New Details Announced About Pete Townshend’s Contributions to ‘The Seeker,’ the New Multimedia Project Written by His Wife

The recently announced book-and-album project The Seeker, which was written and composed by Who guitarist Pete Townshend’s wife, Rachel Fuller, is now officially available for pre-order.

As previously reported, The Seeker, which offers an updated retelling of Hermann Hesse’s classic 1922 novel Siddhartha, will be released on November 7. The album includes contributions from Townshend, Elton John, Emeli Sandé, and many others. It also features narration by the late actor Christopher Plummer, and musical accompaniment from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and choir.

The Seeker is available separately as an illustrated book and a two-LP vinyl set. A limited-edition version featuring both the book and the album also will be available. In addition, the album will be available via digital formats.

The Seeker book features illustrations by Emelia Wharfe.

According to the project’s official website, TheSeekerMusic.com, the album includes new orchestral arrangements of some well-known Who songs. It also features original Townshend solo songs he wrote in 1976 for a friend’s amateur stage play based on Siddhartha.

About the Concert Celebrating The Seeker’s Release

Meanwhile, more details have been unveiled about the previously reported special concert that will celebrate The Seeker’s release. The show will take place on November 6 at Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London. It will feature performances by Townshend and other select singers featured on The Seeker album, as well as other performers and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and choir.

The concert’s cast also includes award-winning British actor and singer Alfie Boe, whose credits include Classic Quadrophenia, an orchestral version of The Who’s classic 1973 rock opera Quadrophenia that features orchestrations created by Fuller.

Fans who pre-order The Seeker in any format at the project’s online official store by 7 a.m. ET this Tuesday, September 10, will receive a link to purchase tickets for the concert.

Townshend has posted an announcement about the show on his official Instagram page. “This event is going to be monumental. And I’m in it,” he wrote. “Hope I don’t spoil it.”

In addition, Fuller has posted a video preview of The Seeker concert on her social media pages. It’s soundtracked by an orchestral version of the Who song “The Seeker” that apparently is from the forthcoming album.

More About The Seeker

As mentioned earlier, The Seeker is based Hesse’s 1922 novel Siddhartha. It is set in the during the time of the Gautama Buddha, and follows a young man named Siddhartha as he embarks on a quest of self-discovery and enlightenment.
