Once printing press is researched, and one civ has meeted all the others, the world congress will take place. Its every 30 turns, but that shortens in later era's. two civs (the host and the one with the most delegates) can propose resolutions. Like sponsoring culture (more culture GP, but less engineers and scientists), embargoes, etc...So it makes the diplomacy more important. Although i have to figure out how the delegates work. I know the forbidden palace gives two

Now in my second try, i have pissed of arabia hugely with my proposals, cause they want world religion. And meanwhile indonesia and siam are annoyd because i spread my religion to them.

    Got Civ 4 for free.

Due to an error on Valve, they had BNW for 75%, as a mistake.

They apologize and for people who preorder or bought it early, will get Civ 4 for free.

But of course, stupid dickheads still want and moan on how they feel cheated.

I'd be one of those stupid dickheads were that to happen to me (as it could have, I was on the verge of pre-ordering the game). It's not like you're going to play Civ IV for long.

The idea is actually quite good. for the moment im in the balance with arabia: trying to blck their proposals while enforcing mine. First they wanted islam as world religion, then they wanted to ban sugar (which i agreed), now they wantt to embargo all CS, which is offcours quite bad for me since i own the most.
It adds a lot of diplomatic play earlier in the game, although the civs still act sometimes shizofrenic. Sometimes an explanation why they vote a particular way would be nice. Like i proposed natural heritgal sites (to not offend anyone), since i had a natural wonder in my borders. yet other civs who would have benefitted from it voted no

I figured it was an error. I managed to find a friend who was interested who hadn't pre-ordered and tell him about it, so he got the discount. Also explains the random Civ IV copy I now have...

Played a Venetian game as my first BNW game on an Archipeligo map (Prince). Trade routes seem fairly overpowered to me. Granted I get twice as many as anyone else, but I was raking in huge amounts of gold per turn the entire game because of them. I was getting so much gold that all I ever did with Venice (the only city I ever had control over, since all my other cities were puppets) was build wonders and archaeologists (the latter can't be bought with gold), since I was able to simply buy any building upgrades or units I needed. I've never been rich enough to do it that drastically before. The puppets thing wasn't even that bad when I could use my massive wealth to force the construction of important buildings (such as factories and science buildings) in all my puppets, even though I couldn't control them directly.

Won on turn 340 with a cultural victory. I had everyone but the Mayans at influential, who then denounced me and stopped my open borders, meaning my plan of spamming musicians in their lands wasn't going to cut it. Instead of waiting the 50 turns it would've taken to convert them conventionally, I simply took a massive fleet of battleships against them. I don't know what was up with the AI, but their best unit I saw was a single rifleman who was bordering a city on a 2-tile island, who got blown to bits. Other than that they simply had crossbowman and swordsman..... heck even a warrior. I think the AI is just terrible on Archipelago.

Still, most of the new features are great. Trade routes are cool, the new congress system is great, ideologies are much better and the whole method of achieving a culture victory is a lot more entertaining than before.

yep, just like trade routes and ideologies.

Just finished my first brazil game on prince, continents. By blocking a siam settler i could have 2/3 of the continent for myself, with big cities.

    So what ive learned:
-dont connect your cities too soon or you will go in the red.
-dont dig too much after artefacts, cause they are petty stuff. Some are good, but if you do it too much, you'll run out of exhibition space. this makes the explorers tree finisher redundant. Because i had so little place to store great works, i couldnt really get into the swaping stuff. Would be nice if you could sell artefacts though
-AI seems to be calmed. Most major wars took place way later in the game. Shaka had a bunch of units, but mainly seems to use them at CS.
-trade routes mainly braked even in non-monetary effects (science and religion)
    - World congress is intereisting, although like said, motivation for the decisions would be nice.
-Cant really say anything on Tourism. Because i was Brazil, i had no negative effects from it (won culture victory), but no civ switched their ideology. there was one zulu city that became arabian

ow yes, and endgame turns took longer than i remembered on a standard map

Man, Brazil's war theme is one of the best war theme in Civ V.

So, what was your favorite music from BNW?

Hmm, I downloaded BNW but haven't played it yet. I've been continuing my previous russian campaign where i've reached the industrial era on Prince Difficulty.

I am surrounded by two nations: one strong, and a weaker nation. Most nations in the map (6 or 7 out of 9) either hate me or distrust me lol. I can't leave my current game unfinished, especially when i've built up a considerable army and a strong economy; so i'll play BNW after i finish up my russian campaign.

It's interesting. I have both expansions.

Playing at Prince the AI seems to be less aggressive towards me (mainly playing against the new factions) but at the start of each game I've played there are a lot of barbarians to keep me busy.

In my last game as the Zulus I tried to get the world congress to put a trade embargo on the Moroccans (with whom I was at war) but they made a counter proposal to have a trade embargo against me which was accepted. So, I can only trade with the city-states (which are all on islands). While this may not be as profitable as trading with other countries it's OK - it means my standing with the city states is quite high which improves the number of delegates to the world congress (I still could not get the trade embargo lifted).
