Superb walking for the dogs when the tide is out . The new big steps built 5 years ago that lead into the harbour and when the tide is out you can walk all way from the Road on to the Beach .

Ramsgate / Margate / Broadstairs - Drunks, Druggies and Rubbish: Ramsgate, Filthy, rubbish everywhere... even sick on the pavement around the 'royal' harbour, as for the 'beach' we kept our shoes on, I wouldn't walk bare foot here... again, as said before, poor old Ramsgate... broken, down at heel, unloved by it's local authority, unloved by it's population in general, filthy, grotty, decaying. What is going to happen to the Pavilion.... why doesn't Thanet start by sorting out that building and restore it.
Broadstairs is full of drunks, wasn't even lunchtime, but still a slightly better than both Margate and Ramsgate as we didn't see any druggies. Slightly better shops, but the beach again is filthy.
Margate is just full of druggies, as soon as we got there we were pounced on by 3 asking for change/light/and if we want any.... Turner Art Gallery on the front is a joke with the 'rubbish' inside it, and restaurants.... well you would be lucky to find any which isn't a Wetherspoons standard. The beach had sand....but also dog mess, JCB vehicles and rubbish.
DON'T DO the 'Turner and Dickens Walk', it leave one council estate, cross 3 cabbage fields to enter another council estate, call Maragte.... how is this advertised as a historical/peaceful 'walk' - when you get to Margate, you are at the top of 'druggies' alley, and you have to go through it to get to the beach at the bottom, you will see some horrific sights....Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (Ninawr…)Dublin, Republic of Ireland45827Jul 12, 2010
Arrived on the coach with a glorious sun covering the sky, a recipe for a successful holiday. Suit case in hand, itching to change into something appropriate for a dip in the inviting clear blue water. Margate is the epitome of British seaside, with a stretching landscape of white sand and coves within viewing distance. The fresh smell of the air invigorated my lungs as I aimed to explore this wonderful beach in Margate.
Swimming in the waters of Margate filled me with awe at the wonders of God, the sea.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Phil C.Ashford, United Kingdom021Apr 7, 2018

Margate has a lovely beach so it's such a shame it's fallen into decay!
I remember visiting the seaside at Margate when I was 7 years old. The place was so different then. Dreamland was still a vibrant, succesful themepark with all its rides and arcades, their were still quite a few shops open there that are now all shut and boarded up, and of course all the arcades were open.
With time the shops have shut, the themepark has gone and the most poignant part of Margate, the reknowned wooden rollercoaster burnt down. The arcades are still there but it seems to have lost its heart. However it's still popular during the summer as many flock to the beach for sunbathing and relaxing. There are many pubs and eating areas, with a number of clubs that are also quite popular.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (antspi…)Margate, United Kingdom218749Oct 2, 2008

I have to say I disagree with the view that this beach is fantastic. Maybe about 20 years ago but now every time we've gone there it's been over run with horrid black bitey flies which get into everything including the underwear. So we're giving this a miss better off driving 5 miles to Broadstairs and it's lovely beach

Main margate beach is a nice inexpensive place to take the kids on a day out. A large sandy beach, with a small fun fair area in the summer, and a cafe/ice-cream parlour almost in the middle of it. It also has a boating lake although i've not seen many boats on it! All the arcades lining the prom just opposite may be a slight problem, but they are fun to go and spend a few pennys and theres a few little beach shops around the area too for buckets, spades and kiss me quick hats.
