serving them fish to provide them with Omega 3—which was proven to help prevent certain heart diseases.

Thumbs Up Sizzling Stuffed Grilled Squid
We sat inside Thumbs Up but there are al fresco dining options if you feel like eating outside. Despite its location on a street off a bustling road, it is happy to note that the atmosphere was a little quieter, which we found really nice. The food was delicious and served piping hot, mostly on sizzling plates. If you're looking for a delicious appetizer or a satisfying meal, you need not look further than Thumbs Up's stuffed grilled squid! Marinated in a sweet and tangy vinaigrette and then stuffed with onions and tomatoes, it is then grilled over hot coals to juicy and flavorful perfection.

New Dishes You Should Try at Mango Tree Bistro BGC

Mango Tree Bistro in BGC

Mango Tree is an international restaurant chain from Thailand that serves authentic Thai dishes along with fusion meals that will surely satiate your palate. Security Blanket was among the privileged ones who got invited to taste and try the new dishes at Mango Tree Bistro in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

Among the Mango Tree Bistro outlets, their flagship store at BGC is the one I frequently visit not only because of its authentic Thai dishes but also because it gives off that Thai-inspired ambiance. Plus, they have a very extensive menu and it's so easy to get lost in it too because the names are in Thai, it's best to ask what dish is made of. Another thing I love about Mango Tree is that you can order the good, tried-and-tested Thai dishes that Filipinos love alongside new Thai specialties you haven't tried before.

Without much further ado, allow me to share with you my latest food discoveries, the new dishes you guys should try at the Mango Tree Bistro in BGC.

Mango Tree Bistro Thai Crispy Rice Crackers with dipping sauce
Deep fried Thai crispy crackers (Php280)--Served with a creamy and savoury dip made with coconut milk, shrimp and chicken strips. It tasted like rice puffs with peanut buttery and coconut after taste. A good way to start your meal if you will ask me.

Thai pork skewers

Thai Chicken and Thai Pork Skewers (Php420)--Grilled marinated chunks of chicken and pork skewers with cherry tomato, bell peppers, white onions and pineapple served with sweet vinegar sauce. If you're a carnivore, both skewers will surely delight your taste buds.

Thai Chicken Skeweres

Prawns in pandan

Prawns in Pandan (Php580)--Marinated prawns in aromatic pandan leaves. It was cooked very well with no burnt taste and served with a yummy tamarind sauce.
Deep fried prawns in tamarind sauce

Deep Fried Prawns in Tamarind Sauce (Php580)--Deep fried prawns topped with garlic, chilies, spring onions and tamarind sauce. I feel sorry for those who are allergic to prawns (as well as other seafoods) because they won't be able to taste this dish and the prawns in pandan. They both taste fantastic!

Tom Yum Chicken Wings

Tom Yum Chicken Wings (Php290)--Deep fried chicken wings in Tom Yum Powder. Delicious and finger licking chicken wings with some kick and tangy taste. Truly, a feast for your palate.

Phad thai with soft shell crab

Phad Thai with Soft Shell Crab (P550)--Thai stir-fried rice noodles with soft shell crab. Who would have thought that mixing pha thai along with soft shell crab would be a terrific way to serve our all-time fave noodle dish? With the Mango Tree Bistro's resident Thai chef working his magic on each dish, you will never go wrong.

How Mang Inasal satisfies the Rice-Eating Pinoys

Mang Inasal’s delicious food offerings bring out the quirks in Filipino food lovers to embrace the sarap ng kaing Pinoy experience.

There is no denying that the Filipino’s have an undying love for food. Our fiesta-driven culture is full of celebrations marked by the partaking of food. In fact, Filipinos have made it a point to find almost every reason to eat. Any Pinoy gathering, name it, and food will always be a part of it.

Interestingly, food-loving Pinoys have developed quirky eating habits -– from their generous use of condiments to their shameless use of hands during boodle fights.

Customers can satisfy their cravings for Pinoy comfort food with Mang Inasal’s paborito meals.

Mang Inasal,
the home of the 2-in-1 sa laki, nuot sa ihaw sarap chicken inasal, has not only  captured the taste of Pinoy comfort foods. It has also encouraged a dining experience where everyone is comfortable to show their eating habits, making for a true sarap ng kaing Pinoy moment with loved ones.

I remember the very first time that my best friend and I brought her French-Canadian husband Pierre to Mang Inasal. He fell in love at first bite with the Mang Inasal chicken. He even managed to eat with his bare hands and enjoyed dipping them in the mixed soy sauce, calamansi and vinegar sauce. He also put a lot of annato oil on both his mounds of unlimited rice and chicken. To think we never really thought he'd be able to enjoy eating that much! If a foreigner whose totally clueless how one should eat chicken inasal would enjoy that much, what more could the typical Filipinos, right?

Paradise Dynasty: There's more to explore and experience than their Signature Xiao Long Bao

Paradise Dynasty at the 2nd level of The Podium in Mandaluyong City

Paradise Dynasty can be quite intimidating for first-timers because of its high-end vibe and exquisite modern imperial design with wood carvings and well-lighted ceilings. But don't allow such intimidation to stop you from dining here. Paradise Dynasty is a Singaporean restaurant franchise which specializes in imperial cuisine with authentic local flavors from Northern and Southern China. They have their flagship branch at the posh S Maison Mall in Conrad Hotel, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City. And recently, they have opened another branch at the 2nd level of The Podium Mall in Ortigas, Mandaluyong City.

Known for their legendary take on the 8 flavors of their signature Xiao Long Bao, we were surprised to find out that there's a lot more to explore and experience at Paradise Dynasty. From their appetizers, soups, drinks, all the way to the mains (which are mostly composed of Szchuan and La Mien dishes)--were all value for one's money because they're really excellent in taste yet good for sharing too. The best part? They're all reasonably priced too.

Hukad Golden Cowrie Restaurant: Celebrating Cebuano's Good Food

Hukad welcomes you in with warmth

“Always a feast!”  This is Hukad Restaurant's official tagline. The term Hukad meant two things: to serve up on one's plate and a "ladle" used to scoop up servings. Hukad is owned by the Golden Cowrie group of restaurants which highlights Filipino tradition of eating altogether as a family over good food. Security Blanket recently tried Cebuano and well-loved Filipino dishes at their Trinoma Mall branch.

So what do I love about Hukad? Let me count the ways:

First of all, if you're into rice, you will certainly love this restaurant. They offer unlimited freshly-cooked rice scooped in mounds which you will surely enjoy. A Hukad staff will be approaching your table and will ask if you need more rice, "Hukad some more?"

Hukad ladle ladies giving off unlimited rice
Hukad as well as other Golden Cowrie owned restaurants already had a cult following in both Visayas and Mindanao but they have yet to establish themselves here in Metro Manila. So we were delighted to get a taste of the best of Cebuano dishes without necessarily traveling to the South. We're happy that they are also expanding their reach nationwide, this way, more and more people will be able to delight in Cebuano foods. That alone saves you money sans traveling in an aircraft when you're seriously craving for some Cebuano foods like lechon and Ngohiong, right?

Some of Hukad's specialties

They have tapped in actor Gerald Anderson as their official brand ambassador. Yes, the "Ikaw Lang ang Iibigin" lead actor was said to be happy when Hukad had chosen him to become their endorser. He was part Bisaya and since he's now based in Manila, he would sometimes miss the food back home. Now, he doesn't need to go far, all he needs to do is visit any Hukad restaurants in the metro and he'll definitely satiate his cravings for Cebuano foods.

Hukad has tapped actor Gerald Anderson as their endorser.
