Great place for some evening drinks at the Royal Hawaiian. Had to try their famous drinks while staying at the Royal. Great service by all the staff. Very relaxing to have a drink at the beach and just sitting outside to hear the waves in the background. Definitely makes you feel like your on vacation

A favorite hangout of mine. I brought a friend to celebrate her birthday. We came for pau hana. I haven't been for a couple of years since I moved away. They have a new food menu, so my favorites weren't there. We had the ahi tuna dip with Taro and other veggie chips and the chicken wings with an Asian sauce. Both were excellent. The ahi dip was full of flavor and the wings were crunchy on the outside and very moist on the inside. They had the classic cocktail menu with 5 types of Mai Tai. My friend had the Royal Hawaiian Mai Tai it was a generous drink. I had a kiwi drink. It was a little sweet for me but refreshing. The atmosphere is beautiful. Pink umbrellas over the tables, a view of Diamond Head and the beach and live music. Tad was an amazing guitarist. We were there during a shift change, and our waitress cashed us out even though we weren't done. The new waiter was trying to get rid of us even though we still had food to eat and my friend had half a glass of wine! That has never happened before.

Hubby & I just finished the catamaran tour and walked up to the bar area off the beach. They had no problem serving us as I was barefoot holding my shoes. We ordered the braised beef shortrib ragu, the indochine wings & lobster roll. My husband says the lobster roll was very good. The beef ragu was okay. It needed a little bit of salt and pepper. The star of the meal was the indochine wings. Nice & crispy outside and flavorful inside. It'd not very often restaurants take the time to either brine or marinate their wings. Whatever they did worked! Next time it will be a double order of the wings.

#1 place to eat (in my opinion). This place had the best food and drinks out of all the places we visited. I'm pretty there are other great places but this place won my belly over. The burgers were delicious along with the truffle fries. The Mai tai's were so great. Not too strong. We tried the Vic's and the royal Hawaiian. The service was very quick. The waiters were very attentive. You get to overlook the beach while sipping on your delicious mai tai.

What's not to like at the Mai Tai Bar, see my pic of drinks and beach background. It's located through the Royal Hawaiian hotel (hence the pink umbrellas) or beach access. So there is the beach breeze, warm weather, sun or shade (we were always able to find shade) and plenty of people watching. Depending on the business of the restaurant, the staff was either harried or extremely good.
The drinks were refreshing and good. Not all Mai Tais are alike. For example, their Vic's 44 Mai Tai is less sweet than their Royal Hawaiian Mai Tai, which has fresh pineapple.
We shared the Short Rib Loco Moco, their upscale take on the local fav. As you can see from my pic the portion size was average. The egg was cooked correctly, as was the short rib. The short rib fell apart, was rich and hearty. The truffle brown gravy didn't have very much truffle flavor, yet it was a rich as it looks on the short rib. The gravy was a great compliment to the short rib and to the rice.
As a tip: there tends to be a lull in seating at about 3:00 pm.
We enjoyed this place as a spot for reliving the past events of the day or planning for tomorrow.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Aug 21, 2023
Our party of 5 (with a baby) came on a Saturday eve for drinks & dessert. Best part was kind & friendly service from Marc. Mai tai drinks were tasty, desserts were very good. Ambiance is nice with live music.

Hands down best mai tai on Oahu! The Vic's 44 is *the* best! Expect to pay $18-$20 a drink, but the views can't be beat. Service on a Thurs night was pretty slow, but when you have a mai tai facing Waikiki beach, you roll with it. We did have an issue with our server forgetting to put our order in and then receiving a cheese board with nuts when we specificially mentioned no nuts due to an allergy at the table. That aside, Mai Tai Bar is the perfect place to spend an evening

The Mai Tai Bar is a great place to take out of town guests. It's one of the few places actually on the beach. The atmosphere is lively and fun and a little nicer than Dukes. It seems the food has gotten better over the years.
I've been there many times with friends and on dates. The last time I was there I took my 16yr old niece+her friend. We had such a great time and I think they really enjoyed the Hawaiian tropic feel of the restaurant and of the Iconic Royal Hawaiian.
They also have live music, and if you time it right, you can watch the Royal Hawaiian luauHelpful 1Thanks 2Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jan 3, 2023
Stars are for the mai tai and the truffle fries. Everything was disappointing.
I ordered the cobb salad and it was disgusting. Bacon was burnt and dressing was awful. Also, found short curly hair on my salad.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 18, 2022
Solid option for a beautiful view in Waikiki paired with perfectly fine food and fun cocktails.
The cocktails are fun fresh and fruity, and not all of them are terribly sweet which I really appreciated. Service was ok, they get very busy and it can be chaotic, but the staff are all really nice. It's tough to get a seat at the bar so plan on a table most likely.
Food wise, the burger was fine. Loved the passion fruit cheesecake. The poke bowl was pretty good but probably I would stick to snacks and drinks here going forward. The menu could use a refresh in my opinion. Some of the bigger entrees seem like an odd fit. The order of fries is enormous. They would do well with some smaller snack/small plate options like a crudite, wings, nachos, etc. Or lean into the local ingredients and provide some options in smaller portions.
Overall worth a stop if you're on the beach and want a nicer option to relax.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
