- Reviewed in the United States on June 23, 2024Best book I have read pertaining to my dogs wellness
- Reviewed in the United States on March 2, 2014My Parent's beloved Lhasa, Victoria was 9 years old and beginning to slow down and bald, when a friend handed me this book. I shared the content with my Mom who said she would never feed raw meat to her dog! Then I sent her the book and after reading it, she hesitantly took Victoria off her premium dry dog food and began feeding her according to Ms. Schultze recommendations; raw eggs, bones and all! Victoria had never enjoyed her dry food and had to be coaxed into eating it. Not so with this Diet! She devoured it, heartily! Within days of beginning the Diet, Victoria came back to 'life'! She began having 'puppy crazies' again and within months, the fur on her sweet head began to grow back thick and glossy! My Mom's Vet saw her several months after starting the Diet and was in shock. She had to know what Mom had done to effect such a dramatic change! When Mom shared her knowlege about the Diet, the Vet was skeptical but the proof that was right before her was unrefutable so she encouraged Mom to continue feeding Victoria Raw. For the next seven years, Victoria flourished on raw meat, raw veggies, uncooked bones, raw eggs and Flax Seed Oil. She never developed any profound illnesses and passed away peacefully at 16 years old! I now have 5 dogs on our Farm and they are all fed this way. We have no illness amongst our Canine Farmily and they all have sparkling teeth and glossy coats. This is the way Dogs should eat. Get the book! Try the Diet! Your Dog will thank you!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2018I liked the book. The author was clear and to the point and used simple anecdotes to illustrate her points. She doesn't give just recipes; she tells you why each ingredient is essential, or of it is not. She gives options for meeting nutritional requirements for your pet (cat or dog). She also discusses some of the pros and cons of a raw diet, which clear up some myths out there.
All-in-all she was very thorough.
The only drawbacks for me are the time to prepare the food and the cost of high quality ingredients. These are easily overcome with a new perspective gained from this informative book.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2024I have my own copy and bought this as a gift for a friend. If you are thinking about a raw diet for your dog, then do your research!!! I had no idea that bone was important, so I’m glad I read this. There are certain things that must be added to a raw diet for it to be nutritionally sound. I learned a lot fro this simple easy read.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2019This is a quick read which makes homemade pet food seem doable and desirable. I was able to implement the author's suggestions immediately (without stress) and our two standard poodles were very enthusiastic about dinner. I'm not ready to go fully off commercial food, but I'm using ideas from the book to intersperse homemade dinners, with zero transition difficulties. I'm also using the suggestions as healthy add-ins when I do use commercial food. With this book, it is very easy and budget friendly to have a happier and healthier pet. This will be a permanent addition to my library.

We are brainwashed by advertising, and influenced by what other brainwashed people think, to only rely on allopathic treatments. The independent thinkers and researchers are ridiculed for taking a different approach.
The latter research and find out what actually works but people would rather, it seems, listen to an 'expert' who patently cannot cure something (vs suppress symptoms) than a 'non-expert' who has demonstrated they can cure with simple natural remedies.
Is it so hard to actually make decisions on what works by observing, testing and comparing the results of different regimes and making a decision on actual evidence? Apparently so.
Luckily the sick and desperate-for-a-cure people are more concerned about results so they search far and wide to get the info they need.
May every one searching for a cure to what ails them, find it.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2016Not a fan of this book. I have read so many books on homemade meals for dogs, they all have very different views that it's confusing for pet owners.
With all of the chemicals that are in meat and meat products today and how they are processed this raw meat diet is not safe or practical in today's world unless you can afford to spend almost $10 per lb for organic chicken and more for organic beef, and up to $23 per lb for wild meat.
This sounds good in theory, but is not practical. I have decided to cook "clean" for my dog and he seems to be doing much better.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 27, 2019This book was all we needed to transition our dogs completely. Our adopted GSD came to us with a complicated history and she has written a beautiful healing story with the assistance of a raw food diet. Her hemorrhagic colitis is gone, her teeth sparkling. Her breath so fresh and she barely sheds any more. She’s gone from 3 giant piles of poo daily to pooping once a day the equivalent of a small dog, virtually eliminating multiple plastic bags from entering the landfill. Even our 13 yr old chihuahua, whose teeth were rotting, smells wonderful and is able to eat chicken necks without a problem. She looks like she had her teeth professionally cleaned!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great choice for newbies wanting to learn about feeding raw
I am new to feeding raw and felt overwhelmed about how to start. I purchased this book as well as another one by Carina Beth MacDonald called Raw Dog food - Make it Easy for You and Your Dog". Of the two, Kymythy's "Natural Nutrition for Dogs and Cats" was the best for learning and then creating a plan and getting started. Its been a couple weeks since I made the switch to raw and its actually been really easy! No regrets! The sample monthly menu and the daily meal amount breakdown by animal's weight provided in her book were very helpful.
Kymythy's book really helped me overcome my trepidation on getting it right and its become my raw 'go to' reference. I did, however, decide to use "Glop" as described in the other book for my veggie component, less work whipping up a large batch containing numerous vegetables all mixed together and freezing into 3-day size baggies instead. So both books have been handy, but if you can only get one, get Kymythy's.

5.0 out of 5 stars Un clásico
Muy recomendable para tener una base sólida sobre alimentación natural y el concepto apropiado para la especie. Sigue la misma línea que el Dr. Ian Billinghurst autor de la dieta BARF (dieta cruda sin requerimientos nutricionales del NRC).

5.0 out of 5 stars A comfy happy dog!
We are trying hard to avoid processed foods and eat fresh local meat and veg whenever we can. So we looked into doing the same for our new Welsh Terrier puppy. When she was very young she had a tummy upset and ended up in the vets with a very enlarged tummy. We began to look more carefully at her diet and decided to try to replicate our own diet by avoiding processed foods.
This book has been very useful indeed and we dip in often to check that she is getting what she needs.
We had a Welsh Terrier 65 years ago before processed dogfood was the norm and now we are very happy with her diet. It is not difficult to provide and I enjoy rummaging in my garden to find bits of herbs that she loves.
It really is a very useful little book if you don't fancy your dog having the same food day in day out for 14 years!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pepper loved this book
I was dog sitting a friend’s poodle (Pepper) for a month and was told the dog was on the BARF diet. I thought is this dog eating its own vomit? Turns out BARF is the acronym for Bones And Rare Food. I had a weak supply of his BAPF diet and order this book to help me understand and prepare more food for her diet. This dog and I fell in love, when the owns came to pick her up she didn’t want to leave she loved the food I prepared with the help of this book needless to say I was heartbroken as well when she returned to her home. She never leaves my side when ever I stop by for a visit. By the book it’s easy to follow and understand the benefits of the BARF diet. Talk to your veterinarian before changing your dog to this diet as it may not benefit all dogs
