Purchase options and add-ons
Nothing brings the spirit of the season into our hearts quite like a great holiday movie. "Christmas films" come in many shapes and sizes and exist across many genres. Some, like It's a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Story, are perennials, while others, such as Die Hard, have only gradually become yuletide favorites. But they all have one thing in common: they use themes evoked by the holiday period - nostalgia, joy, togetherness, dysfunction, commercialism, or cynicism - as a force in their storytelling.
Turner Classic Movies: Christmas in the Movies showcases the very best among this uniquely spirited strain of cinema. Each film is profiled on what makes it a "Christmas movie," along with behind-the-scenes stories of its production, reception, and legacy. Complemented by a trove of color and black-and-white photos, Turner Classic Movies: Christmas in the Movies is a glorious salute to a collection of the most treasured films of all time.
Among the 30 films included: The Shop Around the Corner, Holiday Inn, Meet Me in St. Louis, It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, White Christmas, A Christmas Story, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Home Alone, Little Women, and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Review
"This volume is a welcome television table companion."-―Booklist
"Christmas in the Movies is a keepsake treasure perfect for gift giving. And it's very likely that if your loved one doesn't watch classic movies that they've seen several of the classic Christmas films listed in the book. It's beautifully designed and I particularly liked its more compact size. If you're looking for a coffee table type book this is not it. It's better suited on your mantle next to your Elf on the shelf and above your Christmas stocking."―Out of the Past blog
"Another handsome, beautifully-illustrated, and affordable entry in Turner Classic Movies' series of books on film history, genres, and trivia, comes just in time for the holidays... Christmas in the Movies is comprehensive, informative, and fun. It might well be the perfect gift this season for the movie lover in your family!"

- Reviewed in the United States on November 12, 2021This book is perfect for CHRISTmas movies aficionados like me.
As I said in the title, you can't get unanimity in a list, whatever is the subject of that. But this list is almost perfect.
I don't agree for example with "Die Hard" being there and "It Happened On Fifth Avenue" not. If it was the case, you should include then "Lethal Weapon" the first. It happens during CHRISTmas season and start and finish with CHRISTmas music.
And in each movie showed in the book, they have not only the plot but also some interesting inside story.
I disagree completely with some reviews that define this book as a just another coffee table book. Not at all.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 3, 2021I found this book delightful. I loved reading about all the holiday films, as a lover of Christmas films I felt I had to read this book. I’m sure in the thirty films this book highlights somebody’s favorite was left out. I questioned a few omissions myself, but overall I thought the thirty they did pick were a good variety of films spanning from the nineteen thirties to the early two thousands. The pictures were lovely, the snippets and facts about the films were interesting, and the layout of the book was solid. It was never dull for me. I loved it. It’s also a great read for folks if their interested in discovering some classic Christmas movies that aren’t as well know today.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 20, 2023If you’re like me, I’ve always look forward to the old classic movies. This book gives some very interesting background info on the actors, directors and others. If you like movie history, you’ll like this book. Enjoy!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2022Haven’t fully read but skimmed the pages, great pictures and information!! I would buy again to give as a gift for a fellow Christmas movie lover !!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 25, 2019even with the very few I didn't personally believe belong in this group I found this a wonderful and entertaining book. the little things in the information given for these films are what is most interesting. who was supposed to star, and didn't, who began directing a film, but did not finish, and who....well, you get the point. sometimes its it little things that complete the whole picture. fascinating. enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good book, a lovely trip down memory lane!
I did enjoy this book but was puzzled that so many of the films showcased were not Christmas films just films that had come out over a Christmas period. I did enjoy the trip down memory lane though.

5.0 out of 5 stars great read with pics
a fun book with individual essays on each film with pictures. While I can't say I agree with all the choices , I appreciate the glossy hardcover and the pictures. For the most part, the author gets it right. A great gift as well.
