i think that if it is on a burger bun it is within the larger category of "burgers" even if the commonly used name for it in a region does not actually include the word burger.

An analysis of the Dark Lord through their relationship with Chosen

I see a lot of people say that Dark shouldn't be brought back in Season 3, because them getting a redemption arc would be hard to take seriously or be straight-up out of character. Unlike Purple, King, Victim, and Chosen, they don't have any underlying reason for their evil - no revenge plan, no person they're trying to win the approval of, they're just a murderous supervillain because it's fun.

I disagree. First of all, since when is not having an underlying reason for evil a reason that a character can't be redeemed? Alan didn't have a reason to torment Victim, but he's still considered a good guy because he realized his creations are truly alive and started empathizing with them and treating them better. Chosen didn't have a reason to rampage across the internet for so long, but he's still considered a good guy because he had a change of heart and tried to clean up the mess left behind by his friendship with Dark. So why is Dark different?

As a quick disclaimer: I'm not going to try and justify anything Dark has ever done in this. They're an unrepentant monster who does definitely enjoy causing chaos, destruction, pain, and death. The only thing I'm arguing is that they're more complex than the pure-evil-for-the-fun-of-it supervillain that the fandom tends to paint them as.

reflection

Something I haven’t said here before, but when I was younger, like maybe idk, 8? I remember Samus being called β€œhe” and a man in the early days when all we had was Metroid.

When Super Metroid came out, all of the guides suddenly said β€œshe”. Of course, if people were good at the original, they would see Samus as she really was - but her being originally referred as he/him, and a man, in some guides and a comic, set her on the path we know today as a trans icon, even if unintentionally.

As a child, I remember reading she/her, after having read he/him and being amazed that a man could become a woman. I didn’t understand the fullness of that emotion back then other than an elated curiosity that I now know meant I was a trans woman.

I love this comic. It reminds me of Madeline in Celeste, fighting her own shadow, her anxiety and depression, and most likely, also her dysphoria. It’s beautiful, and representative, which, isn’t surprising, as the creator is herself, trans.

I played that game non-stop in 2018 before I understood I was trans and I felt this rush as I climbed to the summit, overcoming my own struggles and pain and inner turmoil, only to come out a year later myself.

This brings me back to this comic. I feel her pain, the cutscenes of loss and grief, the times you get to places just too late, all while struggling with the same inner turmoil Madeline faced. β€œCan I do this? Am I fake? What if I’m not enough?” Each thought while facing insurmountable odds, and her greatest enemy, her own self doubt, depression, anxiety…and maybe even dysphoria.

I know Samus isn’t canon trans. And you can hate me for this and hate trans women for clinging to the things that barely represent us because we are so disregarded and hated for doing nothing more than saying β€œfuck you” to gender expectations and the patriarchy, and instead being ourselves, in our beautiful, liberated autonomy.

We carry these same questions. β€œCan I do it? Am I fake? What if I’m not enough?” While facing insurmountable odds. I feel this comic deeply, and a kinship between her, and Madeline, and trans women everywhere.

If you ask these questions of yourself, trans or not, and feel insurmountable odds against you, know that you can do it. You are not fake unless you’re lying - and being yourself is never lying regardless of what fascists and bigots tell you. And you are more than enough.

And most importantly, you are not alone. Your trans siblings are everywhere and while some may suck, have internalized transphobia and bigotry, many many many more do not. We are everywhere.

au where pit’s a trans girl who hasn’t figured it out yet and then the mirror of truth speedruns dp’s transition. and nothing else changes.

having a morning. not in a good or bad way, really, just... it's all washing over me, I suppose is the best way I can think to put it.
