KSA issues a fine on illegal bingo organizer

The Dutch gambling authority has cautioned that fines will be applied if it discovers that the previously targeted organization has once more organized unlawful bingo events.

The Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) will fine the Dordtse Queens €8,000 for each future illegal bingo session, up to a total of €80,000. This follows the closure of an illegal bingo event last November, after which the KSA warned against further violations. Additionally, the organizers may face €4,000 fines for each instance of advertising such sessions, up to €40,000 in total.

The Kansspelautoriteit said:

“The KSA is increasingly seeing illegal bingo nights that do not meet the requirements of a small game of chance and where large prizes can be won.”

According to Dutch regulations, bingo can be arranged as a “small game of chance” among acquaintances, such as family and friends, or within communities like nursing homes.

The regulator added:

“The KSA sees that people are not always aware of the rules surrounding bingo and lotteries. For bingo, participation in an illegal bingo is in principle also punishable, and that minors are not allowed to participate anyway. Organizers of illegal lotteries and bingo also risk a sanction, such as the above-mentioned penalty payments.

During the November raid on Dordtse Queens, approximately 200 individuals were reportedly present, according to the KSA.
