Tiger Lily
04:43
|
|||
Bend to the sun
when the day has begun.
Let your beautiful face
feel the sun far away.
And, when afternoon's light
starts to hide, comes the night.
Hear the sun's last remark
before it becomes dark:
"All through the day,
although I'm far away,
you are mine to pore over
May to October,
Oh, Tiger Lily!"
Then, comes the cold,
and the leaves red and gold.
You will sink to the ground,
under snow, safe and sound.
Though your season is done
and you fade from the sun,
hiding under the snow
you are resting peaceful.
Then, comes the spring
and your awakening.
"It was all worth the wait,
November to April,
Oh, Tiger Lily!"

Girl

Sit down for a while
count the clouds, find a shape.
Draw a line on the page
'til it takes you someplace.
A phone rings, a staircase
leads you to a memory.
Feel the sky, feel the air,
feel the ground, feel the walls.
Let it fly out the window
and pass as a cloud.
Like a shape, now your eyes
close and fade.

Whippoorwill
04:15
|
|||
I hear the little song you sing
and wonder what you're offering -
a warning about anything
from in the dark, oh whippoorwill?
Between the hours of dusk and dawn
oh, you insist to sing your song -
so, do you say it won't be long
for me, oh little whippoorwill?
From your invisibility,
can you be sure of what you see?
And why, when all is going right
do you sing to me?
But, move along, you could be wrong
this time, oh little whippoorwill.
So serenade me from the night,
from in the dark, from out of sight!
And, I will hear but not believe,
for, the song you sing
is just a song, a lovely song
this time, oh little whippoorwill.

The Whole Way Home
04:15
|
|||
You walked me past that house each day
where vines disguised the window panes.
Your laugh made grooves beside your eyes,
made flowers grow, killed cloudy skies.
The sidewalk's curve,
the way to school,
allergies and pollen air,
the clips that mom put in my hair.
Trees lean on both sides toward the road,
and you held my hand the whole way home.

Goldstruck
04:53
|
|||
Long road,
I'm told.
Find love,
strike gold.
Downstream,
knee deep.
Find love,
strike gold.
Weigh the ore,
when you find it you can fill your pockets.
When you're rich
it gets heavy - it can weigh you down.
Go slow,
grow old.
Take care,
strike gold.

Sideroad 20

Same green grass
and the same bright blue moon,
walk down the same forest path
to the same river bank.
Down the hill
time doesn't move quite as fast.
Hope it's the same every day.
But, one day
when the river gets wide,
and when the water gets slow
and the trees start to bend
time moves on
and the land will erode.
Wish it would stay the same.

Mom
03:14
|
|||
Mom drinking coffee,
laughing at nothing,
making a language,
talking for hours,
laying together on cushion clouds.
And, even when it rains
you're always looking up.
I call to tell you nothing in particular -
just to hear your voice.
I call you to tell you fashion advice,
what you want to eat,
when will you be home?
To tell you that I love you.

Utopia
03:48
|
|||
North of here, among the evergreens,
West along a road that seems forgotten,
keep left as you pass the disappearing grass,
slow down and let the birch trees
keep you safe and warm.
Time is slowing down,
you know what you have found.
You've found Utopia.
