2025 Cadillac XT4 Review
Overview
Last year's interior update brought the Cadillac XT4 compact SUV into modernity with a massive 33-inch dash display that incorporates the infotainment and instrument panel into one curved screen. It's a trend that's becoming more popular in luxury vehicles and aligns the XT4 with other fresh Cadillac models, including the electric Lyriq and CT5 sport sedan. The 9K display is ultra-high resolution and offers rich colors to support its Google-based operating system.
Two trims, Luxury Premium and Sport, are available for the 2025 XT4, both using a turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder good for 235 horsepower. The engine is backed by a nine-speed paddle-shifted automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is optional on both trims. The engine is more than adequate but we find that the nine-speed's response isn't always as quick as we'd like, especially when using the paddles.
Seating is roomy up front with comfortable space around the driver and passenger. And despite class-leading rear legroom, we don't love the XT4's back seats, which are hard and with oddly vertical seatbacks.
Safety and driver-assist features are abundant, however. The addition of the Active Safety package as standard equipment brings adaptive cruise control into every XT4. Other available feature highlights include: automated emergency braking, rear parking assist, safety-alert seat, and a surround-view camera.
Rivals in this segment include the BMW X1, Lincoln Corsair, and Lexus UX. All are good options, so it comes down to personal preference.
Abundant standard features, including adaptive cruise control. Easy-to-use infotainment system. Thoroughly modern interior design.
Some primary controls are slow to respond. Only two available trims and one powertrain offering.
Cadillac has successfully updated an aging design in the XT4, which debuted in 2019. A makeover of the interior and exterior last year, including meaningful changes such as a 33-inch screen, give it a modern feel. And this year it gets more standard safety and driver-assist features to keep it fresh.
What's New for 2025
Trims and Pricing
Pricing for the 2025 Cadillac XT4 hasn't been disclosed, but we know it will be available in two trim levels: Premium Luxury and Sport. Both come standard with front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is available across the lineup for an additional cost. The Premium Luxury trim is the popular model, and we think it's the best overall value. We'll explain why.
Premium Luxury
The entry-level front-wheel-drive Premium Luxury ($41,990 including destination fee) has a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, nine-speed automatic transmission, 18-inch wheels, a hands-free power liftgate, illuminated door handles, and rain-sensing automatic wipers. Inside, the cabin has ambient lighting, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, good-looking synthetic leather upholstery, an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat with memory settings, and a six-way power-adjustable front passenger's seat. Additional equipment includes automatic dual-zone climate control, a 33-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a seven-speaker audio system, Wi-Fi connectivity, and second-row charging ports. Automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, forward-collision alert, rear park assist, and a seating alert are valuable safety features, plus the Active Safety package is added to the standard equipment list this year. It includes a suite of advanced driver aids as follows: adaptive cruise control, automatic speed-limit assist, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, a surround-view camera, rear pedestrian alert, side bicyclist alert, traffic-sign recognition, enhanced automatic emergency braking, reverse automatic braking, and intersection automatic emergency braking.
With available options such as a head-up display, the Premium Luxury trim delivers the equipment level of larger, more expensive luxury crossovers. Because of this, we think it is the right choice for most buyers.
Sport
The Sport ($42,790) has a sleek performance look with less chrome trim. It is equipped with a distinctive grille, black roof rails, body-color door handles, gloss-black window trim, a lower fascia accent, distinctive 18-inch wheels, and front cornering lights. Inside, alloy pedals are accompanied by four-way power-adjustable lumbar support and power-adjustable front seatback bolsters. The sportiest aspects of the Sport are on the options list: an active sport suspension and 20-inch wheels.
Engine and Performance
The 2025 Cadillac XT4 is powered by a 235-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine teamed with a nine-speed automatic transmission. It delivers its power and torque with almost no hint of turbo lag. Power delivery through the conventional automatic transmission is smooth, and the XT4 never seems breathless. Ride quality in the versions with the conventional suspension is what you'd expect, skewed toward comfort. The Sport version with the active suspension is more rewarding for those seeking a more involving experience, yet it remains comfortable when the pace isn't as frenetic. Overall, the XT4 delivers an excellent luxury experience with a balance of power and comfort.
