Editorial Reviews
Review
But Clark's book had some faults. He was mostly concerned with the statements of other theologians in the Reformed tradition, making it less accessible to the general public. And Clark himself was unsure of what you needed to believe to receive eternal life. Clark advanced the cause, but there was further to go.
I tried to present a modern defense of Clark's position in my book Beyond Doubt: How to Be Sure of Your Salvation. However, since that book was not directly about the nature of faith, I had planned to write another on the topic. It is with a mixture of relief, sadness, joy, and not a little envy that I can say Jeremy beat me to it!
And he's done an excellent job.

About the authors
Jeremy Myers (J. D. Myers) writes to help liberate you from the shackles of religion. Through his books, podcast, and online theology courses, you will discover God's love and grace, and will learn to experience your freedom in Jesus Christ. Learn more at RedeemingGod.com/join/
By writing insightful books about Scripture, theology, and the church, Jeremy Myers shows you a way of thinking about these topics that help you find freedom in Jesus Christ.
A graduate of Moody Bible Institute and Dallas Theological Seminary, Jeremy's ideas are firmly within the broad stream of historic and traditional Christian theology, but he presents them in a way you might not have encountered before. His perspective will give you fresh insight to Scripture and a lively approach to theology which will challenge many traditional teachings and understandings.
Jeremy says that he writes to "Bring Scripture and theology to life." He believes that if books about Scripture and theology are boring and do not apply to today's complex life, then the author has not properly done his or her job. He also believes that religion has corrupted much of how Christians understand Scripture and theology, and it is time to return to a reading of Scripture and a theology of life that is centered and based solely on the redeeming love of Jesus Christ.
If you are looking for books to help you see God, church, Scripture, theology, and your life in a new and refreshing way, try a book from Jeremy Myers today.
Jeremy writes to help liberate Scripture and theology from the shackles of religion. By reading his books, you will learn to follow Jesus in a more relational way.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 11, 2023While I may not agree with some of his conclusions and at times was unsatisfied with the answers provided, I very much appreciated the discussion and see it as a great springboard to further investigate this topic.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2019Some folks explain complicated topics in a clear and concise manner. You find yourself wondering how it was that you’d ever thought the topic difficult. J. D. Myers is one of those folks. In this book, Myers first lays out what faith is and how it works. Then, with the skill of a verbal neurosurgeon, he reasons through various misconceptions, following up with multiple clarifications. Lastly, he takes the reader on a tour of numerous Scriptures on faith, pulling in all that’s been taught along the way. As I write this review, I find I’m already looking forward to reading this book again.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2019Once again, Jeremy Myers brings clarity to a topic that many are confused about. Faith is such a difficult subject for some. Do I have enough faith? I have doubts, how does that affect my faith? What is child-like faith? Do I have little faith, small faith or great faith? Many Christians put faith in their faith. Jeremy does a wonderful job of explaining these concepts and more in this book. Having read, and listened to, many of Jeremy's books and podcasts, I can attest to his in-depth knowledge and proficient writing style. Whether you agree with all his points or not, you will come away with more knowledge and understanding after reading this book. This is a book that I would recommend all new Christians read and be used in discipleship classes.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2019The model of faith Mr. Myers presents is very practical and comprehensive. Having faith is knowing things to be true. This applies to both the material world and the spiritual one. You either have faith (know something to be true) or you don't (99% true is still false). But believing something can cascade into your live and affect many aspects of your belief system. This is especially true when it comes to spiritual things. If thinking you have little faith, take a look at this book and see what it means and how you can "grow" it.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2019If you are a normal Christian, you would have asked yourself many times that question. "Did my faith really save me? Is my faith pleasing God?"
These are normal questions and I have asked it many times in my 22 years walk with the Lord.
The writer explores these questions makes it very clear how childlike saving faith really is.
Do not miss out on a real gem. This is a must read for a babe in Christ and for a more mature Christian.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 4, 2019I was definitely surprised by this book. I thought I understood what faith is but Jeremy explains the true meaning of faith very clearly.
I loved the Sections
1) "Misconceptions About Faith"
I was pleasantly surprised at some of my misconceptions.
2) "Understanding Scriptures on Faith"
This section made me go Wow!! every now and again as with my new corrected understanding, I could see some of the examples with fresh eyes.
A book well worth reading.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2019This book is well written and easy to read and understand. I loved and highlighted a lot but the assurance based on what Jesus has done and the gracious message to continue to study and grow makes this an easy book to hand my kids and friends. I can hardly wait for the discussions! I'm excited to read the others in this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 22, 2020This book really changed the way I understand faith and belief!! Truly helpful for me because I’m a therapist and I talk a lot about how our beliefs shape our lives. Although this book is talking about biblical faith and belief it is applicable to all of life!
