- Reviewed in the United States on February 22, 2014DKS Eyewithesss travel is my preferred travel guide since a 2004 purchase while planning a trip to England. Subsequently I purchased Eyewitnesss travel guides for Italy, Rome, Paris and now Provence. First and foremost, the print quality is equivalent to brochure standard with clear color photographs, 3-D graphics and easy to read font style and size. The descriptions provide a color-coded overview of the area for easy selection of the areas of interest. The DK Choice recommendations are also very helpful and I selected Avignon and a farm house hotel in Avignon based on these recommendations. Finally, the history summary provides interesting background information of the various geographic locations and sites within a specific area. I recommend first-time potential purchasers compare DK to other travel guides and you will see for yourself some of the attributes of DK travel guides.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 13, 2022If there’s one thing I’ve learned about traveling it’s…a bit of studying BEFORE you go is the ticket for making a trip much more enjoyable! A lot of nuggets can be found in knowing the history of the place… it’s people and how and why they live where they do! This guide hit the mark… foods, traditions, festivals local artists and craftsmen AND the architecture and topography! I highly recommend this guidebook
- Reviewed in the United States on July 19, 2019I bought this book as well as the Lonely Planet Provence book (which I ended up returning). The DK was far better organized, informative both in the text and visually. The book had good detail on WHAT you should see. The reason I give it 4/5 stars is that instructions for transit and HOW to see everything were lacking.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 6, 2020A nice balance between visually pleasing imagery and practical travel information. It gives you a good sense of what to expect at each destination. My wife and I planned our two-week, 20+location trip to the South of France largely picking attractions recommended by this book. It was our first time in the area, and it was a big success.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2020Definitely an overview travel book, with great photos. My wife loves the energy of it, too, ca the encyclopedic travel books with phone numbers for hotels, etc. instead, this gives you a broad sweep of top sights for the region plus two levels of detail for more info if you want it.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 5, 2020This book was compiled by seven contributors and about 40 supporting staff members, and then digested into an almost pocket sized volume with excellent photos. It has very well considered information. I enjoy it as much as other paperbacks with stories of Provence.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 17, 2019After purchasing this book I discovered the Rick Steves’ Provence book. His book had a lot more practical information. It didn’t have as many pictures but the detail info was well reseched and up to date.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2016DK Eyewitness Travel Guide's are by far my favorite - and this one is no exception. Full of photographs, great tips and all the history and particularities that make Provence what it is. It's a superb addition for your travel suitcase. It will make sure you don't come home and then discover this great hidden place you could have seen while you where on vacation - but had no one to tell you about.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best edition
The new lay-out and information is much netter than in the previous versions. Lighter because hotel and resataurant data had been dismissed because it is nog relevant anymore.

1.0 out of 5 stars Different des autres, ne me convient pas
