Went to Mom Kitchen in Mira Mesa near Pho Cali. Ordered our meals from a QR Code. The servers were very nice and polite. Every dish was super yummy! At the end of our meal, they gave us Portuguese egg tart, ugh!!! Forgot to take a picture. But it's similar to an egg tart that you can get at the Chinese dim sum restaurant. But it's no comparison to theirs. This one is the BEST! I also ordered a Kumquat Passion Fruit Tea with a Frozen Bear on top. So cute! So refreshing and yummy drink! Almost forgot to mention that their noodles are homemade and cooked to perfection!
I'm definitely bringing my girlfriends here once they come back from their vacations.

Iced Lemon Coke was very refreshing !!!!!!! Beef Chow Fan, and Hainanese Chicken w/ Rice, great and not salty!!! Highly recommend coming back. The ambience of the cafe is calm and relaxing.

I am happy that a Hong Kong cafe opened up in Mira Mesa! The interior of the restaurant is cute and cozy with a minimal menu. My overall experience was good but I can't say it's the best hong kong cafe style food I've had. I was hoping the restaurant would be comparable to the ones in SGV with the baked pasta dishes and more soup options but Mom Kitchen has more dim sum like dishes and delicious teas.
We ordered the pineapple bun that comes with a slice of butter, hong kong milk tea, hainanese chicken combo, black pepper sirloin, and spicy wontons. My favorite item was the pineapple bun and black pepper sirloin. The pineapple bun comes fresh&warm so it pairs well with the slice of butter. That was served first with my milk tea. I can tell they use quality tea because of how rich in color the milk tea is and how fragrant it tastes. It's perfect if you don't like your drinks too sweet because you can sweeten it yourself with the side of condensed milk.
The black pepper sirloin had a well-balanced flavor (not too salty) and the meat was cooked well but I wish it had more of the black pepper kick. Regarding the Hainanese Chicken combo, the chicken and ginger sauce is were good but the rice and cucumber garnish were just ok. The cucumbers were a bit dry and the rice isn't like the traditional Hainan chicken rice where it's flavored. It's more of a stickier white rice texture.
If you're looking for the traditional Taiwanese spicy wontons, these are different! There is a lot of peanut sauce so it makes the dish sweeter and creamier. The wonton wrappers are very thick and broke apart easily--I wouldn't get them again.
Restaurant was clean and staff were nice. The plaza does get busy during dinner hours but parking is manageable! I would recommend getting their teas and dim sum dishes over their other items!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Brad T.San Diego, United States18 Dec 2024
For a place that's named after what sounds like the start to a 90's joke you'd tell your friends in elementary school, this place is tight, sick, and hecka cool.
The bathrooms have a little elephant head coat holder, and are pretty damn clean.
The food itself is amazing, expensive, but amazing. Lots of attention on appearance but also on taste, although I wish there was way more meat in the braised beef noodles, the black and gold buns are like a sponge cake in the best way.
All the service was great; blunt, harsh, and no-nonsense, which is just what I want and expect from a place like this. Don't come to my table and chat about stuff, just ask me what I want, write it down, slamma jamma the menu right through the window and then slap anyone in line before throwing them into the place like they deserve.
My only dissapointment is that I did not shit out gold tar after eating the black and gold buns. Maybe next time, and there'll definitely be a next time so I can eat a fat stack of duck meat.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 15 Dec 20241 check-in
Was in the area with the bf. Came to Mom's Kitchen for lunch, and the food really hit the spot. Everything we ordered was solid:
Noodles - Super flavorful and well-cooked with just the right amount of sauce. Definitely a must-get.
Pineapple bun - Fresh and buttery, but that big slab of cold butter was just so good
Hainan chicken - So tender and juicy, paired perfectly with the ginger sauce.
BBQ platter - The char siu and roast duck were so good, especially over rice with that egg.
However the service was a total letdown. The staff seemed disorganized, and everything came out so painfully slow. At one point, I was wondering if they forgot about us.
If you can overlook the wait, the food makes it worth it. Just don't come starving, and maybe bring a little patience.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0 - 22 Dec 2024
Garlic string beans were good and crunchy! very aesthetic and generous portions! This is very authentic Cantonese food. I definitely recommend and would come back.

This is a cute small restaurant in the strip mall with Pho Cow Cali, Somi Somi, and Bank of America!
We went on a Tuesday and there wasn't any wait at 6pm at all. I got the shrimp fried noodles and thought it was a good portion and a solid option. My friend got the Hainan chicken and liked it, especially the orange sauce that came with it.
We also got the pan fried vegetable dumplings, which were great. I know some people have complained about the portions but I thought they were reasonable for the price and filling.
The service was pretty attentive and they came by to fill water at least 3 times over 40 minutes! I can't speak to how authentic the food was, but I enjoyed it overall.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 25 Nov 2024
New cantonese restaurant in Mira Mesa! My friends and I decided to come here for a late lunch to give it a try. There's usually a line so we decided to go after the lunch rush. We were seated after a few minutes of waiting. There is a sign up sheet outside the front door.
Ordered the chicken wings appetizer. I thought it was quite bland. The beef chow fun was good but noodles were falling apart so a bit overcooked. The tonkatsu with curry sauce was the best of what we ordered. The garlic green beans were good too.
I think the food is good but portion sizes were quite small. For the reason alone, I think we would rather go to other restaurants in the area.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - 16 Nov 20241 check-in
I was so excited to hear a Hong Kong restaurant was opening up, and after seeing a few photos and media posts surrounding their offerings, I knew I had to come give Mom Kitchen a try!
- PARKING -
Located in a busy plaza in Mira Mesa, right next to Pho Cow Cali. There are many parking spaces, but you might end up parking further away during peak meal hours.

Paper waitlist at the front of the door! The restaurant is not big at all, so I would be wary coming with more than 4 people. They did have one big party of 8 eating inside when we arrived, but they must've come earlier on to be able to grab that large of a space. I would highly recommend looking at the menu beforehand if you can, so you know exactly what to order once you sit down. They have QR codes on the tables where you can directly order off your phone - however, some tables still opted to order with the waiter. Once we ordered, it took only around 5-10 minutes for our first dish to come out. The other dishes came out in 5 minute increments.

Beef Chow Fun ($17.00): A classic dish, and a favorite amongst our friend group. The flavors were there, but I did wish there was more wok-hei to the noodles. The beef was nicely cooked, not tough at all! I also think the price is a bit much for the portion we were given.
XO Shrimp Silver Noodle ($17.00): Super fun to eat these noodles! You don't see them often, but they give an interesting mouth feel. Flavor was good again, but wish there was more XO sauce. The shrimps were bouncy! Price was again a bit high for the portion.
Pork Soup Dumplings (6pc - $12.00): From a first hand look, the dumplings didn't seem like they had much soup inside. We were definitely proven wrong after we bit into them and poured out a good amount of soup! The wrapper was a bit thick at the top though. I'm happy to see red vinegar was offered here as that's not a common thing either!
Pan Fried Dumpling Combo (9pcs - $15.00): Love this option to get 3 different kinds of dumplings - veggie, beef and pork. We all liked the pork the most, but all of the options were delicious. The beef and pork dumplings also had juice inside of them!
Peanut Butter Toast ($10.00): Condensed milk and butter slathered over toast!! One of my favorite dishes, but this version here at Mom Kitchen had cheese inside of it?? I didn't like the addition, but one of my friends did.

A solid spot for Hong Kong classic dishes, but just at a higher price point than I'd like. If their prices were lower, or their portion sizes were larger, I might come back more often. Otherwise I just hope more Hong Kong restaurants open up in San Diego!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0
