Hello, Friend!

@thepatchycat / thepatchycat.tumblr.com

If you’re here to confirm the anon thing from the bug post—yes that was me!
I mostly just drop fanart here once in a blue moon before disappearing back into the void, but feel free to say hi!

Blog Info

Content: This blog consists mostly of fandom stuff I’ve drawn or written; however, I’m rather slow and low-energy, so I may go weeks or months without posting anything.  Everything here will likely be gen and SFW, and image descriptions can be found in the alt text for my art.  Written works are posted at my AO3, though I’ll post fic links here as well. Drabbles or scraps may only be posted here.

Tagging: I tag posts with their respective fandoms, characters, and ships (if applicable; I’m not much of a shipper), as well as my own ramblings.  While there might not be much of it here, I’ll also try to tag with content warnings for things such as blood or gore with “cw” preceding the warning.  Art tag is #Patchy Doodles, writing tag is #Patchy Writes, and general talk tag is #Patchy Babbles.  If there’s anything specific you would like tagged, please let me know and I’ll do my best to accommodate!

Commissions/Requests: I don’t take these, sorry!  Maybe someday when I have a better creative work ethic, but not now. Currently doing a little expression/color palette challenge thing, so feel free to submit a request.

Etiquette: Should go without saying, but don’t repost my stuff (if you want to share on other social media sites, ask for permission first and link/credit back here).  Reblogs and likes and comments are always appreciated, though if you simply come and observe and then leave like a ship passing in the night that’s totally fine.  I also don’t mind how people tag things in reblogs (for example, I’m not gonna come after anyone for tagging stuff as ship when I didn’t); however, be warned that if you leave nice comments or reactions in the tags it will make me smile! Just be considerate and we’ll get along fine.

Okay see now i'm extra curious how this anon bug is working (foynd you from the post :3)

Sorry if this is annoying, but damn tumbler screwd up big time

Haha no worries! I’m admittedly finding this entertaining. I’m sure it’ll get fixed eventually.

It seems to be a problem that shows up when opening the ask inbox on mobile (doesn’t happen on desktop, so far as I’ve seen). Similar to the previous anon, you received my boop paw badge!

And then you got my pfp as a small secondary icon when I scrolled down and back up, but I forgot to screenshot that before starting this answer draft.

I don’t work with coding much except for some extremely basic stats stuff in the RStudio program, so I couldn’t explain why it does this or how it happens, but my current hypothesis is that the secondary icon is supposed to be of the recipient blog, mostly because that’s the only thing I can think of as having a functional use (namely helping to visually differentiate which blog an ask has been sent to). Perhaps we’ll find out in time~

As a literal software engineer, I have no idea why this is happening either! Your hypothesis sounds reasonable, but diagnosing root cause would require access to the codebase. Well. Probably. Maybe.

We can, of course, observe behavior as you are doing; testing to see what reproduces the problem is one of my first go-tos for learning more about a bug, even with access to source code. If you're sufficiently motivated (or bored), you might also be able to glean clues or further support for your theory by peeking at the HTML via the browser's web inspector the next time this happens. (On Mac, Safari has a "Develop" option next to Bookmarks. Other browsers on other OSes should have equivalent options in their menus somewhere.) I am not sufficiently motivated. I actually meant to do other things tonight. Gonna set down my social media machine and do them >w>

but you seem to be having fun digging into this, so, if you're curious...

Alas, I’ve got other things to do as well xD And the thing about this bug is that it’s on the mobile app, not browser as far as I’m aware. I don’t know of a diagnostic/developer tool that would work on the phone app.

I’m going to hazard a guess that the one below is you :P I’ll leave it in my inbox for now in case there’s a way to do something later, but it also had my badge show up. But for whatever it’s worth, when accessing the ask through notifications (as opposed to opening my account’s entire inbox), only this ask shows up and there’s not room to scroll, so my pfp didn’t show up as a secondary icon. So far, I haven’t had any asks be given secondary icons other than mine.

hello, i found your blog via the inbox bug post and i just wanna say, your layout is Very Cutesies. hope youre having a good Day <3

Aw, thank you! I hope you’re having a good day too!

Fun fact: my inbox first gave you my badge and no secondary icon:

And then when I scrolled down and back up it gave you my icon as well:

I have not sent myself any asks, so I can only speculate on how that happened. Maybe by stealing from private replies? Anyway hi you are Me now.

Wanted to say, thanks for helping test out the issue with anons in the askbox. I apologize in advance if I got the wrong person.

Aw, happy to help! @phantomrose96 did an awesome job realizing and explaining the issue. I just figured my status as a random follower/user put me in a good position to be a test anon for additional data, haha.