Comparatively, the BMW X1 delivers more responsive handling and similar acceleration. The Lexus UX offers a pleasant ride but with less power.
Fuel Economy
The Environmental Protection Agency has not yet released ratings for the 2025 Cadillac XT4, but the front-wheel-drive 2024 Cadillac XT4 is rated at 24 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. Fuel economy for XT4s with all-wheel drive dips to 23/28 mpg city/highway.
The all-wheel-drive BMW X1 is rated at 25/34 mpg city/highway. The front-wheel-drive Lincoln Corsair delivers 22/30 mpg city/highway. For maximum fuel economy in the segment, the front-wheel-drive Lexus UX 250h hybrid is rated at 43/41 mpg.
Interior
The Cadillac XT4 is the smallest SUV in the brand's lineup, but it is longer than its close competitors and has a well-designed interior. Front seats are comfortable and supportive even on long drives, where the available power lumbar support is especially appreciated. Seating is capped at five passengers, but four will be more comfortable. Material and fit-and-finish are top-notch. Each of the trim levels gets its own distinctive look.
The cabin is quiet except when much is asked of the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. Cargo space exceeds the Lexus UX, but doesn't quite match the space in the BMW X1 or Lincoln Corsair. Still, with 22.5 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 48.9 cubic feet behind the front seats, the Cadillac won't disappoint.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The 2025 Cadillac XT4's standard infotainment system includes a 33-inch curved display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, 5G Wi-Fi connectivity, personalized profiles for different drivers, and a seven-speaker audio system. Those seeking even more tech can add navigation, wireless smartphone charging, and a premium 14-speaker AKG Studio audio system.
The Lincoln Corsair has a 13.2-inch dash-mounted touchscreen running the Lincoln/Ford Sync 4 system. The BMW X1 gets a 10.7-inch screen. The Lexus UX has a standard 8-inch unit or an optional 12.3-inch touchscreen display.
Safety
The 2025 Cadillac XT4 has not been rated, but the very similar 2024 XT4 received a top rating of five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in side-crash testing, and four stars in the Rollover category.. The 2024 XT4 has only been evaluated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in two crash-test categories, where it earned top Good ratings.
The XT4's standard safety features include automatic emergency braking, forward-collision alert, front pedestrian braking, rear park assist, and a safety alert seat. Included in the now standard Active Safety package are: automatic speed-limit assist, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, a surround-view camera, rear pedestrian alert, side bicyclist alert, traffic-sign recognition, enhanced automatic emergency braking, reverse automatic braking, and intersection automatic emergency braking. Speed limit assist and traffic sign recognition are also included for 2025.
Cadillac XT4 vs. the Competition
The 2025 Cadillac XT4 offers a competitive combination of power, space, tech, and style. Its expressive exterior design is matched by a cushy interior with plenty of luxury touches. One of the XT4's biggest pluses is its easy-to-use infotainment system which is managed using the massive 33-inch touchscreen. Among its competitors, the Lincoln Corsair offers a wider range of engine choices, including a hybrid option. The BMW X1 not only provides the expected performance but also a surprising amount of interior space. The Lexus UX offers a nicely finished cabin and a hybrid option, but its cargo capacity is limited.

The Starting Market Average is a proprietary mathematical calculation based on actual recent transactions. It provides a statistically accurate understanding of what other buyers are paying for the least expensive configuration of this vehicle. Adjustments to the calculation beyond make, model, and trim are normalized based on detailed, anonymized transaction information. This accounts for the fact that most or all recently-sold vehicles included different option combinations. The data underlying the Starting Market Average calculation are filtered for extreme outliers and subjected to a weighted averaging process that considers factors such as the recency of transactions and the timing of data lags. In certain instances, the calculated result is adjusted to take account of abrupt changes in the market that may not yet be fully reflected by recent transaction prices. In all cases where the Starting Market Average is shown there is sufficient sample size and transaction detail to be statistically reliable.
