$250 to remove brand removal?? Is this true?

Before I buy XF, I saw that on top of the $140 licensing fee, it's an additional $250 to remove the copyright brand:

" Branding Removal - $250*
This allows you to remove the visible XenForo copyright notice from all pages."

It seems a bit high, since I'm already dropping $140 upfront

Do you guys remove the this brand/copy logo?
Are there other ways to remove the brand after spending $140? via CSS coding for example?

I've kind of assumed companies/users pay for branding removal for 1 of 2 reasons:
  • it's a branded website and don't want to be advertising other products on their own site
  • to prevent competitors from seeing the software used
if it's the latter, I hope said people also remove every reference to XF in the templates.

Whether that cost is high or not is a matter of perspective. From a business viewpoint it's actually quite cheap and why would you want to remove it if a private user?

As a private user, even if the option was free, I'd still keep it.

Any other way of doing it is illegal and effectively piracy. Don't do it.

Not sure I understand your take.

A pricing being high or not is 100% a perspective. There isn't a specific amount of money that makes a price high or lower. The perspective will largely depend on factors like the current income of the business/person and the perceived value of branding free.

I literally said it's perspective, it's right there in your quote and I was responding to zenzenzen who thought it's a bit high.

Your post has made me realised however, that they asked this back in April 2018 and haven't been seen since. I wouldn't have bothered replying if I'd realised that lol.

Most members on a community couldn’t care less what software you are running and if or not you have a copyright of said software.

That being said, is there some sort of statistic how much procent of all licenses that have bought the copyright removal?

Perhaps some people like the inscription 'Community platform by XenForo® © 2010-2024 XenForo Ltd.', but it definitely annoyed me with its appearance. That's why I paid to remove the copyrights, but it's been years and I still haven't launched any forum) It's just a hobby for me to see what's new, etc. With the release of 2.3, I think I'll come up with something. I like that now there are features like IndexNow, Schema, and support for dark theme.

There are no user-friendly improvements in xenforo. Also there are more problems than other forums. Why did I choose xenforo? Because xenforo is a security-first software. Even Vbulletin is licensed software and there are still mysql vulnerabilities even in the latest version.

Of course, you should keep the security of your server at the highest level as well as xenforo.

Look, with the xenforo2.3 version, the mobile look has just started to improve. Progress is slow, but security is a must.

I just meant fully fleshed out user features that one would use every day for users, mods and admins. We've already got some admin level stuff, but perhaps more batching functions would be handy, stuff like that. Hard to think of specifics off the top of my head. We've finally got webp support for example, but having avif too would be great as it compresses even better and it too is widely supported.

I have quite a few mods installed to fill in the blanks, especially from @AndyB.

I have a selection of free mods and most of them are features I wouldn't mind seeing in base (and I have voted for some related suggestions when I have found them) but for my forum, it mostly works fine out of box. If I was running something bigger and more elaborate, maybe I would find more issues.

But I do agree that there's a dearth of cool user-facing features in 2.3 relative to 2.1 and 2.2 and even the performance and back-end features are not critical to my site. I have said little to my users about a possible upgrade, and might just do it as a quiet, back-end upgrade with little fanfare, more like how I do third point updates. And I'm not touching it until 2.3.1 comes out and various add-ons are ready. I see no reason not to hold on 2.2.16p2 until I feel 2.3 is ready.

Agreed, best to wait until the niggles are ironed out. The flag clearance bug is quite irksome, so I don't want to introduce this bug which everyone will notice. Funny thing is that I've not seen it here, but seen it on a friend's site where he upgraded a few days ago. I wonder if it has something to do with the PHP and / or database versions or the hosting, maybe.

I also have to check that my homemade theme created by a friend works properly with it, as I've got no support for that. I've installed 2.3 locally and will copy the theme to it and see.
